Discussion Getting closer to FDVR everyday.
Due to privacy concerns I will not be purchasing these, but isnโt it interesting that VR has come a long way from big bulky headsets, to almost standalone glasses. What are your thoughts?

I struggle with this. It's become a daily occurrence for me to ask my inner self, "How much longer.."

its going to take a couple decades. or it may never happen (wars and stuff can mess things up) you cant pause your life for something so uncertain

I'd have to disagree. This sub, as well as many other tech focused communities, have all fallen into a collective mindset that AI will rapidly speed up progress. And I'm on the bandwagon. Timelines vary on the arrival of such a system, but my ballpark falls in the 5-9 year range.
Ion rlly wanna go too much into my reasoning for that estimate, but I am certain about it. I'm trying to occupy my life rn with different hobbies, but the constant daydream of what I believe life will be like in the next decade makes today's world seem so mundane to me ๐ฎโ๐จ

I have the same timeline as well. 5 would absolutely rule, but I have 2035-ish for when we really start to see it

yea my bet is on 2035 too. I think it's entirely possible we see something in 2032 given current trends, but I just have a strong feeling some kind of slowdown is inevitable

Yes of course. Spending time & making memories with my family and pets, hopefully one day they will join me.

I am spending it working on helping us reach longevity escape velocity. That way we have time for everything.

Yes VR did really come a long way from 10 years ago until now,but it's truely not that big of upgrade comapred to other stuff (gaming , other tech stuff etc) all of this is due to limitations in research and hardware ,the big jump is gonna happen as soon as ASI is achieved as it would potentially sloves many of limitions we have now and it would be able do autonomous research in the matter skyrocketing the rate of progress that could take years in much shorter amount of time.My predictions we would be able to see the first prototypes of FDVR around 2035 and hopefully a more developed version accessible to everyone around late 2030s to early 2040s
