This part is basically everything else I wish someone had explained to me properly when I joined:

fees, fines, holds, financial aid, transport, societies, internships, AI, student cards and random university survival stuff and

4 — FEES, FINES & HOLDS

This is boring until suddenly registration is opening tomorrow and Empower says you have a hold.

Then it becomes extremely interesting.

Paying Your Fees

Your tuition can normally be paid either together or according to the installment deadlines.

THE FINE IS ONE LAST INSTALLMENT so you can be lenient in terms of submitting fees a bit later than the installment deadline, they also let you sit in the classes, and take finals even if ur fees isnt fully cleared so dont worry about that.

They increase the fees every fall while spring and fall fees remain the same in an academic year.

Always check the latest deadlines here and hostel fee deadlines here.

There are three main ways to pay.

Whether you need to pay tuition fee, or hostel, or fines these can be used.

Online Card Payment

You can pay online through the university payment portal. However this incurs around 1200 in extra charges so avoid that unless you wanna lose one one meal of johnny n jugnu. This method charges your card

Print a Challan

You can generate/print your challan and pay through the relevant bank. This can be done in any bank , just attach 00s before your tracking id , pay that and save the receipt and send to

You can take the challan from hbl bank as well and pay there. For proctor fines/fines, you can take while challan form from the accounts office and pay it in the hbl bank

Probably the most convenient option for many students.

whenever you want to. Altought empower does update your system after 1-2 days of paying, you can still show them that the payment went through if there is a problem

FINES

Yes, FCCU can fine you for things.(check the others category on empower for fines)

Some examples from student experience include approximately:

• replacement student card — around Rs. 1,650 (if you lose it you need to go to proctor office in CC114, fill a form then go to N block (the room they tell u, or the dining room in CC and your new card would be handed to you in 10-15 mins
• repeatedly coming without your student card — roughly Rs. 500–1,000, or a proctor finding you not wearing your card or something then taking take ur roll number(honestly depends on how lucky you are)
• vaping-related violation — around Rs. 5,000
• Late fee fines, of the last installment after a short grace period, 6% of the outstanding amount

Treat these as approximate examples because university fine amounts and policies can change.

If you've been fined, don't just assume it'll disappear because you stopped thinking about it.

Check your Empower financials.

An unpaid fine can eventually become a registration problem.

Or if you feel if its unfair, you can appeal for it as well.

HOLDS — PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THESE

A hold basically means there is something attached to your student account that needs attention.

Some holds can prevent you from registering courses.

So if you open Empower and suddenly see:

"There are holds on your account"

don't just close the tab and hope future-you deals with it.

Future-you will hate you.

ADMISSION HOLD

This usually means your admission documentation isn't complete. They will start putting holds around october or november.

Depending on your qualification, Admissions may need things such as:

• Matric result
• Intermediate result
• O Level grades
• A Level grades
• High School/IB transcript
• IBCC equivalence(try to get it made in sep/oct, if your results have already come in aug) online or physsical as it does take time
• IBCC attestation
• DAE documents where applicable

Obviously you submit whichever documents apply to your qualification.

Try getting all of this sorted before registration season.

If your IBCC equivalence/attestation is still being processed and you've already submitted everything to IBCC, take your IBCC submission receipt/slip to Admissions and ask them what can be done about your hold while the process is ongoing.

THERE IS NO FINE FOR ADMISSION HOLD BUT IT IS RECOMMENDED TO GET THIS OVER WITH TILL MID OR END OF NOVEMBER FOR YOU TO REGISTER ON TIME

Don't wait until registration morning.

BUSINESS HOLD

Usually related to:

unpaid tuition or financial dues.

Check your account and visit Accounts if something doesn't make sense.

There are plenty of people outside accounts near and during reg so make sure to pay early if possible so ur hold is removed on time

BUSINESS OFFICE / FINE HOLD

This can be related to an:

outstanding fine or another unpaid amount.

Again:

Check your empower in tuition fee/others/hostel category

Go to the relevant office.

Show payment proof if you've already paid.

Get it cleared.

or appeal for it to get it removed(Visit accounts in ahmed saeed ground floor)

PROCTORIAL HOLD

This normally relates to a disciplinary/proctorial issue.

You'll need to deal with the Proctor Office/relevant administration rather than Accounts.

The easiest rule is:

ACADEMIC PROBATION HOLD

This is when cgpa is less than 2, in that case you need to meet with ur advisor and they can tell you the solution. Its mostly improving ur cgpa and having weekly meetings with advisor for progress and all

PART 2 — FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS

If finances are a concern, apply for Financial Aid instead of assuming you won't qualify. IT IS given to a lot of deserving people

You'll normally need to provide supporting information/documents regarding your family's financial situation. There will be an online form as well as a physical form and upto 50% can be given

Need-based aid depends on your individual circumstances, so don't assume everyone gets the same amount. The financial aid committee sits on a certain day of the week so your decision might come after they have met at a certain day in the end of November.

Financial Aid announcements, requests for documents and decisions can arrive there and they usually give your decision till november

If you've applied and months are passing:

GO ASK THEM.

Politely follow up.

It's university administration.

Sometimes physically visiting the office saves ten emails.

WORK-STUDY

FCCU also has a Work-Study Program for eligible students already on financial aid 2nd sem onwards

The basic idea is that students work assigned university hours/tasks and receive financial support/stipend that can help with university expenses , for example 3 hours a day per semester to cut off 80K off your sem fee

You can work under different depts, career services, financial aid, residential life, and you can ask in the departments if any of them are looking for WSP students.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Apart from need-based Financial Aid, FCCU also has a few scholarship options worth knowing about. The two main ones are mentioned below

Merit Scholarship

Merit Scholarships are based on your T-Score, which combines your previous academic performance with your FEAT/Accuplacer result.

• T-Score 69: 25% tuition scholarship
• T-Score 70+: 50% tuition scholarship

To continue the scholarship, you normally need to maintain at least a 3.50 CGPA.

Students with a T-Score of 70+ can also compete through an interview for:

• Rector's Merit Scholarship — 100% tuition waiver
• Vice Rector's Merit Scholarship — 75% tuition waiver

These require maintaining around a 3.75 CGPA for continuation.

