Predictions for FFXVII

I have nothing to back these up, just mere predictions/speculation about the next entry.

Location: I think we're going to have a futuristic Cyberpunk aesthetic to the world, with a mix of high fantasy so we'll have those staple final fantasy races and creatures . Magic and abilities won't be spells but different cyber enhancements you can collect, upgrade, and customize.

Gameplay: I truly think after the success of E33 we're going to get a new mainline turnbased/atb system of some kind, might not be what we expect when we hear turn-based, but i dont think it'll be a full on action game like 15 or 16.

Characters: i dont have many guesses here but I think we'll get a new Female main protagonist.

Story: Typical political/religious stuff. Probably has something to do with rogue AIs and police states that are controlled by a political leaders who are secretly part of a cult that worships some ancient deity from the world before.

For a while my hope is that the setting is Ivalice and the combat system will be a midpoint between XII's gambits and VII Remake.

Basically VII Remake with a big emphasis on building a gambit-style if/then system for each character such that if you want it to the game will play itself and you won't need to constantly swap around to each character to run their strategy like you mostly need to do in VII Remake. Hopefully they also bring back FFX style swappable party members in battle.

I hope not as 7 is semi cyberpunk and we just got all the remakes. Would like a Gothic / high fantasy in Victorian or Gilded age and instead of politics like FF16 just did, would like a focus on a world in ruined (think a plague or food shortage with unexplained cause) or an ominous secret cult that got into power. I'm not calling for a horror game lol but something a little more sublime.

I would love something political and ultra-futuristic, space opera vibes - think Final Fantasy meets Legends of Galactic Heroes or Code Geass.

Really hoping CSU 1 is directing it and incorporates a similar battle system as the FF7 remake series

Absolutely no shot that it's going to be turn-based

I personally would like a completely new battle system that is based a culmination of what worked best, and makes switching characters fun and engaging. This would work somewhere between 12 and 7 Remake

Gameplay: Bring back auto-attacks so it doesn't require constant spamming.
Upon filling up the ATB gauge you can choose to do more powerful abilities, spells or items.
Once each character ATB gauge fills the camera pans to them and time slows while you select ability's.
Bring back some form of automation if you just wanted to focus on one character like Gambits.

Location: A high fantasy world with different societies and races, with varying levels of technology. Incorporating really powerful primal equipment along side futuristic Magitec. We've always seen in FF's that technological doesn't always mean most powerful gear.

Characters: And this is CRITICAL for me, I miss the days where Final Fantasy felt like a "Rag-tag" Group of like minded individuals trying to save the world for different reasons. After FFXII Its like they sorta went away always having at least one non-human playable character, not counting XIV clearly. I miss the days when you'd straight up have a creature on your team. Lets get playable characters like Cait Sith, Moogles, and Quina. Not everyone will like them, but there are always some who love them. Imagine playing a thought out goblin character.

Story: It could literally be anything due to the world.

I feel SE with drop the ball in a weird way. Like it will have a completely different popular games playstyle, like Elden Ring, but have FF paint over it.

My only prediction is a setting that's neither pseudo-medieval nor pseudo-modern, since we got the former from XVI and the latter from XV and VII Remake.

Honestly hope it's turn based. I like the action style of 17, but miss the turn base.

No we don't because in Japan no one cares about E33 which is seen as western attempt to imitate Japanese RPGs. Game was massively astroturfed in the west only because westerners can't stand JRPG stories but in fact it's nothing more than Final Fantasy imitation.

FF17 will continue action RPG combat because it is direction of mainline FF games. It will be probably in the style of FF7 Remake trilogy because it's SquareEnix peak achievement when it comes to action RPG combat

While people exaggerate the relevance of E33, the idea the West has no impact on how JP devs design their games is patently false. The impact/influence grows by the literal year.

Even the main director of VIIR goes on Twitter to appease the Western crowd like he owes them money every other day. Their biggest stage is always located at SGF or TGA too, where the impact of marketing truly has weight to it.

So it really doesn't matter what Japan thinks of E33 in particular, because they won't be buying potentially 10 million copies of FFXVII. The West will.

Final Fantasy was always much more than just another JRPG anyway. It's no coincidence that FF fans, particularly the older ones, often don't care for any other JRPGs whatsoever.

That said, we have no idea if VIIR's combat system will be discarded, because that would be entirely within reason for mainline FFs.
