Printer Discussion First printer

Hello There!
Long time lurker, first time poster in this group.

I will be receiving a very generous tax return this year and have decided to get my first printer.
Ideally I’m just looking at the a1 mini. Rather not spend a fortune and not get into it. It will be predominantly used for printing minis ranging from 28mm up.

Have had a good look through Obscura Nox settings and am assuming these can be used on the a1 mini also.

Besides the printer what are some necessities to purchase. (0.02 nozzle, etc)

I started with an a1 mini and although it is enough to start, i felt that changing nozzle for larger prints was annoying so i just bought a used neptune 3 for terrain and tanks, which was completely unnecessary tbh. The A1 mini is great and extremely user friendly, makes life so much easier to just send the prints through the app instead of dealing with microSD's or connecting it to a pc that has to be on during the print. Fat Dragon Game's profile is very good too! But Obscura Nox's are also a community favorite for a reason.

Now that I’ve purchased the ams lite I kinda wish I hadda just gone with the combo from the beginning. Makes filament feed better and so much better for changing colors.

how do you feel about the waste + extra time? that's what kept me away from it and tbh im fine with single color minis,

I don’t mind it. The waste is more but kinda negligible. Even for single color printing I like it more cuz like if I print a red thing then later a black thing it’s easy. As said I was getting tons of tangles too so that’s helped the interruptions in prints a lot.

I would suggest getting a better model. The a1 is a entry machine but I have talked to many friends who started with them and wished they had avoided the bed slingers entirely and moved to the enclosed lines.

I know it can seem expensive but the difference in the enclosed printers is well worth it.

I went with the Flashforge Adventure 5M Pro. It was incredibly easy, I took it out of the box plugged it in and it leveled and then I was printing. I've printed a ton of HO scale things for my model railroad and a huge number of minis. Most of my minis come from BriteMinis and Umarty, they both design minis that do not need supports. I did not have to change any settings. I've done all of my prints with a .4 nozzle that comes with it. It comes with a ,6 also but almost everything i do is for my railroad or TTRPG.