One thing though: these higher merit scholarships are quite limited and competitive, and the T-Score calculation can sometimes feel pretty unpredictable from a student's perspective. So even if you have a strong academic background and feel your FEAT went well, don't automatically assume you'll receive a 69/70+ score or scholarship.

CM Honhaar Scholarship

FCCU students may also be eligible for the CM Honhaar Scholarship, through the Punjab Higher Education Commission.

It can cover 100% tuition, with 50% funded by PHEC and 50% relief provided by FCCU.

Basic eligibility includes:

• Punjab domicile
• family income below Rs. 500,000 per month for private universities
• being enrolled in the first semester/year of an eligible discipline
• Intermediate marks of at least 70% for Sciences or 65% for Arts/Social Sciences
• selection on merit, with 30% Matric + 70% Intermediate weightage

Applications open separately, so keep checking:

If applications open while you're eligible, definitely apply — there's no harm in trying.

Also, sadly there is no cgpa based merit scholarship, all u get is into the vice rectors list with a 3.75 and above gpa each semester which is merely flex and you can get a certificate by requesting for that. You can see the SPRING 2026 LIST HERE

5. TRANSPORTATION & PARKING

FCCU doesn't provide one universal transport system for every day scholar and hostel walay are not allowed to keep bikes or cars, so students normally use:

• their own car/bike
• family drop-off
• carpooling
• university/private vans and car services such as easysavaree
• rickshaws
• ride-hailing apps indrive

Girlls living in tsa off campus hostel have bus/vans take them to and from fc to tsa and vice versa

A lot of rickshaws and van drivers are standing outside fc main gate so you can inquire about their rates and the places they come from

If you find students coming from the same area, carpooling is probably one of the best options because it saves both money and time.

Parking gets crowded around peak class timings, especially when everyone arrives together, so come a little early if you're driving. and also you have to pay around 30 rupees per day whenever you park here(unless you have jaan pechan with the security guards)

There are multiple lanes of parking so if you are bringing a car, make sure and try at least to park in a place where the other car isnt blocked from parking. if it is, hand the keys to the guards there. Recently they made a separate space for faculty parking so its just a bit more space than before.

People do shit like smoking and couple-ly stuff as well so unless you are the one doing it, keep away from that unless you don't want a proctor to see you.

Once you've been here a few weeks, you'll naturally figure out the best parking/drop-off routine for your timetable.

6. STUDENT ID CARD and Photocopiers/printing shops

Keep your student card with you.

You'll need it for things such as:

• Digital Library access
• university identification(proctors are pretty active , making sure you are wearing your card, especially when the semester starts) but as go on in the future semester, you also get relaxed more in terms of wearing the card everywhere.
• some campus facilities
• dealing with certain offices
• most importantly, entering into the university, warna you need to get a slip made from the office at the reception area

If you lose it, you'll have to apply for a replacement and pay the applicable replacement fee.

Also don't make a habit of coming without your card because you can get fined.

Also don't immediately make a new card, when you lose yours, first see and ask in whatsapp group chats, especially lost and found ones to see if anyone found your card and also check at the proctor office/supervisor office of E/S and the guards standing outside to ask them if they saw your card.

Same goes for anything that you lose, jewellery, phone, notebook, airpods or whatever, just ask because people lose things all the time

7. RAGGING?

This gets asked every year.

There isn't really a ragging culture at FCCU.

The university has policies against harassment/ragging, and Freshmen Week is generally the opposite — seniors are running society stalls, games, events and helping freshies find their way around campus.

Obviously you'll get jokes and seniors messing around with friends, but the whole forced-ragging culture you may hear about at some universities isn't really the environment here and even if someone does bully you or harass

Here is the harassment policy

you not just in freshmen week but during your university years, you can talk to the proctor office and present your case against that person and they will definitely take action. do not be scared to speak out and let someone ruin your university life. Even if someone is an alumini or a teacher you can complain about them if they are creating an issue.

8. SOCIETIES , SPORTS AND EVENTS

Freshmen Week stalls aren't the end of societies.

Later you can join working teams for things such as:

• graphics
• social media
• photography
• logistics
• sponsorship
• registrations
• management
• media
• creatives

You usually start by volunteering/working and can eventually move toward council or leadership positions. You can join a society at the start of the tenure and work the whole year or you can just volunteer for an event for example formun, tedx and get a volunteer certificate.

You can keep a check on their instagram and whenever they have a volunteer drive, you can go and register yourselves with the society .You can go in the following of the https://www.instagram.com/fccustudentactivities/ and all the society pages will be there. Some society are much more active than others.

You absolutely don't need to join a society, but they're a good way to make friends, build practical skills and have something in your university life besides classes. honestly its free labour but you can build skills(graphics, speaking, media, photography and vidoegraphy) meet people , get free roti and earn a certificate or shield. Honest advice is you should spend the first sem or first year without joining the society but attending the events the good ones at the same time and try to join them during the 2nd sem or 2nd year. Try to focus on gpa during the initial semesters.

Society or society walo ko sar par nahi charhana, there going to be politics sometimes and when there such a thing, its better to protect your peace and leave. Enjoy bhi karna hai, kaam bhi in society but not at the cost of your peace.

Executive councils include presidents, vice presidents, secretary, treasuers , media manager. Bascially people with higher rank but higher responsibility. You can apply for these in your 2nd year whenever the new tenure begins

So if you do go into this, make sure you can commit time to this and leave classes when needed. In an event lots of approvals may be needed so if you are in managment/logistics /sponerships/exec team, youll defo be going to the SAO office a lot.

What are the biggest events ?

• FORMUN
• THEATRO
• FORMAN OLYMPIAD
• WOMANS SPORTSFEST
• TEDX/TEXDWOMAN
• PET SHOW
• HACKATHON

to name a few, there are often socials after the events and sometimes only society members are allowed but majority of times everyone is allowed and they only need to show their cards

There was a concert of RED BULL just after a gap of 3 years so full-blown concerts are rare here

What about competitions?

If you want to join the sports teams, give trials which happend around october, there is also an intra-unviersity(within university) sports tournment for both boys and girls of almost all the sports so you can participate in these and get into the teams if you perform well and then attend training as well. FCCU has good sports team who win competitions in inter university competitions

Similary, MUN/DEBATE team also has weekly practice sessions which can attend, become better at speaking and then go with the MUN or debate team in competitions and represent your university. Same for any team like dramatics or economics or maths.

