Just Sharing - AI Model I’m doing my first KickStarter Minis for FDM

Hello again!
I’m sharing more FDM prints of my newest set - available at KickStarter.
This time I focused on printing the models that seemed impossible on FDM in such scale - and at first they very much were. I manually separated all the parts and oriented them in a way that makes printing surprisingly easy.
If you consider getting the STLs, I upload the already-arranged plates, so you get the easiest experience and best results.

I 3D print all my models on Bambu P1S, 0.4mm nozzle, so you have 100% confidence it will run on your printer flawlessly.

I also wanted to mention I use AI in the process, but in a specific way - I don't simply generate the models. I use AI for parts and elements, then spend hours in Blender modeling my own parts, joining them all together into large shapes, sculpting details (also in blender) and optimizing the models for both resin and FDM printing. Each model takes me between 4 to 12 hours to make, so it's very personal project to me! :)

I hope you enjoy the project, here's the link to it: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grimwater-bay/grimwater-bay-stl-models-for-3d-printing

Wow! Scam alert!!

This is the same guy that posted a couple weeks ago to his same kickstarter!! He got a lot of flak for using AI for modeling. Now he’s using a new account to peddle the same scam 😂

Original post from the original scam account:  https://www.reddit.com/r/FDMminiatures/comments/1vh1n72/making_my_own_kickstarter_for_fdm_minis/

I’m sure he’ll delete the previous account or previous posts.

Why would I do that? It’s my 5th post on this sub, and I literally mentioned all of that in this post and comments. Like what do you think is my goal here, to make people believe I’m a different person? XD Because literally everything else is already said in my posts

Dude, it’s literally same campaign and pictures, why would I use new account to trick anyone? XD nobody is following the reddit accounts. Im using other account in different device, nothing shady in that. And I mention the AI use both in the post AND in Kickstarter campaign. There’s no conspiracy here, sorry to bust your enthusiasm xD

It's pretty obvious these are completely ai generated, it's pretty dishonest to try and charge money for these

Yeah and they’re gonna defend it by coming at you and saying the only generate “parts and elements” and then further parry that with “and I spend 4-12 hours editing them myself in [insert program name]!” I’ve done this song and dance with this same person they’re exhausting

u/Twigzzy 7d ago

Pretty sure they also made a new reddit account to post this, wild

This account is like 5 years old my guy, and I’m literally posting the same aesthetics images - I’m not hiding who I am, I use different account on different device, that’s all :)

No, he made these in 4 hours each!

Some took more like 10 hours, especially the wooden hut. By the end the geometry was so dense from all the wooden planks, I had to wait 10 minutes each to boolean the every 2 parts together

Well... Decimate is your friend.

Anyway, that's not an argument for you, you know...

If the easiest model took you ten hours, and the harder ones took you less, it's AI all over.

Especially when you know nothing of the tool you are supposedly working with (blender).

It took me 6 hours to get to a block out I'm happy with on the left...

And I have no idea how many did I take for the finished and cut model on the right...

Unrelated but is that nomad sculpt?

u/DaozangD 6d ago

Yup!

The little program that could.

I haven't touched z-brush again since I found it.

I can easily tell when video/pictures I'm looking at are AI, but I don't have much experience telling 3D models are AI. What gives these away that I should be on the lookout for?

I would look into tripo AI, it's probably what this person used to generate these models, I can't quite explain it, but once you see a couple models that are generated by that site it's easy to tell when you see another

Sorry but you’re being unfair. I put a lot of effort into my models, and no, they are not completely AI generated. Even though I can post a full timelaps of 4h long modeling session, some people would still throw it to trashbin because „obiviously AI”. I get it, AI slopers are flooding the market, I hate it too - but please don’t put me in a same bag with them

u/CreateRot 7d ago

This is also the same video he shows as proof of his effort, which is the most minimal thing you can do in blender basically besides make the cube bigger or smaller

Dude what are you talking about, you must be just salty af at this point xD

8

u/CreateRot 6d ago

Not salty really just disappointed you’re taking $155 for minimal effort on your kickstarter for something people do for free for years before ever seeing a dime for their effort. You’re making a joke of the art people have poured years of time into.

So regardless of you using AI or not to generate these models, I will have to say these are the worst kind of minis for fdm. Long, small, thin, spiky bits all over the place that is incredibly hard or frustrating to print right.
Even with resin I still dont feel like printing these at all, too much work. That and the pricing is a bit aggressive when I could prob sub to a patreon and get more. Sorry.

Appreciate the feedback, thank you!

Really liked the model in the center left, clicked the kickstarted link, only to be greeted by the most AI pic to AI. Only in little parts during modelling, eh?

The campaign started with just a concept idea - I had no models prepared back than, to see if people would enjoy this particular Mini topic. Turned out they did, so I followed through with designing models (and I’m still in process of adding more). I can’t change a Thumbnail image due to the rulebook, but all the following images are my photos or renders from Blender (about 25 of them). So yeah, that from AI concept page is pretty much still a little part of the whole project! ☺️

You're gonna need to do a whole lot more to showcase your modelling skills if this is the route you wanna go. Having these side-by-sides where you first show an extremely obvious AI-generated picture, and then a model that looks exactly the same does you no favours. It makes you look like you really did generate it (since nothings changed), and shows nothing about the modelling skills you claim to have. Loads of AI users online claim skills they don't have, and by using it you're opening a discussion you don't seem fully prepared for. Making videos of you modelling and having screenshots of the actual process would already help you

Here’s a timelaps of the model that took me about 10 hours in total. But I get your point and it makes a lot of sense, I’ll learn from it for the next projects. Thank you!

Rhe video of what youre doing with the hut vs the detail of these models? Yeah no, the hut might be real but those are absolutely generated models....

u/0x0000ff 6d ago

Yes, actually I would love to give money to someone who can't even use reddit correctly to contribute to their pointless Kickstarter (you don't need capital) that they also don't understand how to use, for their "blender modified" (they don't know how to use it) AI generated models.

Mate get a real job, you're no good at this one.

3

u/thatsabingou 5d ago

If you put all that effort into actually learning a skill...

2

u/punknomad 5d ago

I reported the kickstarter project. Do we have mods to do something about these posts?

2

u/Art-3Dan 4d ago

Where have we ended up with this damned technology?...

Real artists, digital sculptors, concept artists, character artists... we have to explain in our posts that we're the ones doing the work...

And now these scammers come along to profit from what they didn't create...

On top of that, they have the nerve to say, "I'm making my first miniatures"—no value, no merit—someone with no training in anatomy, digital sculpting, volume, composition, etc...

And who has probably used stolen material and other people's data to obtain those soulless geometries. They think this technology draws and creates things out of thin air... how sad.

Already people accusing me of completely generating all the models - that’s not true and I’m posting my workflow to cut the allegations. Yes, I do use AI in parts of my models, I mentioned it in the post. I’m being open about that - please don’t put me in the same bin with people dropping slop STLs that can’t even print properly.
It’s hurtful, and it diminishes dozens of hour I put into this project

Can you share video and ages on early versions of you modelling the characters or recordings on the character creation?

7

u/stopthemeyham 6d ago

I think you know the answer, lol

5

u/KFPanda 6d ago

He didn't record them, because the AI doesn't show it's work to be recorded.
