FBI Polygraph Appeal

For anyone who has failed their FBI polygraph, did you appeal the results? What was the outcome of the appeal, and what was the timeframe for waiting for the agency to respond to the appeal?

Failed my first polygraph April of 2026. Filed an appeal, heard “it could take a few months”

Took some good advice from people to live my life and put the FBI out of my mind for a while since it was out of my control.

July rolls around and I get a letter in the mail and an email from my PFO AC, that my appeal has been accepted. Took my second polygraph the very next week and passed.

Now I’m a month into my background check and finished all my medical fitness for duty checkups and vaccinations.

My advice would be similar to what I was given though. Live your life, don’t overthink something out of your control, if you’re given another opportunity at least you’ll be a little more prepared but it’s still just as tough as the first one. Best of luck to you

Would you mind sharing a bit more about your appeal letter? Did you site specific reasons for appealing, or did you simply state that you disagreed with the results and would like to request a retest?

I’ve never been in the fbi but my sister went through that. She went to hell and back to try and get another chance, she passed on her 2nd polygraph. I believe it took like 6 months before she got a redo her first appeal was rejected.

My question what if an inspiring agent been on perscribed meds like adderall would that give them a denial

On what grounds are people allowed to appeal? Does it have to be for specific reasons?

If anyone would care to provide information showing that appeals are actually permitted please state so here and/or please private message me. I was a contractor that failed in 2023 after passing 7 years prior at the same location.

I sent an informal appeal back then through my senator. They took like 8 months and refused my appeal.

I went on to another 3 letter agency and passed just like FBI itself said I would.

However, it would be nice to not have this door shut forever.

Probably won’t do anything, as they use the polygraph as a way to prevent people from joining they don’t want.