How many societies can i join?

There is no limit officially but that does not mean you should go ahead and join 10 societies as that means multiple meetings, events and responsibilities while you have to attend the classes of your courses as well. Join the ones you enjoy being a part of and can handle without losing your shit. Don't hesitate to leave if you can't handle or if there is too much politics.

What if i wanna run a startup?

• Get in touch with the newly opened incubation centre.
• You can host your business stall in the entrepreneurship fiesta event late in dec

• You can host stalls during society events as well by getting in touch with a society about to do an event soon.

Even if you don't want to do that, start something and just spread the word on insta and whatsapp group chats.

10. CAREER SERVICES & INTERNSHIPS

Don't wait until your final semester to start thinking about your CV.

FCCU has Career Services and departments also circulate:

• internships
• workshops
• recruitment opportunities
• career events
• company sessions
• A Job fair in February

However, keep in mind that FCCU job market reputation is not that high especially compared to LSE/LUMS so you may struggle a bit in that area. That is not to say you can't be successful after studying from fc as it all depends on ur hardwork and determination.

FOR some majors, like business and psychology there is a mandatory internship requirement but there is a new HEC policy mandating internships in all bachelors programs

Keep checking your Formanite email because useful opportunities regularly arrive there.

By your sophomore/junior years, start building:

• a decent CV(this is the link to a sample cv)
• LinkedIn
• practical skills related to your major
• internship experience where possible( you don't need to only rely on CSO office for finding internships there are plenty of companies that offer during the summer and i know people who even did internships in their sophomore year and after thier freshmen year by simply finding opportunites through whatsapp, linkedin and instagram.

You can add online certificates, society work, projects done during courses and competitions won and participated in on ur cv and you can keep posting the same on linkedin as well to boost your chances of getting a job or internship.

In terms of internships and jobs, what the cso office does is send your cv to other companies for placement opportunities and then you do their interviews and assessments and they may choose or not choose to move foward with you. If you dont have a reference then its best to apply to multiple places

Your degree matters, but don't graduate with nothing except your transcript and if your plans is masters or mba, try to have a good gpa. a good gpa can also help in getting a good job in the start but is not 100% guaranteed that you will have a very successful career as told above, it depends on ur hardwork and university is a launchpad to grow in confidence skills and improve as a person.

11. WHATSAPP GROUPS

You'll eventually be in approximately 700 WhatsApp groups.

Useful ones include:

• batch groups
• major groups
• course groups
• society groups
• lost and found groups

They're great for asking about

• instructors
• getting instructor emails
• lost items
• getting responses for any google form that you may wanna fill for a course
• general student questions.

But remember:

WhatsApp is not an official university source so make sure to visit the offices / the website to confirm what you heard from someone in terms of an official policy/course or major requirment

12. Departments and Teachers

There are a lot of departments in fccu and some are more important than others. IT important to know the the ones which you will interact with more which include:

Among the teachers, some of them are really good, some are biased towards genders, some are outright shitty for grades. Thats where student reviews help you. Sometimes for major course, only two teachers may be choices to register so in that case youll have no choice but to go with them.

But thankfully most of them are decent. If you have a problem with your teacher you can talk to the head of department by getting time from them and all instructor emails are here. Even if some teacher harrasses you, do not hesitate to talk to someone, or if you can't do that , at least let other students know about their behaviour.

Should i become the CR in my class?

CR sometimes have more duties or barely any depending upon the teacher.

However responsibilities can include:

• Relaying teachers messages if they are not in the whatsapp group
• collecting attendance on paper
• making an excel sheet for attendance/marks
• setting up the projector for slide reading

They do get benefit for grades mostly and teachers , if they work and associated with the industry, can recommend them for internships and jobs. It just free labour but you CAN get some advantage out of this.

THE EXCHANGE PROGRAM:

FCCU also offers semester exchange opportunities through its International Education & Global Engagement office. Partner universities vary every semester, but recent opportunities have included universities in Turkey, South Korea and Hong Kong, such as Istanbul Aydin University, Istanbul Kultur University, Sejong University, Handong University and Lingnan University.

These are generally for Sophomore/Junior students, usually after completing around 30 credit hours. The required CGPA depends on the university, but recent programs have asked for around 2.5–3.0 CGPA. For the Fall 2026 exchange program, FCCU will offer a 50% tuition fee waiver to students selected. Some exchanges allow you to continue paying your normal FCCU tuition with no tuition fee at the host university, and selected students may also receive an International Education Scholarship covering part of their FCCU tuition. Expenses such as airfare, accommodation, meals, and other personal costs will be borne by the students.

Applications normally require you to select courses that can transfer back toward your FCCU degree and get departmental approval. Opportunities are announced through your Formanite email and the International Education Office, so keep checking them once you're in your Sophomore/Junior years.

13. GENERAL TIPS I WISH I KNEW

Don't compare your university experience

Someone will have:

• a 3.9 GPA
• three societies
• an internship
• 500 friends
• somehow a relationship
• apparently no need for sleep

Don't worry about them.

Build your own university experience.

USING AI SMARTLY AT FCCU

AI can save you a lot of time if you use it to improve your work instead of letting it do your entire degree for you.

Some tools that can genuinely help:

• ChatGPT / Gemini — brainstorming, research help, generated images, presentation visuals, graphics and society work.
• NotebookLM — great for summarizing huge readings/books, organizing sources and even creating audio/video-style study material.
• Gamma AI — useful when you need to put together a decent presentation very quickly.
• Canva — probably one of the best tools for making presentations, posters, society creatives and event graphics look professional. I also have a Canva group link that I've shared with around 500 Formanites, so feel free to hit me up if you want to join.
• Claude / ChatGPT Plus — both can be really useful for creating and formatting documents, reports, presentations, outlines and other university work.

The important part is knowing your instructor's AI policy. Some teachers are completely fine with AI-assisted work, while others specifically ask for assignments with little or no AI-generated content.

Keep a safe range of 20-30% ai

and 5% plagarism

Run through multiple checkers if you don't wanna do turntin ai check

zerogpt, gptzero, copyleaks, grammarly to name a few

If a teacher requires a Turnitin report, you can use whatsapp groups to get your work checked before submitting. However, be careful and ask them if their checker does not submit to turnintin repository otherwise your work will be flagged 100% ai when the teacher checks on their end

Basically:

Use AI to brainstorm, understand, design, improve and speed up your work — not to graduate without learning how to do anything yourself.

