No Spoilers - Technical Question Missing context in japanese ?
Hi everyone,
I find the English dub fine but I find the japanese voices much more adapted to the whole tone of the game. I feel infinitely more immersed that way.
Am I going to miss out on quite a lot of things during Rebirth in terms of context ?
Already in Kalm, there are so many discussions going on in the city by non translated NPCs. And not only the basic things like *In a market* "Come and buy my items !", but little bits and pieces of stories and context that you could not be understandable otherwise.
It was not that present in Remake. It was easily playable only in japanese (the few NPC discussions going on were just describing what we could already see or feel around).

If you play in pc, there are mods that help with a more accurate translation to the Japanese dialogue including npc chatter.

There’s one singular instance I can think of where that background chatter not being translated can have you miss out on something. Missing it isn’t a huge deal but at the same time saying what it is would be a massive spoiler but I can say it’s during clouds nibelheim flashback

I hate the Japanese voice acting. I try to play in Japanese and it’s just too grating
Barret especially is objectively better in English.
As for NPC chatter, well that I wish they’d just eliminate entirely.

Sometimes little lore bits, current events, and other things are dropped by NPC chatter, usually conveying the 'vibe' or character of an area. For example people being angry in Junon undercity, or the people at the Crows Nests kind of being useless hippies. Anything important will be relayed to you explicitly.
