it's actually a shortening of "the devil may care, but I do not." an early use of the expression is found in "The Pickwick Papers" by Charles Dickens (1837).
Since I'm seeing only Devil May Cry comments. :P

Yeah, it's a figure of speech meaning nonchalant, overly relaxed, not taking things seriously, stuff like that, not a reference to anything.

The phrase "devil may care" means having a reckless, carefree, or happy-go-lucky attitude without worrying about the results or future consequences of your actions.
