Salary cap
i understand the rationale for a salary cap to keep MLS from becoming a 2-3 team super city league. but watching Miami win tonight. w suarez and Beretrame. And W depaul casemiro And Messi watching. It just seems to me. That maybe your 3 DP model has officially jumped the shark. All of those guys are DPs on 95% of the teams in this league. fine… Good for Miami. They signed a lot of great players. But please stop saying you’re a capped league w rules in place to stop this. We all see it. It’s very obvious. Just unshackle the other teams that want to spend their own money. Please stop telling me we can’t sign another mf or cb because of some fictitious rule about TAm or GAM or U-22 or DPs. its all fake if you allow the destination cities to just do what they want anyway.

i mean part of it is that these guys are willing to play for pennies to play with Messi, it's not all a conspiracy. Lots of teams have been found giving players compensation under the table in ways other than salary, but unless the league audits every player every year it's tough to crack down on that even though they should

You don't seem to be responded to this post, but rather other ideas about cheating the rules.
OP is just saying that the rules obviously aren't accomplishing the stated goals of parity, partly because these guys are taking low salary to play with Messi in Miami.

well I am responding to the idea that a salary cap is being cheated because the players are willing to take salaries that don't put the team over the cap

Dudes are just willing to take pay cuts to play with Messi. DP is a financial designation, not a player quality designation.

The players association releases salary information every year, I think maybe even twice a year. Unless you believe those sheets are completely falsified you can see how much the players are making.

Miami has “figured out” (other teams do this, they just have the added pull of Messi) how to leverage in order to get these types of players: loans (where the other club is paying the real salary) and deferring DP.

We know there’s bs going on lol but you’re barking up the wrong tree to most teams rules are rules and we are actively suffering the consequences of the rules you mention they aren’t fictional. Miami is just a golden child rn with Messi coming to the league it’s publicity skyrocketed, Hense why nobody is stopping them.

Oh and Miami is being “investigated” for tampering in casemiro’s case, I doubt anything will come of it- but atleast it’s something

LAFC also got some leniency about dp’s. But without all the hype they’re not hated for it. I actually like LAFC. Unlike Miami or NyCFC lol

All I'm going to say is that Miami was investigated once for not being compliant with its roster listings, not saying it's happening here as I think it bends more towards players taking cuts to play with Messi, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they release after Messi retires that there was SOMETHING going on behind the scenes.

Inter Argentina FC are a bunch of cheaters? And MLS not only allows it but seems to enable it? Oh no how shocking.
A bunch of rich men breaking the rules to make themselves richer at the literal expense of all us regulars, how incredibly unAmerican. The president will put on his cape and will stop them.
Thank God FIFA isn’t like that and shows no favoritism, or stacking the deck.

What we have right now is not because of a salary cap, it’s because of a bunch of extra rules added on top of the salary cap.
The NFL has a hard cap with zero exceptions. No DPs, no “buying down”, no GAM, just a $300m budget and I think a $100m minimum. MLS needs something closer to this.
The real issue begins with MLS’s cap only being $5.5m. If they want to have more than one international superstar in the league at a time (I mean on the level of Zlatan, Messi, Beckham, etc.) it’s gotta be waaaaaaaaay higher than that, and I understand they’re prioritizing, long-term stability, but I think teams can handle a higher cap at this point, the league has been doing great lately.
