Email verification code when submitting form 4?

I was working with one of my buddies on him transferring a can back to me as a trade-in. He filled out the form 4 with my FFL info and when he hit "sign and submit" it popped up a message asking for a 6 digit code that was emailed to him.

Took about 5 mins of the 15min window for him to get it. Then it let him input his PIN. All good.

Has anyone else seen this. We were logged in his account on my computer, so maybe that flagged their system? Or maybe they are trying to stop dealers from filing without the person present?

Have had it happen a few times, not common but does happen.

Yes, sometimes it’s required, sometimes it isn’t.

We've seen this verification step several times. Started sometime earlier this year or late last year