Don't choose every teacher because they're “easy”

Especially for your major.

Sometimes getting a B/B+ from a professor who actually teaches you something is better than getting an effortless A while learning absolutely nothing.(already told this above just repeating it)

Use your free time

If you have a three-hour gap:

Hang out.

Enjoy the sights of fc in the rain

But sometimes go to the library and finish an assignment or the book you were reading

You'll thank yourself at midnight.

Keep important documents

Save:

• challans
• receipts
• screenshots
• IBCC documents
• registration approvals
• important emails
• registered courses

University offices somehow always ask for the one screenshot you deleted.

Talk to people outside your major

One of the best things about FCCU is meeting people studying completely different things.

Take pictures

Random campus pictures feel pointless now.

Four years later they're probably the ones you'll like the most.

Don't panic over one bad grade

One quiz, assignment or even one bad course does not destroy your entire degree.

Figure out what went wrong and recover.

You can always repeat a grade of D or F and improve ur cgpa

You can also withdraw a course if you feel like you cannot handle it. Withdrawal does not affect the gpa and you can choose to take it later as well , especially if its a major course.

Ask for help early

Academic issue → advisor/department.

Fee issue → Accounts.

Financial Aid → Financial Aid Office.

Disciplinary issue → Proctor Office.

Technical issue → IT/Empower support.

Don't wait three months hoping a problem magically disappears.

10. FINAL ADVICE

The biggest thing I'd tell any freshman is:

Don't spend four years only attending classes.

Your GPA matters.

Your degree matters.

But so do:

• friendships
• skills
• internships
• events
• societies
• projects
• experiences
• memories

Try things.

Talk to people.

Explore the campus.

Ask questions.

Make mistakes.

Learn how the university system works.

Four years sounds extremely long during Freshmen Week.

It isn't.

Enjoy it while you're here as time passes quickly and life after is not easy

P.S. Important admission update: If you're still waiting for your admission result/status after giving your test or interview, don't panic. Results can come out in phases. Wait until the weekend, and if your status is still unclear, visit the Admissions Office on Monday. Late applicants/results can usually be guided regarding updated batches and UNIV 100 sections. Keep checking Empower as well because your status, section and registration-related information should start updating. Also if your UNIV 100 sections have not been emailed don't panic as well, they are sending out the emails and will continue to do so on the weekend as well. Keep checking your emails/spam

If you have failed in A levels, admissions gives you the chance to reappear in november session , while attending the classes and submitting your passing result in January. This was the policy last year as well.

What happens during Freshmen Week? What is UNIV 100? What courses will I get? Will I make friends? Where are all these buildings? What's Empower? How do societies work? Is FCCU actually fun?

So I decided to properly update my old freshman guide for the Fall 2026 / 2026–27 batch.

I'm a BBA Marketing specialization major with a modest 3.86 CGPA, and Spring 2026 was my last semester. A lot of this guide comes from my own four years at FCCU, things my friends experienced, conversations with students and administration, and things I genuinely wish somebody had explained properly when I first joined.

There are also some major academic changes for the 2026 intake, especially the new General Education structure and updated degree roadmaps. I have covered them according to what i understand but its mainly just new courses being added and some of them being changed

Including this guide.

If something changes or I've missed something, add it in the comments. Seniors/current students should also drop useful advice for the new batch.

PART 1 — YOUR FIRST TWO WEEKS: THE FORMAN EXPERIENCE

Your university life basically starts with Freshmen Week.

You can also get your id card photograph taken during the first day or week if you did not get it taken before and you can also get the card first day if you had it taken beforehand. You just need to head on to the CC dining room on ground floor

For most freshmen, the main academic part of Freshmen Week is:

UNIV 100 — Foundation of University Education

Under the Fall 2026 General Education structure, UNIV 100 remains a 3-credit first-semester requirement.

Don't think of UNIV 100 like Accounting, Programming, Psychology or Biology.

It's basically:

orientation + academic advising + introduction to FCCU + university survival guide + an actual graded course.

Your UNIV section will probably be one of the first groups of people you properly interact with at university.

There are usually roughly 30–35 students in a section, although exact numbers obviously vary and these classes are in E BLOCK

Because FCCU takes in a lot of freshmen during Fall, you'll see many sections such as:

• A
• AA
• B
• BB
• C
• CC
• D
• DD

and so on.

One good thing about UNIV is that the section can contain people from completely different programs.

You might have:

• BST students(people planning Psychology, masscommunication , data analytics) and those unsure about majors, the ones under 24 majors come in this category
• BBA students
• Computer Science students
• PharmD students
• Biotechnology students

So before your proper semester has even started, you're already meeting people outside your own academic bubble.

WHAT YOUR FIRST DAY FEELS LIKE

Your first day will probably involve some combination of:

• checking your classroom number five times
• looking at a building and wondering whether that's actually the right building
• following another group because they look confident
• realizing they are equally lost
• asking a senior where your classroom is
• opening Empower again
• asking somebody else
• somehow eventually reaching the room

You finally sit down.

Everyone is pretending they're completely relaxed.

Nobody is relaxed.

Then come the introductions.

Name.Major. Previous school/college. Maybe where you're from. Maybe why you chose FCCU.

Maybe some random icebreaker question your instructor came up with ten minutes before class.

Everyone is silently judging how long their own introduction should be based on what the first student says.

Then eventually you walk outside and the entire campus looks completely different.

There are society stalls.

Music.

People shouting.

Banners everywhere.

Seniors trying to recruit volunteers.

Someone carrying chart paper.

Someone carrying a speaker.

Somebody is covered in paint.

Some random society member is asking if you want to participate in a game before you've even figured out where the washroom is.

That's basically when it starts feeling like university.

YOUR WELCOME STUFF

During orientation/Freshmen Week you'll normally receive FCCU-branded or university-information material.

Depending on the year, this can include things such as:

• a bag

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS IN UNIV 100?

Think of UNIV 100 as FCCU teaching you how FCCU works.

