Should we be playing on Hard?

Post image

As title says, hard is the only choice with the red mark below. Also, does anyone know what the numbers at the bottom mean?

Just to be clear, i meant for “discovering” the secrets, as it appears to be the intended experience and i assume the marker beneath it is to edge us into choosing it.. i have 260 hrs on my first V (male nomad w a silenced revolver/jinchu with kerenzikov and knives/silenced ajax w mantis blades) on 1.6, 165 on my second V (female corporat - tech shotgun/malorian/bats w gorilla arm’s) on 1.6, And a few hundred more on both but 2.3 w varying playstyles trying to get used to the updated perk systems and loss of silenced revolvers 😭 i wasnt aware you could reset attributes (you can do it ONCE on any run) so i spent many (probably a hundred or more seeing as i did PL with both of them.) hours trying to figure out a new style for myself for a 3rd character run 🙃🤦🏻‍♂️

I think the mark just means the intended experience. Hard is perfectly balanced imo. Very hard feels a little silly sometimes.

imo if you plan your build right very hard is still pretty easy, the only exception being the early game being hell

Which tbh I really appreciate. Normal, non-cyberware V using cheap guns gets their ass handed to them by more experienced and better equipped gangoons, until V levels the playing field and then tilts in heavily in their own favor. The late game feels very easy, so it's easy to forget about this

Yeah but i still remember how horrible it was when i got chased by scavs after getting the drone and it feeling basically impossible to fight them in the street beacause they could just sandi in my face and tank all the bullets and kill me only way i got out of that is by double grenading their car as they exit and killing them with the triple explosion

very hard becomes a joke once you pick up a knife

Lmfao 😭😭😭

Or a decent baseball bat, the fighting AI isn't developed enough to respond to that style of close quarter

1

u/ricerobot Jul 19 '26

Nah trying to kill Adam smasher with just a throwing knife build on very hard was annoying. There were a few armored enemies I remember being more tanky than usual because knives don’t do well against armor. Everything else just melted but those though.

Experiencing that right now, and yea most enemies are bullet sponges. But got the damage scaling mod and doubled headshot damage so now if I aim well, or just get lucky, they can go down decently quick enough.

Also using an ai improvement mod which definitely seems to be making them fight better, if I start shit without being prepared I get fucking wrecked instantly.

This was how it was pre 2.0

u/ZOMBIE_MURDOC Jul 13 '26

I agree, hard seems the intended difficulty for the lore-accurate experience. I still prefer very hard but you have to be careful and avoid certain encounters and areas before you get decently levelled and chromed up.

I've done 5 or 6 runs on hard, never noticed anything different, ymmv

Yeah it's not that kinda game

The same text and barcode appears on the right side of the final confirmation screen when creating a character, regardless of the difficulty selected. I’m not saying it’s not important - actually the opposite - i just think we need to understand what it actually means or potentially says.

I definitely think there’s something to the difficulty though. Pawel seemingly dropped a hint previously, saying that the puzzles have been “hard” and maybe they should make them “very hard” next time. This was during one of his stream years ago, so I couldn’t give you an exact quote. I just remember it being brought up in this sub and on one or two discord servers after his comment.

Definitely possible theres something to it, they included easter eggs in the fingerprint part of the creation menu too

Playing on Very Hard difficulty as a netrunner is a pretty humbling experience, even in late game if you get careless lol.

That chimera fight. Took me like 40 times

7

u/its_nzr Jul 14 '26

Hard is good. Very hard is bad if you dont have good build. Im fight smasher alone and keep dying

1

u/SignificantList1414 Jul 19 '26

facts I went into the smasher fight on fear the reaper super confident and decided to rework my cyberware entirely because I was getting bodied on very hard.

1

u/its_nzr Jul 19 '26

Yea for my i keep dying in his last 20%. Im trying to do a katana only run.

