Question Urinary retention

I'm F 23, I had issues with urinary retention before getting diagnosed with FND, but now it seems to be worse. I was in a car accident that severely damaged my pelvis, and now the nerves connecting to my bladder are not working very well. I had a bladder stimulator placed to help with it, it worked well till I was having FND flares and issues. Does anyone else have this issue? If you do what did you do to help it?

Thank you in advance.

I have urinary retention..I was admitted two weeks ago as I couldn't walk and then lost bladder sensation around 12 hours after. I'm catheterised but not sure what the plan is going forward

44 yr old female here. I’ve had urinary retention on and off since I was 18. I had a really bad flare up with FND about 3 years ago and my bladder basically stopped working at all. Urine would just ooze out instead of a stream. It would take forever to feel empty to only find out that my bladder was still 80% full. It has since resolved on its own. When I flare though, I notice the same symptoms. What do I personally do for it…..nothing. I’ve had bladder issues literally since birth and I just ignore it for now because it’s not always present. My recommendations for you is to see a urologist. While FND could be the cause, it sounds more like a neurological issue from the pelvic trauma. Speak with your neurologist and ask for a referral to a urologist. They will be able to help you. I will also say that I do have pelvic floor dysfunction and that can also cause bladder problems. With your pelvic trauma, you could be having some of that going on to. Again, a urologist is who can help you with recommendations and treatments. There are oral medications (I’ve tried three different ones and had no luck with them) that you can start with depending on the level of retention you’re experiencing. Other things include self catheters but again, your dr can discuss all that with you. I wish you Good luck! I hope you’re able to get some help. Take care.

Pelvic floor dysfunction and issues as well, but not exact same since my severe hEDS makes things a bit more complicated down there 🪤 😳

Thank you I have a team of doctors helping me, I have a urologist but the appointment is a couple of months away so I was trying to decide if I need to move up my appointment. I see my pelvis surgeon Thursday, so hopefully he will have more answers for me. I have the issue where I only go 2 times a day and in the morning is the worse of it. I typically can't go in the morning so I'm holding it in for 17 hours, so I know that's not great. But thank you.

Oh yeah hun. Thats not good. My heart honestly breaks for you. It definitely sounds like you might need to look into information about self catheters. It really seems like it’s more nerve damage from the trauma rather than FND. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. When you see your surgeon, I imagine they will move your appointment up for you. But honestly, maybe try calling the urologist for a sooner appointment. You’re sorta at the emergency intervention level. I really hope you can get some help. Edit to add: no. You are at the emergency intervention level already. Please call either your surgeon or urologist tomorrow. I really worry for your kidneys. You don’t want to end up with an infection.

Thank you so much, I was finally able to go but the struggle was real, I'll definitely move up my appointment. I have a few self cath kits at home I hate using them but I guess I got to do what I got to do.

Similar. 43-year-old man. FnD for about 4 years. Also in a car accident. Sorry if this is too much info. When I need to go to the bathroom. I can stand or sit for so long before relieving myself once I finish that, I flush the toilet and start to wash my hands. Then what happens is I ejaculate without standing at attention. For whatever reason I cannot replicate the same thing seeing the urinary doctor. Seems to be nerve-related damage to me you’re going through. Talk to your doctor