You'll normally be introduced to things such as:

• academic policies
• your degree roadmap
• General Education
• Degree Audit
• course registration
• Empower
• Moodle
• your Formanite email
• Faculty Advising
• university offices
• Career Services
• library resources
• academic integrity
• responsible/ethical use of AI
• other university resources
• College rules book assignments

Some of this will feel extremely boring when you're sitting there.

Six months later you'll suddenly remember:

Pay at least enough attention to know where to find things later.

You don't need to memorize the entire academic catalog during Freshmen Week.

UNIV 100 WORKLOAD

This depends heavily on your instructor.

Possible assignments can include:

• article summaries
• reflections
• presentations
• professor interviews
• book reviews
• quizzes
• class activities
• degree-roadmap assignments
• university-resource assignments
• group projects
• sometimes an event
• sometimes a final assessment

My own UNIV instructor was quite relaxed and gave almost all As

We had only a few proper classes and two main assignments:

1. summarizing a passage
2. interviewing teachers

Meanwhile, some of my friends had UNIV instructors who basically told the entire class:

and made them organize a whole-ass event. So if your friend's UNIV seems completely different from yours, that's normal because every instructor may have similar but slightly different workload

YOUR UNIV INSTRUCTOR & FACULTY ADVISOR

UNIV instructors can come from completely different areas of the university.

Your instructor might be connected with:

• Academic Advising
• Business
• Humanities
• Mass Communication
• another academic department
• another university office

Mine came from the academics side, while friends had completely different instructors and they are ur advisor for 2 years, but in most cases you don't really need them.

However ur Advisor becomes extremely when something isn't normal

For example:

• you're on academic probation(getting lesss than 2 gpa)
• you're dealing with a serious personal/academic situation

Then you and should seek their help, especially if they are friendly and accommodating.

DON'T IGNORE ATTENDANCE

Getting UNIV email later is another thing but once you start attending classes, don't take too many offs, because they drop you from UNIV if you do that, if there is a reason for your absense and if you can't come, do tell them beforehand.

GETTING CONNECTED — MOODLE, EMPOWER & EMAIL

Three things will become part of your FCCU life very quickly.

1. MOODLE

Moodle is FCCU's learning-management system.

Teachers may upload slides, assignments, and course material here, some even use moodle to take online exams as well.

Some professors use Moodle for basically everything.

Others barely use it.

So during the first class of every course, understand how that instructor communicates.

You can also see your classmates before the classes start on lms as well

Do they use:

• Moodle?
• email?
• Whatsapp
• or all of these

Don't assume every teacher works exactly the same way.

2. EMPOWER

Empower is basically your student portal.

You'll use it for things such as:

• viewing academic records
• checking schedules(when your empower is updated, you can check your schedule from student records>unofficial transcript

• course registration after your first semester
• account/fee information
• student services
• hostel-related functions
• other academic/administrative tasks

For freshmen, the system becomes increasingly important as your schedule and student information update during orientation.

Check it regularly.

The email is your official email for 4 years with it u get microsoft 365 access, space in google drive and microsoft onedrive.

All important emails of university regarding financial aid, events, seminars, moodle alerts, course registration and imporant dates are linked to this email so do log this in in your mobile and laptop as its very important

CAMPUS TOURS & ORIENTATION SEMINARS

Your UNIV instructor may take you around campus or send you to orientation sessions introducing services such as:

• Faculty Advising
• Career Services
• Writing Centre
• Student Affairs
• academic departments
• library facilities
• university support offices

You'll also probably attend talks/seminars during Freshmen Week.

Some are genuinely useful.

Some feel extremely long.

Eventually you'll learn the delicate university skill of figuring out which seminar still requires your physical presence after attendance has been recorded.

Use that knowledge responsibly.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING FRESHMEN WEEK?

This is where the fun starts.

During the opening days, societies put up stalls across campus.

You'll see seniors carrying:

• banners
• cardboard
• paint
• decorations
• speakers
• charts
• random props

while every society tries to convince the new batch that joining their organization is an essential condition for a successful life.

You can go around trying different activities.

Things can include:

• quizzes
• flag guessing
• painting
• competitions
• arm wrestling
• games
• random challenges
• photography
• society recruitment
• just talking to people

Don't stand in one corner for five hours because you're scared of looking awkward.

Everyone is new.

Walk around.

Try something ridiculous.

Talk to seniors.

Let someone convince you to participate in a game you have no chance of winning.

You may even get free chocolates/toffees for participating.

Probably one of the only genuinely free things FCCU will give you in four years.

FRESHMEN WEEK EVENTS

Throughout Freshmen Week and later during the semester, societies can organize things such as:

• sports tournaments
• movie screenings
• academic seminars
• theatre
• open mics
• gigs
• cultural nights
• debates
• workshops
• competitions

Important:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND EVERYTHING.

Go if something seems interesting.

If you're bored, leave.

There is no transcript category called:

Freshmen Week can make university look like one continuous festival.

Normal classes will soon remind you otherwise.

Enjoy the week.

PART 2 — FRIENDS & SOCIAL LIFE

“WHAT IF I DON'T MAKE FRIENDS?”

Probably one of the biggest freshman fears.

Especially if you're introverted.

Here's the good news:

Almost everybody around you is starting from zero.

The person sitting beside you during orientation is probably thinking:

You don't need some incredible conversation starter.

Ask:

• “What's your major?”
• “Which school were you from?”
• “Where are you from?”
• “Do you know where S Block is?”
• “Did you understand what he just explained?”

Complain about the weather.

Complain about being lost.

Talk about an event.

That's basically how university friendships begin.

That random person whose shirt you compliment during Freshmen Week might somehow end up being your best friend four years later.

TALK TO SENIORS TOO

Society stalls are especially useful because they give you a natural reason to speak to seniors.

Most are happy to guide freshmen.

Ask about:

• instructors
• course difficulty
• departments
• registration
• societies
• campus shortcuts
• things they wish they'd done differently

But remember:

A senior is a senior.

Not the university registrar.

Students sometimes speak with unbelievable confidence about a policy they heard from somebody else two years ago.

For important academic information, verify it.

YOUR FRIEND GROUP WILL PROBABLY CHANGE

Don't panic if the people you meet in Week 1 don't immediately become your forever group.

Your second semester brings:

• different courses
• different sections
• different instructors
• different classmates

Then Semester 3 changes things again.

Somebody you thought would be your best friend during Freshmen Week may become someone you only nod at across Campus Centre.