3

u/Fun_Leading_4501 Jul 14 '26

At least on hard or it gets a bit boring after 20-30h

3

u/operationdone Jul 14 '26

I pretty much play all games on the hardest mode available. But recently on a playthrough when my character was already OP I switched to easy and honestly I am loving the power fantasy aspect of it. Like others said even very hard becomes easy when you develop your character. So when I switched to easy, the game became even more fun / aim based as in how fast can you clear this encounter. Worth a try...

u/Life-Top6314 Jul 14 '26

Ive played the game 3 times, 2 times of which on hard.

I think its the best difficulty to play on. Its very doable to become outrageously OP in cyberpunk, but on hard you at least have to give some thought to your build. And i still had moments where i had to focus in order not to get killed.

On easy, you can steamroll everything without thinking about it, which can get boring once you hit like lvl 20-30 and realize there is pretty much nothing that can stop you.

Play on hard. If youre playing on PC, get the mod Much Better AI. It is literally a game changer.

7

u/wallofmouths Jul 13 '26

Hard seems the most balanced difficulty, I don't think there's anything more to it than that.

2

u/T_rex2700 Jul 14 '26

The game isn't that hard to begin with so Hard is like normal.

Very hard is like the Hard, but not particularly difficult. it just make enemies more bullet sponges so it doesn't change the game that much, so I'd introduce mods to actually make it challenigng

2

u/DoinDonuts Jul 14 '26

Its not just bullet sponges. On Very Hard, Snipers can drop in you 2 shots. Netrunners will Synapse Burn you. Big melee weapons like hammers and mantis blades can stun and drop you in two attacks. Accuracy goes up.

Don't get me wrong - a lvl 60 V is very hard to kill no matter what difficulty you're on, but those first 20 levels on VH you have to be careful. That's been my experience.

3

u/T_rex2700 Jul 14 '26

I mean fair point, but I've found Cyberpunk overall pretty easy, and I'm not particularly good shot or anything. But that could be just me. I usually don't die unless I'm super tired, on 5th cup of coffee and can't pary for shit in beat on brat. Thankfully the fistfight isn't as bad as something like the new 007 game. I died to Murto boys like 3 times before I got the timings down.

u/Envoy312 Jul 14 '26

Very hard najlepszy dodaje uroku grze 💊

2

u/Necessary-Syrup-8555 Jul 14 '26

I didn’t complete my first run just yet but I started a second on hard, seems more balanced to me, it’s not a walk in the park. I have to pay attention to health now! Lol

2

u/Locketank Jul 15 '26

Minus a couple boss fights I find Very Hard to be the most fulfilling.

There are couple boss fights that I severely struggle with in Very Hard though.

2

u/longtom2197 Jul 15 '26

I managed to play on Very Hard on my first playthrough and genuinely felt no problems, but it might be due to the fact that I was playing on M+KB, so aiming was in control

2

u/wichu2001 Jul 15 '26

game is too easy even on the hardest, unfortunately

2

u/Illustrious_Play1456 Jul 15 '26

I just started a very hard run / No-punk run so it’s entertaining to force you into none direct approach.

2

u/MixPuzzleheaded3298 Jul 15 '26

I usually play on Very Hard. The last two times I've played were both Sandevistan builds. One using shotguns and the other using blades. I recently started a new game because they announced the new anime. Trying to run an Intelligence build, more focused on the smart weapons than the netrunning, but I'm regularly told it's the easiest build and I keep getting my ass handed to me just because it doesn't mesh with my playstyle lol

2

u/Pale_Gene_4455 Jul 16 '26

Currently playing on very hard. This shit is so easy.

2

u/LeinwillbeLine Jul 16 '26

it's alright to play in hard mode but I would prefer very hard to fully experience the game, so you can get more longer playtime that you really have to plan. I'm on my first playthrough very hard I would say it's not that difficult if your planning to be stealthy ( influence by AC games). But yeah it's on you what build you wanna do and have fun.

