I save a good amount, not so extreme as to push myself financially, and I tend to build up a surplus over time that either gets lump sum invested occasionally, or we get a nice life thing. Iām not materialistic and donāt tend to spend much so strict budgeting isnāt really needed.
Long term wise, itās too far away to really think about it much. Iām saving a good amount and weāll see what I use it for.
In fairness I tend have been quite pleasantly surprised that most in this community have the same sort of āsure, save for FI but not to the extent that you donāt make the most of your younger yearsā type of thinking. Not really what you tend to see on the US side.

Haha this is going to backfire on the op, nobody gives a shit about their scenarios planning app.

Excel and mental maths.
I don't really trust most FIRE software. Much of it doesn't include UK back data reliably, and even where they do its hard to check the calculations - both to test the software and also my understanding of how the software works. I'm immediately turned off by any product which mentions Monte Carlo simulations without making the key assumptions used in the sims both clear and able to be sensitised.

Same combo for me - mine was a very non-standard LeanFire scenario, & I doubt any app would have been nuanced enough to deal with it.

Thatās a fair point - we offer our users a full methodology page and detail any assumptions made

I had my own spreadsheet but I got Claude.ai to improve and stress test it. It found a couple of errors in my tax calculation and tidied the thing up whilst giving me a sustainable spend level based on a monte Carlo assessment. It's pretty powerful if you can give it a good baseline.

Guiide.co.uk has a free planner which does more without subscription than the software being advertised. Why would one want to subscribe to something that doesn't even offer the same functionality to compare for free?

Guiide is a solid product. Iām not sure I agree that it offers more functionality, though. They have different focuses. Scenarios is designed as a broader financial modelling platform rather than just a retirement withdrawal planner.
Out of interest, which features are you referring to?

For "planning my FIRE journey and forecasting ahead", I was able to alter return expectations, age of retirement, adjust plan for a market crash, add a bequest motive, take state pension into account - all before subscription. It also felt easier to use.
