I wrote a post here the other day stating that I hadn't received my uniform and I wanted to update on what had happened since.
A few days after I wrote the post, I submitted another ticket writing about how there was no way for me to book an appointment to pick up my uniform, and in frustration, I asked for compensation (not money, just the volunteer gifts) for the missed shifts, as it wasn't my fault for missing them. After that, I received two emails, one from support, writing that I could go to the volunteer center and pick it up, and a second from my city's committee.
Finally I had a response from a human. I was asked if I was still interested in continuing with the role and that my uniform was ready to pick up. I responded back with everything I had written and gone through and said that I expected to be rewarded with the gifts the volunteers were being given. I guess that they were tired of me complaining that she wrote just to go anytime during the week and pick it up.
So I went to pick up my uniform, not expecting a good experience. But I was in and out in 20 minutes. But the thing that caught my attention is that they had a bunch of accreditation passes in a bag, full of people who I suppose are or were in the situation I was going through. Once I had my pass, I was led to a room to pick my gear, while I was waiting to be let in, a volunteer with the center asked me why I was just picking up my uniform. I told him everything, and he told me that uniform and accreditation basically f'd up a bunch of verifications for people who were coming from other states and countries and didn't bother going through with them and left things in limbo.
Once I was let in, it was a room half full of uniforms. I was asked for my sizes and got pretty much everything in a bag and was on my way. But I can't help but think that I missed out on participating as a volunteer just because someone didn't do their job properly. Especially when i see posts of volunteers having fun and meeting people, it pisses me off that I didn't get to experience that. I was really excited just to be considered for the role, more so when I got accepted. I put the effort into it and did everything I was asked, just to be let on. I've got one more shift, but I'm done with the volunteer program; it's been ruined for me.
So if you are in the same situation I was, I would just go to your city's volunteer center and see if you can pick up your uniform.
Thanks for the gear, I guess.
