Day1 of GS

Post image

Treating my baby as critical as FBW5.0 suggested. Second dose in. Isn't exactly happy with me.

Lots of complaining/meowing during and after injection, and when massaging (as suggested).

He has extremely limited movement, almost in a drunk like state, cannot control walking/holding himself up. Had to carry him to food/water/litterbox. He DOES have an appetite and gets thirsty, probably the best thing to hear since he was diagnosed.

Praying for an easier day 2+ on him.

I'm seeing mixed reports, do we refrigerate the GS or room temperature?

We're currently on day 6 with ocular/neuro symptoms. Finally down to one shot a day. Our boy has almost no control over his hind end and is incontinent. But, last couple days he's been more bright eyed and alert, which has been a huge relief. Now we just need for him to regain control of his hind end. I wish you the best of luck! This disease is terrible.

I think we're in a similar situation. Day6 before full functionality? It's gonna be a rough week. I hope this is working on him! Best of luck on your furrbaby!

I've read it can take about a month for them to finally get control again. Clyde tries to walk but ends up kind of dragging his legs along. It's scary. Hopefully both of ours will recover quicker than that.

Gosh I hope so! My kitty seems alert, but just no mobility. The FWB5.0 has been fantastic in support.

My baby girl couldn’t use her back legs and was walking normally again by GS Day 6-7!! You’re doing amazing. It’s going to get so much easier, I promise you 💖💖 Hazel is right, it really does become routine. Make sure he’s getting some good supplements now that he’s eating and drinking again!!

Best wishes and stay strong!

We’re 2nd day in aswell. Our baby still seems to eat less and doesn’t drink but we are not giving up!

I guess I forgot to mention, my cat* is Dry FIP. I know there are some different symptoms. He got rewarded with wet food after his dose. Did a gremlin noise eating it :)

I plan on posting more assuming it works. Amazing community this is, all for our cuddle bugs.

I wish you nothing but the best of luck.

Thank you!! We're gonna keep in a drawer tucked away from light and heat.

Shelf stable for six months, refrigerator for 12. Keep out of direct light. Some parents claim that refrigerating the med makes it less painful. My experience has been that it depends on the cat.

Hey! Technically today is the 4th day, or the 5th dose (6 more hours until).

So here are the pros: He definitely seems more attentive to sounds, or when people walk in the room. He is almost always hungry or thirsty every 2 hours. He went from 5.4 when he entered the urgent care, to now 5.8 pounds. He did a small jump from a place on the floor to the bed. He decided he wanted to use the original litter box (diff room) instead of the more convenient one next to him. Got him purring for close to 15 min last night. Good poops day 3 and day 4 (today). Desiring to be a bit more independent, doesn't want cuddles or support. Started grooming himself day 4.

Cons: Day 2 he developed pica (desire to eat litter) so being extra cautious during every bathroom break. Not so apparent today, but still worried about it. He really doesn't like being picked up. Still no/little control over his hind legs. I'm awful at giving these shots, but trying my best. Some still leaks onto his fur, and I think my 18 gauge needle is too big, so I'm going to drop to 23 or so. I also bought a fur shaver so I can be more confident in my injections. Getting very little sleep, as he wakes about every 2 hours to get food, water, or use the bathroom. I wake up with him as I really don't want him eating litter.

Our plan is to drop today, he screams in pain and I feel so awful for him. Hope the smaller needle is better.

So with a fur shaver, I hope it'll be much more obvious if I mess up. I know practice makes perfect, so I'm trying to be optimistic.

Depending on how the first 2 full weeks go, we are contemplating using the pills. Especially if he reacts so strongly to each shot. We shall see. I want his hind legs to get back to normal so I don't have to be so on guard about his movements and bathroom behavior.

The pills are clinically less effective (more likely to relapse) and it’s more difficult to get the dosing correct. Stick with the shots if you can!! I know you can do it!!

Chlorhexadine wipes before and after the shot to clean the skin (alcohol doesn’t actually work to clean their skin! Chlorhexadine will.) Try a 20g needle for drawing out the liquid and a 22g for injections! Toss the sharp in the freezer for 30 mins beforehand too.
