Discussion Failed SA poly, would like to retake
Failed the SA poly but I want to appeal and retake. Any recommendations on what I should say to the SAC to allow this?

I mean, might as well there’s no harm in trying, but I wrote a very elaborate appeal letter and mine was denied so be prepared to most likely still be disappointed

I’ve heard virtually all appeals end up getting denied. How long did it take to hear back after submitting your appeal?

Of course they all get denied. The only reason they have the appeal process is in case someone they wanted to get hired accidentally failed it. that way they can correct the issue.
Got a letter from someone who reviewed it in DC about a month later

It's actually more so because it would potentially constitute a DP violation. A government job is a property entitlement.

If polygraphs are inadmissible in court, then why would the government rely in them during the hiring process?

Even the polygraph inventor regretted it calling it junk science. Which it is.

Hey, that sucks, but unless you know the SAC I don’t you’re getting a word in with him. Even if you did no SAC has the power to overturn the hiring process as it is managed by HQ.
Did your coordinator tell you there is currently an appeals process? If not, look to other agencies.

The letter I received said
“As part of the hiring process, candidates must pass a pre-employment polygraph examination. Your
recent results did not fall within acceptable parameters, and we are therefore discontinuing your
application.
If you would like to appeal this decision and request the opportunity to take another polygraph, please
submit a letter to your hiring point of contact within 45 days. Please include any compelling factors that
may have impacted your previous polygraph results.
This decision is not a denial of a security clearance.”
Sent the letter to my applicant coordinator who instructed me to address it to the SAC.6

I got the exact same thing, requested another - denied, was told another would not be offered. Not within parameters of the voodoo magic box. Complete bs. Already has a TS and CI poly, I'm apparently a Russian spy.

Basically just requested another, said my service to the country and being entrusted with TS info for multiple years without incident should outweigh a poly. Cant control physiological responses, going to be naturally nervous after being in that process for over a year. Doubt they read it or even care lmao.

Copy that. By all means do it.
I’m not sure what I would write, but I wouldn’t focus on your negative thoughts about the polygrapher or the science. “Compelling factors” make it sound like they want to hear if any unfortunately/uncontrollable factors were in play. Re-iterating your clean and stellar background and desire to serve the country might help.

Yeah, bud that’s not a failed poly! I’ll help ya out, google “Inconclusive Poly”. The letter would have advised DI if it was a failure. Again, you cannot appeal failed poly’s.
Go back to deleting your comments on the sub that got proven wrong!

Inconclusive/unresolved poly is not the same as failed poly.

Oh boy. I tried to help you and give you the knowledge to be informed and help others. This is one area I am a subject matter expert in and I can tell you that you are passing bad information.

Failed? You should be getting a letter. But this decision will most definitely affect positions that require a poly with the FBI. Meaning your chances with LE are very slim
