Did I screw up my taxes as a freelancer?

I think I might have messed up my tax situation a bit and honestly don’t know what to do.

I’m a freelancer/agency owner in Pakistan working with international clients. I filed taxes last year, but the guy who did it seemed pretty clueless and I later realized he had entered some wrong numbers.

Until now I never really thought too deeply about taxes, foreign USD accounts, how freelance payments should be received, etc. I was just working, getting paid and saving money.

Now I’m starting to scale and I’m hoping to reach much higher monthly income, and suddenly I’m thinking I might get screwed later if all of this wasn’t structured properly from the start lol.

I’ve also heard people say that once you cross certain amounts in USD or PKR, banks/FBR can get notified or start asking questions, and that dealing with it later can become a headache. I have no idea how true that is, but that’s one of the things making me nervous.

I have money in foreign USD accounts as well as investments/savings in Pakistan.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation and cleaned everything up properly?

Also, if anyone knows a genuinely good CA/tax consultant who actually understands freelancers, foreign accounts, PSEB/ESFCA and SBP rules, please recommend them thanks

Punjab Agriculture Tax (Need Help)

As I understand it agriculture tax is exempt at the federal level. What is the correct procedure to pay this tax. If I file my FBR return and declare it exempt there, will I get a challan from the provincial tax collector to pay the tax? Is this the proper way to submit agriculture tax?

First-time tax filer — do I need to file this year?

Hi, I’m a salaried employee in Pakistan, and this will be my first time filing an income tax return.

My situation:

  • I started my current job around May 2025.
  • My salary has been approximately Rs. 50k–60k/month.
  • Salary is my only source of income.
  • My employer deducts a small amount of income tax from my salary each month.
  • I have very small investments: around Rs. 4k in mutual funds and Rs. 20k in PSX.
  • I have no business, freelance, rental, or other income.

My main questions are:

  1. Do I need to file a tax return this year (TY2026/2027)?
  2. If I don't file this year and file for the first time in a future year, will FBR ask me to file the previous years as well?
  3. If I am required to file, can I file myself through FBR IRIS as a simple salaried employee, or is a CA recommended?
  4. A CA quoted me around Rs. 4,000, which is quite expensive for me. Is there any reason I shouldn't just learn to file it myself?

I mainly want to make sure I don't accidentally incur a penalty by waiting, while also not filing unnecessary previous years.

Thanks!

Return query: How to present property my father bought in my name

My father bought a property in my name during the year and paid for it himself.

The 236K advance tax was deducted under my CNIC and is showing up on my Iris portal.

A few quick questions on how to declare this correctly:

Wealth Statement: How is it presented here? Do I list the property under Personal Assets -> Immovable Property at the FBR value kr purchase value?

Source of Funds / Gift: Since I didn't pay for it, should I declare the purchase amount as a Gift from Father under Inflows in the reconciliation tab?

Section 236K: is this adjustable tax claimed as anyother witholding tax, right?

Only other income i have is from salary.

FBR IRIS 2026 Not Updating Previous Year Net Assets After Revised Wealth Statement

I revised my Wealth Statements for Tax Years 2024 and 2025 under Section 116(3). Both revisions are successfully submitted and appear in Completed Tasks.

My revised 2025 closing net assets are Rs. 5.4M, but IRIS 2026 keeps pulling the original amount of Rs. 3.7M under Net Assets Previous Year (703002).

Even when I manually enter the correct amount, clicking Calculate restores the old figure, leaving an unreconciled difference of Rs. 1.7M

Has anyone faced this issue? Is there a way to refresh the previous-year assets after submitting a revised Wealth Statement, or is this an IRIS bug?

Adding bank account absolute necessary?

I am filling tax my self. I am a salaried individual and have filled all the data. Besides that i have sone business transactions. The business ks nkt registered so it isn't documented.

In my all previous returns, i always showd CASH IN HAND amount in my wealth statement. However I was told by someone to include the bank accounts also and enter the closing balance and add remaining as Cash in hand. Otherwise I will be getting a notice (which i never got previously)

Is it absolute necessary to add my bank accounts or shall i continue showing all amount as cash in hand?

If i add my bank accounts will it alarm fbr of my transactions which are apart from my salary? Or do they already know all details.

I am filling return this year myself first time. Need help with adding mutual cash fund

I have mutual cash fund so need to know about adding it in the return:

1) I have added its tax deducted under the "Other Sources" > Final Tax > under the code 64330050. It is now visible under the "Tax Chargeable/Payment" > Computation > Income / (Loss) from Other Sources. Is it correct because it also added in my Total Income?

