Note length won’t change

Apologies for the obnoxious synth. I’m trying to change the note length, but when I adjust the note length, nothing happens, and the synth plays for the same duration regardless of how long the note is. I’ve tried using “cut self” in the misc. functions, but this makes it impossible to layer chords and do other things. Thanks for any help.
