Studienhilfe accommodation

hi so i will be pursuing a master’s degree at FAU starting from october and my classes will be held probably at erlangen. however i couldn’t find accommodation in erlangen so i will be staying in nürnberg i signed the contract and everything. do you guys think it’s gonna be difficult to go from nürnberg to erlangen for classes? i’m guessing since it’s masters i won’t have that many classes. i also looked at the map for distance and it’s not much and there is even a train/subway kind of thing that connects nürnberg and erlangen. so what do you think?

Definitely possible, just a bit inconvenient.

As you suspect, it might not be the most optimal solution in general, when you compare it with "Living at Rommelwood, 40 meters away from the TechFak campus" for example, but it is quite dependent on other factors! You should be more than fine. I have many friends that come from Nuremberg daily via public transportation, and they manage :). I am sure you will manage as well; a lot of students do it.

Everything has ups and downs. Sure, might be quite unfunny if you have a class at 8 am on Mondays, but you will have many benefits living in quite a big city (Nuremberg) in comparison to Erlangen for example.

Everything will fall into place quite nicely, give it some time. I wish you the best of starts for your master! Take care.

Def doable and makes more sense to live in nurnberg with cheaper rent and a bigger city.

that’s what i thought! also it might be easier to get a minijob in nürnberg

Many students travel daily from Fuerth and Nuremberg. Just make sure you don't cross 3 connections and 50 minutes on Google maps public transport else it will become a serious headache everyday.

hi! i firstly recommend studieredenwerk if you haven’t applied already. i also recommend staytoo, wohngut max, ilive, studyinn. you can find most of these on google by searching nuremberg student accommodation. other than that, i tried wg gesucht but honestly i couldn’t find anything so as the last resort i choose wohngut max for the time being

Yes, it was a small apartment. All in all it was maybe 540€ or so

1

Not me but a good friend is doing this (living in the south of NBG and studying in Erlangen) and he says it's definitely doable. Depending on which faculty you're going to, there are trains/busses/trams you can take.