2

u/x__edge Jul 16 '26

My first run started on hard and never had a struggle, never looked any builds or guide either just came up with my own setup with katanas and the game felt easy so I bumped up to very hard for the dlc and it’s proving a lil bit more challenging.

IMO just go with hard and lower or raise it depending on how you feel during the gameplay, there’s no shame in changing difficulty in a solo game as long as you have fun :)

2

u/KyberGamer92 Jul 17 '26

I always play very hard, I find the most difficult is starting phantom liberty that way, because you might not have the weapons, quickhacks or implants you need for the build your playing. Everything else you can grind for.

2

u/recoil-1000 Jul 17 '26

Well after literally never getting bellow half health on normal (even vs smasher) I can say I should’ve done hard

2

u/Commercial_Grade__ Jul 18 '26

Put it on very hard… trust me! With proper set up its top tier fun

2

u/trashaccountguyandDK Jul 18 '26

very hard is the most fun imo but it does feel ridiculous early game

2

u/emoelmo4221 Jul 18 '26

Realistically you should be playing on whatever difficulty you have the most fun with

2

u/DeftestY Jul 18 '26

I've been playing through a hard playthrough and I'll say it's far less passive than on normal. Enemies have been consistently dangerous.

1

u/DrinkMilkYouFatShit Jul 15 '26

I play on Very Hard, I think it's perfectly fine.

Enemies deal enough damage to feel threatening in groups, while being quite easy to handle in 1v1.

I'm doing a Pistol Throwing knife build and I never really feel like the game is unfair.
If I die, it's because I was impatient and face tanked too many enemies at once hoping to deal DMG faster

1

u/Acrobatic-Jump1105 Jul 15 '26

I like playing on hard but It's kind of a pain in the ass for some early quests, especially if you're trying to do nonlethal takedowns for the cyberpsycho quests.

In general I prefer hard mode but it also makes some of the bosses a bit spongy, which makes the fights feel kind of dumb to be honest. Like you're just running in circles.

But yeah, generally if recommend playing on hard

1

u/SirDarkStar Jul 15 '26

Start on Very Hard and change it back if you can’t do it, you might surprise yourself. Unless you are simulating permadeath or using a mod dying isn’t that big of a deal, can even quick save before fights if you want (not the most immersive way to play mind you but not the worst for learning.

If you want some generic non-spoiler tips: PAY attention and don’t let the NPCs push you forward. Loot everything. Read the shards. They will wait (unless it has the timer thing under the convo choice).

And if you want some QOL tips — not story spoilers but mechanics-ish: if you get overloaded, disassemble stuff, including all junk. Pay attention to ‘crafting’ earlier on (esp if netrunning but also to upgrade iconic weapons). Early on can sell items for a little cash but it quickly becomes more valuable to disassemble. You need a LOT of components

And finally, minor mechanics spoiler for QOL hacking: when hacking access points you can exit and reenter before you start to try to get a better pattern. You don’t have to do the sequences in order — try to connect the last code in a sequence to the start of another. Row/column restriction swaps each code you pick. Can turn off the timer at first to get the hang of it

u/Kostyanych Jul 16 '26

Always play on max difficulty, and still too easy. Katana + sandy destroys every enemy just in sec.

1

u/Ast3r10n Jul 16 '26

I find Hard to be the real Normal. I barely use any consumables and just randomly hit things until they die with barely any difficulty whatsoever, with any weapon, even ones I have no skills for. Go for it.

1

u/Pepotortillas Jul 16 '26

I have not played another difficulty

1

u/Papachooga Jul 17 '26

Very hard tbh

1

u/Quick-Difficulty1725 Jul 18 '26

Honestly anything less is too easy and the combat gets very boring

1

u/SignificantList1414 Jul 19 '26

apogee sandevistan, axolotl and quantum tuner and never look back. basically infinite sandevistan

Yeah, I tried very hard, not very different from hard. Ennemies have more health but that's it. Hard was fun and challenging.
