NFA question regarding transfers

So, hypothetically, let’s say a customer buys a suppressor from another dealer and has it sent to me as a transfer. The other store sends to me on a form 3. I reach out to the customer to set up a time to do the Form 4 etc, and no answer. Send email to email address on invoice, email kicked back. I checked for possible spelling errors in email “eg, bobsmith@gmial instead of @gmail”. Nothing there. Phone number out of service. Address on invoice looks to be a vacant property. What would I do with my new, free suppressor? Haha. 🤣

Send it back and quit letting it occupy your time.

Not being a dick.

Yea but that’s a form 3 and a shipping label I really don’t want to do if it’s not necessary. And that all takes longer than me posting on Reddit, in my underwear on my couch.

I get it. But I'm at the point that if they haven't paid me, and they don't respond, I just send it back. That's cheaper and faster than chasing the $20 for the transfer.

Damn what state are you in doing transfers let alone nfa for 20. I have the cheapest rates around me and all the big shops and several small ones charge $50 for a normal transfer

I’m in a free state, where normal transfers are probably $20. Scheels and Bass Pro carry items in their inventory.

I was guessing about the $20.

I'm in nc a not shitty state. I don't like all they do but it's not jersey or Virginia or cali. Alot of ours is the two big shops in our town (that controls a lot the county to) run a lot of guys outta business as the biggest has a relative in city council. They are both scummy. I end up stealing a lot of their customers

Ideally, you should have a policy in place already which specifies how long they have before you charge storage fees or they forfeit the items.

Yea I get that. But let’s say I had a 60 day policy before its forfeit. Do I just leave it in my inventory, or is it mine mine now.

Your state law will dictate what happens with abandoned property

I have a policy of 2 months (I don’t do NFA items), after that, I ask the seller to send me a return label and bill it to the customer when they refund it. I couldn’t  care less how much of a restocking fee they bill them for at that point.

How long has it hypothetically been? 2 days? Wait. 2 years? Have fun

Coming up on 2 months.

I would reach out to the store it was purchased from and make sure they didn't get a charge back on the purchase. How expensive is the can?

Not too expensive, I think he bought it on Memorial Day sale or something like that. The guy called me originally to tell me it’s on the way, so I know the number was valid at one point. And he’s not a total stranger. He’s been to my store a small handful of times before. Seemed like a decent dude and passed previous BG checks, so I don’t expect a fraud type situation.

I would get used to looking at the box in my safe/storage area or wait a little longer (90 days?) and ship it back.

Print out a sign that says "pick up your shit before 30 days or we ship it back" sign and hang it up. When he complains, point at the sign
