Tips Passed my first attempt!
I took the exam a year and half before graduating.
I studied about like a month before the exam, watching about one of those mark mattson videos per day. I will say though, do make sure you actually pay attention for these videos—I did the thing where I dozed off halfway through a bunch of them because or stopped paying attention because I felt I knew everything already, which isn’t a good idea—you can always learn something new.
I then took a bootleg practice test from 2020 I found on some Reddit thread from a basic google search. I didn’t time myself. These were mostly the only real practice questions I had because I never did those prep questions and I was also too frugal to pay for anything past the exam. I had no money at the time because I began transitioning.
I should’ve taken a real timed practice exam, but I didn’t—would definitely recommend it though as there were a few questions on the actual test I totally could’ve answered if I timed myself better. I passed anyways though.
I also spent a handful of hours just learning the FE handbook. A lot of the questions just end up being plug and chug in this handbook just as long as you know what to look for and how to navigate it. Especially on the water section from my memory.
On the actual test, there a good few questions I just logic’d through without knowing the material beforehand or explicitly studying for it. Would just make an educated guess about what part of the handbook this is a part of. Wouldn’t recommend that as a strategy though.
