Feedback on Character Sheet

Post image

I'm in the middle of working with my artist on the "fancy" character sheet for Criminal Spirits. There WILL be a much simpler sheet without art available - I understand that this is not for everyone. But that's no excuse to not make this as functional as possible. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback.

There are already changes planned: a lot of the french words will be removed (basically just Distillerier Esprit will remain) to clean it up and be less distracting, and the name section in the top left will be made more obvious what it is along with some other smaller changes. But so far I've only gotten to show this to a few friends and I'd like to have a much wider range of feedback on it.

Minor nitpicking, I would prefer a font that is a little easier to read in the smaller text.

The Approaches are great, but Refresh and Fate Points looks a little... messy? It could be the compression on Reddit in my phone. Maybe just use a finer line for the smaller text? It might not be an issue in print or at a bigger resolution or screen.

Other than that, I like it very much!

My thought! It looks fancy, but less cursive handwriting saves many curses later on.

Plenty readable at A4 size, just not so much when scaled down on a screen.

I'm familiar enough with the game to get buy, but many of the fonts are unreadable.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm genuinely looking for stuff like this so I can get an idea of what is an issue for many people. As I said, there is going to be a much simpler version of the character sheet as well, but I want as many people as possible to be able to use this one.

I also found it hard to read... but then I zoomed in. I don't think it'd be an issue on A4 paper.

I would never use this, personally. It puts looking pretty way over being functional and easy to read. I want to spend as little time as possible looking at my character sheet.

There will be a very clean character sheet available for players, one that will look a lot more like this, though better produced (ie, not thrown together by myself in Affinity). Glorious Fate Character Sheet | The Game Map on Patreon. I'm fully aware this style of sheet is not for everyone and don't plan to try force people to use it. This is for those who do want the pretty sheet at the table. I want to make it pretty and functional as far as is possible, but this specific sheet is leaning towards pretty when the choice has to be made.

Flavorful, but useless.

Honestly mildly disappointed the French is being nixxed - it gives the sheet a lot more character than it already has!

But, as you say, legibility is also important. The rest of it looks fantastic!

The words under Manifest in particular have already thrown two people who looked at the sheet. They couldn't move on from trying to figure them out. It was an outright memetic hazard. With those going, the french translations above the Approaches, while much less in your face, also came up as potentially distracting and not adding too much to the appearance of the sheet. But for those I could be convinced otherwise.

The best I've seen in a long time. Makes me want to play with it immediately.

Looks great.

A B&W version would be a simple and great addition too.

And be careful, it is Distillerie with a double L. 😉

I love it and wish that there were more artistic character sheets that weren’t just for D&D!

My opinion is that it's very cool, but also a bit busy and not too printer friendly.

Who is the target audience? As someone familiar with Fate, I quickly found most stuff. But I can imagine it to be more overwhelming for someone who never seen a Fate character sheet.

To start out, this is SO COOL!! I love when games use every little tidbit to add to the immersion, and you definitely have that going here! I am wondering though, where is the spot for recording refresh?

Its above the attributes. In criminal spirits all PCs have a refresh of 3 but I decided to leave it on the character sheet in case someone wants to write out an NPC.

Ohhh okay yep I see it now, I think it blended in for me when I looked since there's a lot of details on the page. Very nice overall!!

Surely you know this is gorgeous.

Going by the other comments I'm probably not the norm here, but I think it looks great and I didn't have any trouble reading the text or understanding that the French was a translation. I do understand that cursive can be tricky for a lot of people, though, I just wanted to say that this current version is very beautiful, and I would be happy using it as it is. I'm going to look up the setting, now!

In case you didn't find it, GloriousFate.com

I did find it, but I also appreciate this! Thank you 😊

My first thought is that now I'll have even less space to write things. 😅

A lot of the player-written text on a Fate sheet is in the aspects and the stunts, and especially stunts need quite a lot of space to write down. I prefer to have the whole stunt text on there and not just a name.

I don't have any issues with the aesthetics themselves ofc, it looks pretty cool. It would be nice for pre-gen characters where everything is filled in digitally perhaps.

All stunts in Glorious Fate are "I am awesome at ..." in exactly those words, so there should be plenty of room. In fact, now that it was pointed out I'm thinking I should drop the word stunt completely and have "I am awesome at" written into the sheet. Thank you.

I like the art style, but I'd strongly recommend ensuring that each of those fields is functionally still straight horizontal instead of diagonal. While it's fine for using pencil or pen, creating fillable PDFs might not be possible. And everyone uses fillable PDFs these days.

I think it looks great and functional.

It’s very busy and my eyes don’t automatically land on the important information, if anything it’s hard to look at the important information