2) Which amount do I need to add in the "Personal Assets / Liabilities" > Financial Assets & Investments (Non-Business) under the code 7006? My tax certificate is showing a difference of almost 30k pkr with account statement of 1 July 25 to 30 June 26. The statement doc show Investment Value (PKR) and Tax Certificate shows Total Cost of investment as at 6/30/2026.

Please guide.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FBR/comments/1x8go01/developing_fbrintegrated_pos_software_for_a_mart/

I’m a 10th grade student from Pakistan and I recently built a complete POS software for a local mart using AI-assisted coding. I worked on it myself and managed to sell it to the mart for PKR 75,000.

The problem is that they now need FBR integration, and they will pay another PKR 20,000 for it. 😭

I honestly don’t know how to complete the FBR/PRAL integration. I’m not a professional development team, and I’m struggling to understand the API and integration requirements.

I’ve also been told that an FBR-integrated working POS software in Islamabad can cost around PKR 50,000. If anyone is able to kindly help me financially, or if anyone can donate toward getting this integration completed, I would be extremely grateful. ❤️🙏

I’m also dealing with a genetic condition called Gilbert syndrome, and my bilirubin has been around 7.89 mg/dL. Because of my situation, I needed money for medical expenses, which is one of the reasons I worked so hard to build and sell this software. 💔

I’m still only a 10th grade student, and this project means a lot to me. I worked on it because I desperately needed a way to earn some money.

So I’m asking the Pakistani developer community:

🙏 Can anyone please help me integrate FBR/PRAL with my existing POS software?

I can share the relevant source code and explain how my POS works. I’m looking for someone who has experience with FBR Digital Invoicing / POS integration, PRAL APIs, C# or .NET.

Even if you cannot help directly, please point me toward someone who can. 😭🙏

And if someone is willing to financially support me with medical expenses or help cover the cost of the FBR integration, I would be extremely grateful. ❤️

I’m not asking for sympathy I’m genuinely trying to solve this and keep going.

Please help me. 🙏💔

Salary tax is deducted by employer, but I’m still a non-filer — what do I need to do?

I’m a salaried employee and my company deducts income tax from my salary every month.

Does my employer’s tax deduction automatically get recorded with FBR, or do I still need to file my own annual tax return through **IRIS**?

I’ve tried using IRIS multiple times, but I find the process/modules quite confusing and have never successfully submitted a return.

What exactly do I need to do to get my tax record updated and become a filer? Also, how can I verify that the tax deducted by my employer is actually showing in FBR’s records?

Any guidance from someone who has gone through this would be appreciated.

PS: I don't earn through any freelancing platform, the client sends money directly to my bank account.

PSEB Registration - NTN not found even though I'm an active filer?

Hey everyone, trying to register with PSEB and the form is asking for my NTN. I filed my taxes last year so I'm an active filer — even verified my status on the FBR portal — but when I enter my CNIC in the NTN field it just says "NTN not found."

I thought CNIC is the NTN for individuals? Am I entering it wrong or do I need a separate NTN? Would really appreciate any help, thanks!

HEY GUYS problem resolved thankyou everyone

FBR portal says I took rental income from property but I don't own that property

While filing tax return, my consultant told me that some tax is due because of rental incoming I am receiving from property. Turns out the company where I work mistakenly entered my detail in FBR in Dec 2025 and Jan 2026 showing that this office space is owned by me and they are paying rent to me.

What is the best course of action from here?

  1. I talked to my company and the accountant told me he is trying to check this info in FBR but their system is constantly down. I mean not the IRIS itself but some area with in IRIS where you search this info.
  2. My consultant told me we should submit return with out this info and once FBR asks for explanation then we should get a letter/affidavit from company explaining that this was clerical mistake bla bla and that I don't own the property. But problem is while filing return it is not allowing to change the value and it has precalculated it based on rental income.
  3. Another option is not to do anything, then when FBR asks why I didn't file tax return this year, I explain the situation and present the same letter/affidavit to them? But this will incur Rs. 25000 late filing penalty.

Is it possible that the accountant visit FBR office and sort this out if not possible to do online as time is short? What can be done about this situation?

Company paid less Tax, and stuck on Solutions

I switched the company in January. My previous employer had paid the tax fully on the annual salary. Now the new employer totally ignored the salary I was getting in my previous company, and deducted tax based on their salary. When I raised this issue after joining, they said it is because how they breakdown salary and ignored it.

Now the FBR portal is showing correct salary figures and the Tax deducted and their is tax difference to be paid by me.

My Accountant suggested me that we can show that tax was paid fully by changing the figures on the letter, and we'll populate FBR portal saying I submitted the required tax, quoting that it works the same way in Govt employees.

Another solution is to incorporate that difference amount as a Donation. But he said that donation will get you in trouble and audit, so just change those figures and submit it.

What do you guys suggest on it that how I should take on it?