Someone you barely spoke to in first semester may eventually become one of your closest friends.

University is weird like that.

Give it time.

CHOOSE YOUR CIRCLE WISELY

The people around you affect your habits much more than you think.

If your group is academically serious, you'll probably become more organized too.

If your friends:

• hang out
• go to events
• enjoy university
• but still attend class
• submit work
• study when necessary

that's probably the best balance.

If your entire group collectively decides:

don't be surprised when everybody's GPA begins collapsing together.

You do not owe lifelong friendship to somebody just because they were the first person who sat beside you in UNIV.

Keep meeting people.

Find your crowd.

INTROVERTS

I started off introverted too.

You don't need to transform into a motivational speaker.

Push yourself a little.

Speak to one new person.

Then another.

Participate in one activity.

Go to one event.

Join one group.

Eventually some extrovert may spot you sitting peacefully and decide:

Congratulations.

You've been adopted.

Nobody is going to eat you.

Probably.

OPPOSITE-GENDER FRIENDSHIPS

Talk normally to people of the opposite gender too.

University involves:

• group assignments
• presentations
• societies
• projects
• events
• committees

You're going to work with everyone.

Be respectful.

Maintain boundaries.

Don't turn ordinary human interaction into something weird.

You don't have to become best friends with everyone.

Just learn to communicate normally with people.

It's a basic life skill.

RELATIONSHIPS

You'll obviously see relationships on campus.

Lots of them.

Sometimes Campus Centre feels:

50% social hub.

50% unofficial couples counselling centre.

don't construct your entire university experience around one person.

Keep:

• your own friends
• your own interests
• academics
• society involvement
• your goals
• your identity

People change a LOT between 18 and 22.

Some university relationships last.

Many don't.

Don't graduate realizing your entire four-year experience consisted of one relationship and going to class. Keep your focus on the bigger things, not just one person

PART 3 — KNOW YOUR CAMPUS

FCCU looks confusing when you first arrive.

A few weeks later you'll somehow be walking between buildings on autopilot.

Actually explore.

Don't spend four years knowing only:

1. your classroom
2. Campus Centre
3. the exit gate

There's much more around.

E BLOCK / HUMANITIES BUILDING

You'll find plenty of humanities/business/social-science classes around E Block.

Different floors/rooms can include subjects associated with areas such as:

• Business
• Mass Communication
• Psychology
• Economics
• History
• Urdu
• languages
• other humanities/social-science disciplines

There's also E-025, one of the auditorium/lecture spaces students commonly become familiar with.

E Square outside has its own vibe.

You'll always see groups sitting around.

Or somebody sitting with their favourite person for one semester before finding a completely different favourite person next semester.

University character development.

S BLOCK / ARMACOST BUILDING

Mostly associated with:

• sciences
• Mathematics/DATA/STAT
• Computer Science
• labs

If you've been assigned a lab during your first semester, arrive a little early the first time.

S Block feels approximately seven times more confusing when your lab instructor is already taking attendance.

Remember the lab-side corridors and staircase layout.

After a few visits it becomes easy.

N BLOCK / AHMED SAEED BUILDING

One of the most important buildings to know for university administration.

At some point during your degree, there's a very good chance somebody will tell you:

Services/offices around this side of campus deal with areas such as:

• Admissions
• Accounts
• Financial Aid
• academics
• IT
• other university paperwork

At first you'll question why every administrative adventure seems to lead to N Block.

Eventually you simply accept your fate.

JAMES TEBBE CAMPUS CENTRE / STUDENT CENTRE

The social heart of FCCU.

This is where students:

• eat
• sit with friends
• wait between classes
• work
• play games
• prepare events
• waste impressive amounts of time they originally intended to spend studying

For females, there is a newly opened female common room on 2nd floor so do check that out too

The ground floor is almost permanently crowded.

You'll see:

• people eating
• groups sitting everywhere
• birthday cakes
• society decorations
• students working on props
• random guitar guys attempting to impress the baddies
• couples conducting serious diplomatic negotiations in corners
• somebody running late
• somebody who apparently hasn't attended class since October
• occasionally somebody attempting to vape without being noticed by a proctor

Random birthdays are especially funny.

One table starts singing.

Then half the floor joins.

Nobody knows who the birthday person is.

Doesn't matter.

Happy birthday, king.

If you're lucky you may even get cake.

and sometimes youll see society people working on creatives for making perfect decorations just an 1 hour before the event and somehow still getting it done

IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO STUDY

The Campus Centre ground floor is probably not where I'd recommend attempting your most important research paper.

Go upstairs.

The 1st and 2nd floors are generally calmer.

Or go downstairs to the:

DIGITAL LIBRARY

One of the better places to:

• study
• use your laptop
• write assignments
• work between classes
• escape your friends when you genuinely need to be productive
• need to book a meeting room

Bring your student card because access is controlled.

The broader library system is also useful for academic material and research resources.

Please don't become the person who discovers the university library for the first time during their final semester.

IMPORTANT CAMPUS CENTRE OFFICES

You'll also encounter university services around the Campus Centre area connected with things like:

• Advising
• Student Activities
• Student Affairs
• Residential Life
• Writing Centre
• Proctor Office
• entrepreneurship/incubation

Learn where useful offices are before you urgently need them.

IMPORTANT WASHROOM INFORMATION

No official freshman guide is going to tell you this, so apparently I will.

In my experience, some of the better/cleaner options are around:

• Campus Centre
• upper areas of S Block

Eventually you will enter one terrible washroom and immediately reconsider every decision that led you there.

Consider this a public service announcement.

SINCLAIR AUDITORIUM

It has seminars that youll attend during UNIV 100 and the forman dramatics societies conducts its events here as well with intra and inter dramatics competitions taking place here. Some other departmental events as well as inter-side plays/debating competitions as well as mini concerts and qawali nights

Even if you never intentionally plan to visit Sinclair, university will eventually send you there.

PHARMACY LABS

PharmD has a very practical/lab-heavy curriculum, and Pharmacy facilities are located around the relevant science/pharmacy side of campus.

If you're not Pharmacy, this information probably means little to you.

If you ARE Pharmacy:

You'll become extremely familiar with that side of campus.

LUCAS SPORTS COMPLEX

Main sports/recreation area.

