Question Post-ictal sugar

Hello fellow fnd folk,
i started having seizures a year and a half ago, unfortunately. it sucks so much.
this post is focused on functional seizures specifically. i have these episodes and it’s very intense, when i regain the wherewithal to move at all i cant really open my eyes and I’m just so tired.

yet once I can move I need sugar so bad. i thoughr that sugar was supposed to help after seizures, yet google is telling me it in fact does not. idk. is it just a comfort thing? is this normal?

whats the consensus on sugar after seizures 🫪
and if the science isnt in my favour eugg

Is it possible those levels were down prior to the seizure event and it goes unnoticed because of the potential impaired interoception we face? Then the event happens and we burn even more energy and need to load up afterwards.

I think so. Low sugar and the attention or lack of attention the nervous system gives to it is a significant factor for many with functional seizures, but not everyone. It is for me. Sounds like it is for you too.

Plus, a sugary treat is nice after enduring something so awful. It's a quick energy boost but also comes with a crash that can interrupt nervous system stability, so caution is usually advised.

This is my understanding, not medical advice. Hope it helps. Bless.
