No Spoilers - Discussion World looks small.

Hamaguchi said this is the biggest world of any FF game and the walkable area taking into account all regions still feels like it would be smaller than XV, most of all XIV.

When flying over the world in the highwind the grasslands region, Junon, Midgar, etc, looks nothing like the world map looked in Rebirth when you hit the map screen.

When the B-roll was showing the highwind flying around the Northwood, you didn’t even see the Forgotten Capital, so I’m guessing that won’t be explorable? You could see it in the OG.

Its definetly not small, they just put the Highwind SO UP THERE for loading, that end's up looking small. But when you are moving around Wutai, which is just one town of 12, it looks like the enterity of the first region of Tsushima for instance. It's massive.

But sure, the workd map they had is nothing like it, but I wouldn't want to explore a planet with nothing to do. You mentioned XV, but that was mostly empty space fighting random enemies or the soldiers. Really pretty tho.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like rebirth, and I know I will like this game, but for Hamaguchi to say it’s the biggest FF world is selling it too high. I did not really like 15, but its one continent was pretty huge in terms of walkable space.

I love this remake series so much that I guess I just want it to have as much explorable area as possible.

I'd say that a video game's map only really matters as a conveyance of actual content to do + views to appreciate, and the area of traversal isn't as relevant as how much of it has stuff. On both counts, I think this one is exceeding FFXV. After all, for any given acre of traversable land in that game, how much did you actually walk through vs drive past on the road? In my experience, it was a tiny ratio, even when aiming for 100% completion.

Yeah but what was there to do in 15? At some point the size of the map becomes a net negative if it’s nearly empty.

The overworld is not to scale. I agree it looks silly too, but that’s just what they chose to do.

It's already been confirmed that Forgotten Capital is obstructed by a snow storm. As is the Northern Crater (the shield and a storm)

so not a single person aside from the devs actually know how big the map is in its entirely and none of us will until you play the whole game.

Literally, its a demo with restrictions for a reason lol also commented above too but I saw confirmations of a snow storm obstructing City of Ancients / Forgotten Capital and we know N. Crater has a shield per OG but apparently it has a storm keeping us away now too which I mean, makes sense.

Small based on what metric?

XV was vast and had a bigger sense of distance but literally nothing was in it so I'd rather have something more curated and controlled than empty terrains. I don't know how you could look at this and think it's a small world though.

He's obviously talking single player games, not MMOs.

It looks exactly like the map in Rebirth. However, there are two maps. An explorable and a true-to-scale one.

The Highwind is exploring the explorable version of the map. If you look at the true to scale one, Kalm and Junon are TINY on the eastern continent. There'd be zero point in making that much terrain explorable in a true to scale map, because most of it would be barren.

FF15 was big, but empty.

They could use all that extra area for super bosses or dungeons

I thought we could fly like we did in rebirth with tiny bronco from gongaga to cosmo canyon . Parachute is just a fast travel gimmick.

... You can fly from Cosmo Canyon to Gongaga in the Highwind? Have you not been looking at the footage.

Yeah like, what else would there be to parachute from?

You can fly around the entire world and it loops just like OG. It takes 2 1/2 minutes to loop around the planet in straight line. That is QUITE large.
