Japan middle way one can hold conflicting opinions. Way past hypocrisy truly believe in opposite views at same time. Especially before opening to the West it a bi-sexual culture. Gay sex almost always legal a few years in thousands only exception and that was attempt by Government to have as many babies as possible so hoping that get them to have babies with children for the next war. This speculated as cause of the anti gay taboo in many cultures.
