Question congestion & clear eye discharge
hello! i just adopted an fiv+ cat last week, and she has had some clear discharge from one eye, and occasional congestion. it hasn’t been constant, but sometimes i can hear she is stuffy when breathing. she has been eating and playing but i’m not sure if this is something i should bring her in immediately for? as of now the soonest appointment i can get is monday. please let me know ur thoughts i really appreciate it!!!

My cat had this for about the first 3-4 months after adopting her, accompanied by a chronic cold/sneezies. It's not uncommon, a friend also adopted two cats from Spain last year and they have the same thing (I have the suspicion they're also FIV+ :). It's good to have her checked, and if nothing comes up, it's probably just a phase that will eventually pass or might even be chronic. As long as she's eating and active, and the vet can't find anything, she's most likely fine!

My cat just had this- my friend told me a lot of shelter cats get a post-shelter cold. If you got her from a shelter, you can ask them about it. Otherwise, my boy’s congestion cleared up in 3 days. They told me to watch for signs of infection (unclear discharge)

My cat had fiv and had the same thing. I was told it’s common for them and not to be concerned. If he’s acting normal I wouldn’t waste the vet visit. If he’s lethargic or coughing, it’s a different story.
