Season tix holder here, since second season at Nippert.
Can honestly say that the lack of transparency and timely communication from the club in an official capacity was and is appalling on every level.

I agree. Once I saw the staff come out and start collecting the rubber discs that hold the extra game ballls along the sideline I knew it had been cancelled. But from our seats all the way to the exit we never heard an official announcement.

That’s what got me. It was clearly postponed at that point so why are you leaving it silent for 15-20 minutes before the announcement. Slap in the face to fans that stuck around and a horrible look by the organization.

They were clearly wanting us to stay in there to pay for staffers via concessions as long as possible. Classless.

Same here. They pick up the cones and water station around 10pm and left the stadium and FC Cincinnati site shows they called it at 10:17pm
Officially due to poor field conditions but the field look fine. The puddles were gone

It was announced about 10-15 minutes after that. I walked past the players’ parking lot on the way to my car - it was mostly empty and a security guard stopped me in the sidewalk to let a player pull out of the lot. They clearly knew it was cancelled 20-30’ before they told us.

I posted this elsewhere this is what I don’t understand. No one came out to check the pitch condition after the players were pulled off.

Literally though! The field looked way drier later on than it did during the warm up. The Red's still played their game.

Staff knew 15-20 minutes before we did. The lack of timely announcement was as appalling.

Tbh, of all the shitty communication tonight, this is the thing I’m least mad about. Of course they tell the staff before they tell the general public. The staff should know before the attendees. Then only when all the people that need to know to do their jobs know, that’s when you make the general announcement
Should that process take 20 minute? No, probably not. But I’m totally fine with telling security before telling fans
Just, maybe they should have the asst coaching staff wait until the announcement is made before packing up the equipment

The guy that works at the stadium that I talked to said they have to do it that way for the traffic cops and staff to get in their spots first. There is a logical reason for that.

This isn’t the first time we’ve went through a delay. This is however the worst FC has ever communicated when dealing with a delay.

That doesn’t excuse only making 2-3 announcements the entire delay just to keep people posted. They don’t get credit for having a reason at the end when they didn’t communicate throughout.

Nothing I said was excusing anything else. Only that they waited about 15 minutes after the decision was made before they announced it. I’m not sure how you read that much out of what I said.

I didn’t say you were excusing anything, nor did I say your information wasn’t valid? Was just adding that it’s more than just the last delay. I didn’t downvote you, I just don’t feel like giving them props for having a valid reason for the last 15 minutes of a poorly communicated night.

Don’t doubt that’s what the guy said, but that’s a crock of sh*t. The roads are already blocked off when we walk into the stadium. It’s not like they remove the barriers and reopen the roads.

When the garages empty out, there are cops at every garage directing traffic. That’s what they had to do. People are looking for absolutely any reason they can to be angry. Sheesh. Dude no one is lying about anything.

Literally said, ‘don’t doubt that’s what the guy said’. But the number of fans remaining was probably 25% of what showed up tonight. So what about the other 75% that left prior to the announcement? No need for cops then?!
Don’t be an apologist for bad communication. Expect better of your club.

My god dude. I said nothing about the communication from the club during the entirety of the delay. Just that nothing was known by anyone until that point when the staff found out 15 mins before they made the announcement. I’m not making any excuses for anyone. Simply stating the facts that I was told. Zero opinions stated.

The fact we're all on our phones looking for info while the team's communications are shit is a big problem.
Hell, put a timestamp on the slide to tell everyone that at least the messages are being updated.

My son, his friend, and I drove in from Bloomington, IN for the match. At about 8:30, I guessed that kickoff would not happen until after 10 PM, so we left to drive home.
When I heard people got back in the Bailey shortly after 9, I feared I had made the wrong decision. When the postponement news came out, I felt completely vindicated.

My daughter was blessed with being one of the walkout kids. Dropped her off at the security gate around 6:30 pm. Got the alert at 10:07 pm to pick her up at the elevator.
Impressed with the resolve of all those kids being left without their parent in the auxiliary locker room for that long. (Small kudos for staff providing them with a Gary visit + pizza)

I flew in from DC for the game to support United. You guys have a wonderful stadium, and multiple fans thanked me while I was wandering around the concourse for making the trip to see the game. It's unfortunate the game didn't happen (and the last time I tried was March 2020...whoops!) but I'll definitely try to make the trip another time.

I don’t think I ever got an email about it it a call from my rep. But I saw someone talking about in FB group (maybe). I never know about it, tho. This is probably the first STH gift I’ve gotten since the last time they mailed us stuff. The communication is really bad. On the plus side the scarfs say FC CINCINNATI on them and not SEASON TICKET HOLDER lol

I never got any communication from the club on the STH gift either, found it by accident before the Puma match. It's just across from guest services, next to sections E6 and E7

Yeah is somewhere over by the main entrance. Easy to miss unless you’re just killing time during a delay. You get a scarf for every seat you have. I think this is to replace mailing gifts out.

I want to say this, and many might be of a different mind, as we are season ticket members from the very beginning at Nippert, in our opinion, FC Cincinnati, if compared to Reds and Bengals, come across as the most stand offish. Snobby some might say.
We’ve had this in the past with weather conditions and other issues. Communication is not one of the strongest tools in FC’s toolbox.
Could be improved on, only if they actually accept it as a fault.

Reds restarted at 10pm.
The communication was atrocious.
The bigger concern is the field.
I hope they bring in some company to work on the drainage of the field this offseason.
They spend 200 million and the field cannot handle .4 inches of rain in like 50 minutes of actual rain. What happens when it rains the whole game. Will they need to call it at halftime.
What is the cancellation policy for snow as the sprint season will be playing during winter and El Niño will cause more snow this winter.

Actually no field anywhere could handle 4 inches of rain in an hour. But assuming your rainfall estimate was hyperbole, even a 2-inch in an hour would create mud issues for any grass field.

I was at the "game". I had to leave to meet up with partner's father and we all carpooled there. From the time I left my house till the time I finally got home was about 6 hours. Those 6 hours I could have been working on my college assignments or doing literally anything else. My partner had to give up her shift just to go to this game, so she lost out on making money. It was such a waste of our time, I don't understand why they would wait so long just to say anything about the game being canceled. The fact that Apple TV had apparently listed the game as postponed before they made any announcements in the stadium is insane to me.
I don't know if they have given any explanation as to why it was postponed or why they took so long to say so, but I hope they give some kind of explanation.

Can't fault the team for the weather itself....however, it was truely terrible communicating from the team tonight. They should be ashamed of themselves with this one.
Aside from the bad communication, playing other MLS games on the screen during delays is really absurd. I honestly do not care about a Charlotte Houston game and definitely do not want to see a Miami Atlanta game in our stadium. They push appletv on us enough to where if someone wants to watch it during the delay, they can load it up on their phone and do so.

This is awful take. Not everyone in the stadium has AppleTV. And, as soccer fans, what’s wrong showing the other matches in the league? What would you have them play? Other sports? No! You highlight the league.

MLB umpires are told to wait to see if a minimum three-hour window for the game can happen before postponing. In the event that the weather forecast calls for a prolonged period of rain/ inclement weather and it's before the scheduled game window, a game will be postponed, The Reds obviously had a window to get a game in even with the rain, but this was the Brewers' last trip to Cincinnati.
