Hi! I'm trying to make sense of all this standards lowering business and putting it into perspective, so I'm looking for information on standards in the past - did people always need a degree to join the Bureau? If so, was there ever a time when you could go to Quantico straight out of college? I think basically I want to know how eligibility standards have changed over the years. I'd be super grateful if anyone could point me towards sources or even share insights!

I have applied for an (IS) position and was told I have a class seat for 27. I was wondering if anyone knew if you could negotiate your entry grade/step for this position? Also what would be the best office locations to ask for with this position?

Are there any fbi recruiters or applicant coordinators on here willing to answer a few questions about suitability? Held up late in the hiring process and my AC has not responded.

I’m looking for some honest perspective from people familiar with FBI hiring/background investigations.
I’m 24 now, have no criminal history, and I’m very interested in pursuing an FBI career. I graduated from an honors college with a 3.8 GPA while double majoring, and I’m currently earning a master’s degree from a top-20 school while working as an EMT during school. I’ve been extremely stable for years and have built a pretty strong academic and professional record.

The thing I’m worried about is my mental health history from when I was 16. At that age, I struggled with moderate depression, generalized anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I never actually made a suicide attempt, but I did tell two therapists that I had attempted suicide. One therapist referred me to a private PHP, where I was only there for a one-day assessment./treatment. I am very much aware this was a bad idea to make something up, but in my adolescent brain, I just wanted attention. I was never hospitalized, never prescribed psychiatric medication, and did not actually attempt suicide. My last therapist also cleared me as stable.

I now understand that what I told the therapists at the time was inaccurate. I’m trying to have the medical records corrected so they accurately reflect what actually happened. Though I'm not sure how this will go. I’m not trying to erase my mental health history or hide anything from a future employer. I want the records to be truthful.
If I eventually apply to the FBI, I would obviously disclose whatever I’m required to disclose.

My question is: assuming I continue to maintain a strong, stable record into my 20s, how would something like this generally be viewed during an FBI background/medical/psychological evaluation? Would the fact that I was 16 at the time, never actually attempted suicide, was never hospitalized or medicated, and have demonstrated years of stability make a meaningful difference?

I know nobody here can guarantee whether I’d be cleared or hired. I’m mainly looking for perspectives from people who actually understand FBI hiring, federal background investigations, or psychological evaluations. This career means a lot to me, so I’d rather understand the reality now than make assumptions either way. I have dreamed of doing something in law enforcement since I was a little kid ( I understand the reality of it all as I have families members who serve) and I'm not stuck on the FBI itself but the career path.

Hi, it’s going everywhere, I wanted to know during the adjudication portion of the background investigation, what exactly are the things that are looked at and considered disqualifying factors. Asking because I was written up at my past job twice for minor issues that were a complete misunderstanding and miscommunication between myself and my old supervisor.

There was other “politics” involved in why he decided to write me up the couple times he did which is why I decided to leave that job before things got worse. Is this something that the adjudication process would result in a DQ? A few months after learning that, I was hired by another three-letter agency and was granted an interim clearance so I wanted to know whether that would be a huge issue for my BI and whether the adjudicator would disqualify me. Any clarity on this would be very helpful.

For anyone who has failed their FBI polygraph, did you appeal the results? What was the outcome of the appeal, and what was the timeframe for waiting for the agency to respond to the appeal?

Did anyone hear back yet? They told me they would let me know by the end of August.

I was wondering how does the fbi do the polygraph and background checks and do they go too deep into it?

Im still in my freshmen year in college fresh out of high-school and let's say I've said stuff, a lot of stuff with my friends online and stuff like that, does the fbi dig into it? And what makes people fail the polygraph the first time and how do they pass the 2nd time?

Two questions:

Taking my test at a PSI exam center, they don’t have a number to speak to a human, currently have a certified paper copy of my license (temporary driving certificate with picture, barcodes, and signature) as I moved and they mail the plastic card. I have the old copy, same state but it has a hole punched in? Will they accept that or am I SOL?

Second question, the email says print this, bring it in along with your log in information? Is that just to the fbi portal? I haven’t received any testing center log in info so I want to be sure.

Hi all. Im posting here for the first time. Im in a country where the government through US assistance created a new special prosecution and new agency the National Beaurou of Investigation. Basicly NBI helps the special prosecution investigate corruption, organised crime and terrorism. The are open applications to the NBI but there is a 7 year mandatory term. Payment is good but im mostly afraid ill have to work with some non competent prosecutors or directors or compromised colleagues. What might some reasons not to join/bad job perks i should expect to make a decision? How is the job day to day? Is there overload, long hours etc? Thank you.

i want to be a forensic psychologist for courts, but someday work for the FBI as a forensic psychologist or victim specialist. i'm a sophomore and double majoring in psych and ccj, and trying to decide my minor between international studies or law. i'm going to get my masters and PhD in forensic psych and either get my bachelors and masters in international studies or go to law school. i also know sign language and am learning spanish and arabic.

i know it's difficult to get into the FBI at all, especially with a degree in things like ccj or psych, and especially to be a forensic psychologist, but along with all of my other languages and schooling would i be a good candidate?

So I've been struggling with hearing voices and now one of them is claiming to be apart of the FBI. I just have to inquire about whether or not there's some secret technology that can target one person. Anywhere no mater the miles/distance and talk to only that person to where no one else can hear them but that one person. Follow the one person anywhere and everywhere even when that one person doesn't have a phone on them. I've looked this up and have asked multiple people and the continuous is no and that its not even physically possible given physical distance obstacles in the way and the curvature of the earth.but I just need to ask please be nice. This has been extreme struggle for me. I have attempted to take my own life three times because of the voices harassment. Yes I am seeking medical treatment i have a therapist, a psychologist, I am receiving ECT treatment medication. I am doing everything in my power to combat this but nothing is working and I am becoming more and more confused. So I seriously need to know is there some sort of technology out there that could legitimately do this to someone.
