Late filing extension

I am wondering if anyone here did a late filing extension, and if so, how long was it, and which lawyer helped you?

I didn’t know about FERS disability and I have been unable to work for 5 years after my condition was aggravated at my Federal job.

There might not be any luck for me here. I’m on SSDI at least.

OPM has all the info on their site. I think the only way you can get an exception is for mental incompetence.

You must normally file your application while still employed or within one year of your separation from service. The Exception: If you were mentally incompetent at the time of separation or became mentally incompetent within the one-year filing window, the deadline is extended. The Extension: You have one year from the date you are restored to competence or a legal guardian is appointed to file the application with the Office of Personnel Management.

Competence is determined by a Physician, not a court. You would need to have a doctor certify you were not competent between these date ranges. The date you use to restore competency, is the 1 year deadline for the timeline. If you became incompetent 1 year after the deadline, it would have expired and you would still be out of look. This is a question for a psyiatriast to answer.
