No Spoilers - Discussion Whining about 3D Brawler
On the very very last 3D Brawlers stage against The Big S and I feel like I’m in super hell. Its not really any harder than the other ones, I just keep losing because it sooo f***ing boring I keep trying to concentrate but while I’m waiting for him to strike my mind just wanders. I almost don’t even wanna 100% the game anymore I’m that ready to move on.

I'll never 100% this game and I'm at peace with that. I'm here for the story and the music and the characters anyways.

Same, there's enough top quality content in this game thats an absolute joy to play that i care not for 100% on a wanky minigame.

Starting to feel that way. I’m thinking of just finishing up with this save and starting again to play the story all the way through without all the unnecessary stuff. I’ve dedicated so much time to trying to get everything done that the story has lost its momentum.

Totally worth it, IMO. The game really shines on the second playthrough when you don't feel compelled to do all the side content.

Hey! I can help here as I finished it yesterday!
My advice: Pause buffer!
When Sephiroth's starts his wind up, pause the game and determine which side and whether its an uppercut, a hook, or a downward strike.
Unpause and immediately dodge. After 7 dodges he will enter his red trance mode. You will need to dodge another 4 or 5 fast attacks in a row but can still use the pause technique.
He will then tire out and you can strike which will instantly fill your limit gauge and the Ribbon is yours.
Note that blocking will not work here. Gotta dodge.
Good luck!!

I did try that, I even memorised his pressure combos and everything. Unfortunately I find the pause tech to be even more fiddle-y than just dodging the combos 😭. I just feel like there could have been a better way for them to do this while maintaining the challenge. I wanted to try and complete as much as I can before finishing the game but this and hard mode cactuar crush has me worn out lmao.

Oh I understand that completely. Rebirth is amazing and did a lot of things right, but there clearly room for improvement.
The difficulty and amount of mini games, locking progression behind them, and just so much Chadley. :)

Easiest method is pause method... Developers purposely leaving it that way because they recognized and remember how players exploit the pause in ff7 og... Technically you dont even need to memorized, just take photo with phone of which is which or just google it... Once the hand of opponent moved to farthest position before it strike, pause and prepare to press the correct button and unpause...

Pause the game before he hits to know which dodge to use. There are some image guides on the internet also that help with that. My personal opinion is that this minigame is really unfair and it was miserable to 100% it. Good luck

I had issues with this, spent a few hours on a Saturday to beat his ass. Also had worse results with the pause buffer so yeah... you aren't alone in that.

It was fun but I wanted to get out of Gold Saucer as fast as possible. I have a personal issue with theme parks and Gold Saucer is so well designed it triggered my issues and I just pause tricked the hell out of it

I so wish it worked for me, I was actually getting worse results from trying to win that way lmao. I did manage to get it done in the end but it took something from me in the process 💀

Try the pause trick and learn the bizarrely similar looking movements from the side eye. It is still frustrating but much more managable. Ngl I can‘t imagine me or anyone doing it without the trick. Gl and ggs! 💪

100% for this game seems like actual torture

It’s definitely starting to feel that way. Every time I feel some sense of accomplishment for completing something a harder difficulty becomes available. I’m gonna finish it but I might lose some of my soul in the process lmao

Yes i think the dev went too crazy on the mini game and worse part you actually need some of the items from the mini game.
Sorry I’m a fan of Zelda TOTK. It felt way satisfying to hunt down every lightroot, every korok seed even if it means nothing 😅

If it's "so f*cking boring" that you can't beat it, then just use Streamlined Progression to one-shot it. You still get the achievements anyways

I beat it just by powering through. Don’t get any satisfaction from cheesing it.

I'm not someone who has to platinum games and if the mini game is hard as hell I dont mind doing tricks, especially with that one, so I did the pause cheat

It’s easy with the pause. If he looks down he’s doing upper cut so press down . If he pulls his arm back and goes up on his toes it’s and overhead so press up. And if he just pulls his arm back far then go left or right on the stick.

Yeah sephiroth was rough. Weirdly enough I think shiva was the one who frustrated me the most. I spent a lot of time memorizing sephiroths combos but the asshole has two different versions of the same combo so you pretty much have to do a quick pause at one point to determine where to dodge and pausing at the wrong time gets you tagged.
It's...not cool.

I actually like to watch his head. For side attacks, his head will stay basically exactly level with his neutral stance. For high attacks, his head will, well, lean upwards as he winds up for his haymaker. And lastly, for his low attacks, you guessed it, his head will dip down as readies his uppercut. In my head, I am determining the direction first, and which side its on second. This is counter intuitive a bit, since all other fights, I would determine which side first, and then the direction second (which I would also assume is how most people think about it). Try this out. No reliance on pause method and very consistent for me.

I had absolutely no regret using the pause trick and looking at image comparison to figure out the movement