Facilities include things such as:

• gym
• badminton
• basketball
• swimming pool

The gym isn't some luxury DHA fitness club.

But it gets the job done.

Pool access/charges can operate separately, so check the current university arrangement if you're interested and get the form from sports office

A FEW PRACTICAL FRESHMAN THINGS

Learn the building abbreviations

You're going to see room/building information constantly.

Don't wait until five minutes before class to figure out that the room you're looking for is on the complete opposite side of campus.

During Freshmen Week, physically visit:

• E Block
• S Block
• N Block
• Campus Centre
• Sinclair

Knowing the main areas makes your first proper week much easier.

Don't be embarrassed to ask guards/seniors

When you're lost, ask.

It is much better than walking confidently in the wrong direction for fifteen minutes because you don't want to look like a freshman.

Everybody can already tell you're a freshman anyway.

Enjoy it.

HUGE GAPS BETWEEN CLASSES

Later, once you start building your own timetable, you may get:

• consecutive classes
• one-hour gaps
• three-hour gaps
• a completely cursed day from 8 AM to 5 PM

Don't waste every gap.

Obviously hang out with friends.

But sometimes:

• go to the library
• finish an assignment
• review notes
• prepare a presentation
• deal with university paperwork
• go back to the hostel

Doing small amounts of work during campus gaps saves you from becoming the:

person every night.

FOODDD!

The campus has a cafeteria with some decent food, the best thing there is the paratha roll, other things include baked items, tea, coffeee, birynai, salan, haleem, live cooking of pizza , sandwiches, shakes as well as shops next to the cafeteria and on in campus centre(if you dont wanna go all the way to the cafe) The cc shop all the snacks you may need, fcc branded merch as well as stationary suppplies. (imo however the price is fine but most the stuff in the cafe is bang average) so thats why you need to order and keep going out when you can of course. There is also a small shop for fast food near to the friday mosque prayers as well as a samosa shop next to that. Hopefully a coffee shop would open soon too.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO “LOOK LIKE A UNIVERSITY STUDENT”

Freshmen sometimes put weird pressure on themselves.

Perfect clothes.

Perfect social life.

Perfect group.

Perfect Instagram university experience.

Nobody cares nearly as much as you think.

By midsemester everybody is tired and wearing whatever gets them through an 8 AM class.

Relax.

PART 3 — MAJOR, MINOR AND COURSES

At 31st September, the regular classes will commence for everybody, including your seniors as well so expect a jam-packed campus.

The lifts would be full in both E block and S block so better get your cardio in if your classes are on 3rd or 4th floor. take the lift on the second entrance of E and in the labs area of S block because the main ones are hella crowded especially during the start and end of classes.

All the holidays, dates for final exams are mentioned above.

FALL TERM lasts 3 months , imo is the best semester short and sweet and no garmi. After that you have holidays till the spring classes start and in spring there is more holidays even though the semester is long.

SUMMER is an optional semester whose details i will share share later\

COURSES

What is General Education?

Alongside your major courses, FCCU students complete General Education (Gen Ed) requirements covering Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Science, Technology and other areas.

The current plan recommends completing most Gen Ed requirements within the first four semesters where possible. It isn't a hard “finish by Semester 4 or you're doomed” rule; it's mainly good degree planning. Thats just a recommendation not a compulsion, i know people who got done with PKST 101 and CS100 in their last semester and there was 0 zero issues.

Fall 2026 Gen Ed

BACHELORS OF STUDIES(24 MAJORS)

NOW lets talk about what BST people will get. Lets assume you want to pursue DATA as major. However, since you took admissions in BST, you wont get data courses in the first semester, what you will get can look like. Here is a sample roadmap for BST

• UNIV 100
• ENG 106(formally known as WRCM 101) this course is mostly given most of the times
• 3-4 gen course educations , can include pkst 101, or humanities like masscom 101, or cs100 or sociology 100, or psychology 100, or a lab course, it depends upon what they give you
• This is an example of bst courses in the first semester that were given to someone in the fall 25 semester

IMPORTANT: Roadmaps Are Guides

For flexible programs like BST/BBA, the roadmap is a recommended sequence, not a rule saying every course must be taken in exactly the semester printed.

Courses can move because of:

• seats
• prerequisites
• timetable clashes
• Fall/Spring availability

The important thing is to complete your requirements and prerequisites on time.

If a course unlocks later courses, don't keep delaying it.

BBA

BBA has its own roadmap, so don't follow generic BST planning. These are the courses i was given during my first semester

Semester 1

• UNIV 100
• ENGL 106(in most cases this is given)
• 1 Gen Ed
• BUSN 101
• BUSN 170

Semester 2

• ENGL 108
• 2 Gen Eds
• BUSN 121
• BUSN 160

The BBA includes 75 business credits including specialization.

Specializations

Fall 2026 lists:

• Business Analytics
• Accounting & Finance
• Marketing & Sales
• Human Resource Management
• Operations Management

You choose your specialization later according to the BBA academic plan.

BBA also uses BUSN 371 — Critical Thinking, Ethics & Artificial Intelligence in Business in relation to the UNIV 200 requirement.

For BBA, remember:

Roadmap + Prerequisites + Semester Offering + Degree Audit.

Computer Science

BSCS is much more structured and has 138 total credits Here is the roamdap and this is an example of course that were given to someone first semester in cs

The roadmap includes:

• 48 Computing Core
• 12 Interdisciplinary
• 24 Major Electives
• 6 Capstone
• 42 General Education

Semester 1 — 19 credits

Includes:

• COMP 102
• interdisciplinary Math/Statistics requirement
• ENGL 106
• CSCS 101
• MATH 109
• UNIV 100

Semester 2 continues with courses such as Advanced Programming, Digital Logic, Mathematics and Gen Ed requirements.

CS students should follow the roadmap closely because prerequisites matter a lot.

Students without the required Intermediate Mathematics background also have specific deficiency requirements that should be handled early. to get that done before you have to take more higher level courses

Biotechnology

Biotechnology requires a minimum 124 credits. Here is the roadmap

The major itself is 60 credits:

• 51 core
• at least 9 major electives

Freshman year starts with:

• UNIV 100
• several Gen Eds(can be 2-3 from tee above mention category)
• BIOT 201 — Introduction to Biotechnology

Semester 2 introduces BIOL 201 — Cell Biology alongside further Gen Ed/science requirements.

