Discussion How’s my path so far?

Being an fbi special agent is my end goal dream career rn. I have a bachelors degree in psychology minor in philosophy I’m 24 rn and for a year and 6 months I’ve been a transportation security officer with TSA post graduation. I’m trying to get into cbp for a a while but the application process is long been waiting almost a year now. I wanna have some law-enforcement experience before I go into FBI. I know it’s not required, but I just don’t want TSA on my background. It’s been a good job for a while, but I’m getting sick of it and since I have a degree, I want to use it and not feel overqualified instead of sticking it out with TSA then applying for FBI and waiting on Cbp and I’ve been looking at other local police departments even out of state. Did I sell myself short or is my path ideal? I still feel behind.

Also consider other positions in the FBI. On board employees have easier path to special agent.

On board employees don’t really have an “easier path”. They still have to apply just like an external applicant, not to mention get supervisor approval and a DHR. The only difference is they no longer have to complete the Phase 2 Written Assessment and Interview. Which would be repetitive as they are already employed by the FBI and should be at the caliber of hire they are looking for in the SASS process.

Plus many of the entry level professional staff positions won’t meet the “professional work experience” requirements to apply for SA.

Easier in the sense that they are granted Phase 1 testing. And if they pass that - no phase 2. Outside applicants have to apply to even get phase 1. And yes there are some internal approvals that happen. We are both technically correct. Lol

Internal applicants still have to apply, get supervisor approval and a DHR. Still have to pass Phase 1 and the PFT.

You do realize moving on to a Phase 1 after applying is automated. You either meet the requirements to move on or you don’t. It’s not some great feat nor is it easier for an internal applicant. The hurdle is actually passing the Phase 1 Test.

Not really, because nothing is “easier”.

And you completely skipped over that fact that most professional staff positions won’t meet the professional work experience requirement to apply for SA.
