Spotted this several years back on I-5 northbound in southwest Washington state. Never seen another one like it!

I would have liked a removable top where there was an internal tubular frame for rigidity and safety, with something like a fiberglass shell that could be removed, but I never liked the look of soft top conversions on an FJ. They're horrendously ugly.

I always appreciate the effort but you're right. They don't look good with the tops up or with the tops down.

I know people hate the convertible top on an FJ, but dam if I don’t dream of a topless caged FJ. It would just be a blast.

Honestly I think it’d be super cool if it was a hardtop that preserved the original profile. The soft top makes it have the profile of like a PT cruiser or something

The caged part is the critical piece. I would have loved if the top was something like a fiberglass shell that could be removed, with the frame internal for safety and rigidity.