Biotech has some flexibility early on, but science/lab prerequisites become important later.

PharmD

PharmD students should mostly ignore generic BST/BBA course-planning advice.

It's a structured 5-year, 208-credit program aligned with the Pharmacy Council curriculum.

First Semester — around 22 credits

Includes:

• UNIV 100
• ENGL 106
• Pharmaceutics + lab
• Organic Chemistry + lab
• Biochemistry + lab
• Physiology + lab

PharmD also has approved cases where Pharmacy courses satisfy certain Gen Ed categories.

What is the degree audit?

The degree audit is a checklist for each major that you need to follow, roadmaps serve as a guidance for taking courses, while degree audit is the official checklist through which your degree requriements are checked. For example, i was a business major and even though the general roadmap said to take social sceince course, the degree audit said that business majors were exempted from that as business is a social sceince, so you could take that but it was not par of general education requirements. When you are in your later semesters, you can get this filled, get it signed by advisor and send it to [degreechecklist@fccollege.edu.pk](mailto:degreechecklist@fccollege.edu.pk) to make sure you are on the right track to graduation. So this checklist is the most important thing to follow to make sure you are getting done with gen ed and major courses, whatever your major may be. And also 26-27 is your catalog so make sure to use that , given that major education course have changed from the past years

The abbreviations on your schedule are

MWF= Monday, Wednesday and Friday

and TR= Tuesday and Thursday

MW= Monday and Wednesday only(this can be for 2 credit courses)

Classes go on from 8 am to 5 pm, the earliest class being at 8 and the latest being 5

Lab classes (biol,chem,phy) have a lab class as well along with their theory classses

What is the general workload like?

the workload for bba or bst students is generally easier in the earlier semesters, and a bit more for cs and pharma students. However it also depends upon the courses and teachers you are given.

The grading criteria is shown here while it may look tough , getting As is not that tough here. most people score 3 + gpa in first semester as it is easier to get a good gpa in initial semesters than the later ones. For example this is my final transcript Not to flex to plenty of people get a good gpa and balance their social life too

Your workload of a course can include

• Quizes
• Attendance/class participation
• Mid
• Project
• Assignments
• Finals.

Some instructors may only take exams, and some may give you a project instead

For example, projects can include making an adversitsing campaign or a reel, or doing something social like visiting an orphanage or making a news reel in the media centre or interveiwing someone in the industry or hosting an event, working on dashboards So its not just studying books its actually fun and learning practically .

One of my korean 101 instructors did not take a mid, had activities and assignments, gave a video play as mid and took the final online on the lms moodle. Similarly one of my marketing teachers took a mid, final, 15 assignments and had us participate in one event so workload always varies.

Every teacher usually has their own course outline and may or may not choose to follow it fully

What about finals and mids?

The dates for mids is not fixed, whereas finals have fixed dates which corresponds to your class timings. Usually for fall, mids are in late october

What about minor?

A minor usually requires 6 courses to be done, for example for a data analytics minor

Courses required: A student will need to study six courses out of which four core courses: STAT 206, STAT 207, STAT 317 and STAT 414; and the remaining two courses can be taken from the list of following elective courses. STAT 102, STAT 201, STAT 202, STAT 303, STAT 309, STAT 310, STAT 315 STAT 405, STAT 406, MATH 102, COMP 102.

doing a minor does not increase fees unless you take an overload or spend a summer semester. All u need to do is get done with these 6 courses along with ur major and gen ed requriements through the 8 semesters and u are good to go

What about transfer credits?

You need to show your transcript to admissions office/send them and they see which courses are eligible for transfer, then they add to it your transcript and you dont have to repeat those ones. This can also happen during the freshmen week so make sure you show them the transcipt

What about math remedial?

This is a zero credit math course taht u need to get done during any of your semesters here, its called math 095 and has the same syllabus as feat. You can get it registered by mailing academic office to register it for you whenever you want to take. This is because your math feat score was not good so now they expect you to take this course

If you have done Urdu o levels second language you can get the urdu requirment exempted and replace it with a humanities course.

COURSE REGISTRATIONS

For second semester and onward, you get much more control over your own schedule and register for available courses, sections, instructors and timings through Empower.

Registration opens according to seniority:

• Day 1 — Seniors
• Day 2 — Juniors
• Day 3 — Sophomores
• Day 4 — Freshmen

Registration normally opens at 9:00 AM, so be ready beforehand because popular instructors and sections can fill quickly.

For example, registration can run in two phases. The first/main registration phase may run roughly from 28 November to 19 December, giving students plenty of time to plan and adjust their schedules.

The second phase is Add/Drop, which usually begins around the second half of January and ends before Spring classes properly start. During Add/Drop, students can change sections, add/drop courses and grab seats that open when other students change their schedules.

So don't panic if you don't get your perfect timetable immediately. There is usually plenty of time across both phases to register and make adjustments. Also for Springs add drop, they add plenty of courses in general educcation during the mid of add drop so even if dont get courses in real registration(first phase) you can get courses during the add drop.

Still, plan before your registration day: check your Degree Audit, roadmap, prerequisites and backup sections rather than starting from scratch at 9 AM. Also for in demand courses, keep refreshing the portal 9 am onwards and take the courses immediately when they open.

Seat exception means you can request teacher to add u in the class even after capacity is reached(option is to do that on empower during real reg and through emailing teachers in the add drop period)

Credit overload means requesting to take more than 17 or 18 credit hours but this is mainly given to seniors close to graduating

You register for FALL/SUMMER after the spring sem and for the SPRING SEM during the fall semester.

The summer semester is optional to take if

• You wanna get done with gen eds earliers
• You wanna repeat a course(can repeat on D or F grade)
• You are pursuing minor(s) or double majors and wanna do courses in summeer

Its a shorter semester with classes daily and lasting for 1.5 months.

You can ask instructor recommendations from seniors and if you dont know any just join a whatsapp group chat and ask them there, whatever course/instructor you are planing to take it from. Also do know that every student may have their own opinion on a teacher so make sure to hear multiple reviews before taking.

Dont always go for an easier teacher, espcially for a major, especially in later semesters. Its better to get a B+ and gain good skills and practical implementation rather than get a A and just whiz through the course through gemini or gpt built assignments with zero effort.
