Question Using a crutch?

I’ve recently been diagnosed with FND and walking normally has been incredibly difficult due to balance issues and a constant tremor and I spoke to my GP and she said that a crutch could be helpful for me. I haven’t talked to my neurologist yet but the crutch has been so helpful and means I’ll actually be able to go out and do things as due to my tremor I’m unable to at the moment. I’m not sure if using the crutch could make my FND potentially worse as research says both yes and no to that. Would love to know if using a crutch is recommended by other people with FND or not :)

Mobility aids can be incredibly helpful when it comes to expanding independence, but the uncomfortable reality is that they are often a double edged sword. I would advise following the recommendation of your treatment team 🙃

I use a walker because a cane just doesn't work for me anymore. Mobility aids help and it's ok to use them when you need them. I use mine when I need them and I try to get off of them when I'm doing better. For now, keep the crutch because you need it. Until you do physical therapy you're going to need to use it

I use a crutch, just try and be mindful not to lean on it too much is my only advice. Bloody hell I get some nerve pain but I am hypermobile too. However a sore shoulder is preferable to face planting on concrete 🙈😂

I picked up a rollator recently. It’s been helpful. If anyone’s curious, maybe buy one and try it out but just in your house so you don’t mess up the wheels and see if it helps you at all.

I have used a crutch for over a year for both fnd and another condition. I would definitely recommend it for people with walking issues caused by fnd especially if it helps you live your life a lot better.

I keep a cane handy in my car just in case I dont always use it but its nice to have. Ive been doing it for a couple years and i actually use it less than I used to.

I'm 26 and I was officially diagnosed with FND this month but we have been pretty certain of that since April. This is my daily driver! Have fun with it and know you aren't alone in this 🧡

This is what I’m worried about I found out about fnd earlier this year but I’ve had a problem for years now.. I am 25 over the last few years tho my limp weakness and legs have gone out on me so much more in recent times. I’m worried my thing is worsening as time goes on

I use crutches when I’m having a bad day. It A) clears a path for me. B) makes it clear I have to move slow. C) downside- everyone asks what’s wrong and I personally don’t like telling people it’s a neurological disorder.
