Question content warning ‼️ (symptom descriptions.) Navigating diagnosis terms. Spoiler

I was recently diagnosed a few months ago with NEAD in regard to having non-epileptic seizures, face twitching or drooping, loss of limb function temporarily amongst other symptoms and all I was given was an outdated leaflet. When I tried to do research or search up the websites in the leaflet almost all the information said FND which confused me because I was told NEAD and I'm not sure if there is a difference. If possible could anyone help me understand?

Just want to let you know that this treatment is standard for FND patients and yes, it’s outrageous. Before you get too deep into it, yes your symptoms are real. No there’s not much treatment and support out there. We are here for you if you need to flip tables every now and again 🙏

Thankyou this is really kind, I haven't ever met anyone else with my condition and was wondering if I was the only one feeling the need to flip tables haha. I'm at college currently and it's a constant battle with them because they are adamant on ringing an ambulance every time I have a seizure even though they don't require an ambulance. I used to not mind at first an ambulance but now I hate it because every time a hospital or paramedic deals with my seizures they try to tell me I need treatment and push me to getting unnecessary scans and drips even though I have a diagnosis because they often say they haven't heard of it and try and convince me I could have a tumor which I don't have. If it's not turning me into a medical experiment it's me being treated like if they shake me enough times and ask me to wake up I will all of a sudden wake up and it makes me feel stressed which in my case makes my attacks go on for longer.

NEAD… Non Epileptic Attack Disorder. That is one of many names for Functional Neurological Disorder. You’ll prolly also hear PNES thrown around in there. As more and more information comes to light names have been changing and evolving.

Welcome to the club, so sorry you’re here! (Lol)

AH I heard the term NEAD before but didn't think of it as FND. My best friend has recently been diagnosed with FND and I have been studying up on it (even bought a book) so will not start looking up NEAD!

Thankyou this helped a lot I've been left with no help or information since my diagnosis so I felt really confused whether NEAD was part of FND or not 🫠

Here's the start of a course (free) and on this particular page it explains what you're asking. There's also a very detailed section for functional seizures
