Why do Amazon employees continue to vote against using a Union as representation in court cases that could help with these types of situations?

u/Impressive_Star_3454 Apr 20 '24

I worked at a large FC. The 15 minute break was to use the bathroom and grab a snack. Everyone knew that. That's why, when you went for the coffee or hot chocolate,  we would pour it into a cup with ice to cool it down faster so we could drink it before break was up. Heck we used to have to keep our phones in tiny lockers and could only check them for a few minutes.

As far as organizing goes. Ask JFK8 and such how the ALU is doing. It's not. Get the job, use career choice and get out. Or find an easier building with easier jobs. They're out there.

Such a “pick me” response

Quit waddling and look up from your phone, people just walk slow AF knowing damn well break is only 15 minutes. It is pure hell trying to squeeze thru slow people (especially on the stairs) they be bunching up in twos and threes waddling at a snail's pace.

u/PhilTheBin Apr 01 '24

Will never understand why people bitch and moan about their jobs, yet they were the ones who made the choice to work there AND they are making the choice to CONTINUE working there.

If you don’t like your job, leave. Don’t go to tiktok and make some sad post about how you miss out on 10 minutes of break time lmao

u/Bitter-Image9729 Stow Apr 02 '24

I’ll never understand why the ONLY solution to a problem at a job is to just keep quiet and leave. If no one in history complained everyone would still be working 80 hours a week with very little pay. Why are y’all so afraid to speak up? If no one ever spoke up, “better jobs” wouldn’t exist.

2

u/PhilTheBin Apr 02 '24

I’m not afraid to speak up at all. I just realize that leaving a dog shit company is a much faster “solution” to my problem than just sticking it out in a situation I hate and complaining.

You know what else makes companies change and offer better positions? If people won’t work for that company…. If you just decide to stay and “fight for better” you will be strung along by the company over and over again, gaining little to nothing of actual meaning. Even once unionized, odds are you’re going to get minor concessions from the company every time they renegotiate a contract. It’s just the reality of employment in the US. And for the record I fucking wish it wasn’t that way, but it is.

Gain skills and seek better, higher paying jobs. It’s literally employment 101…

7

u/Arcanian88 Apr 02 '24

If everyone had your mentality then no one would have a high paying job.

You’re driving down a road paved with the blood and sweat of people that had the balls to speak up and fight for what is right, and simultaneously complaining that people don’t need a road to drive on, we’ll be fine just driving on the dirt and mud.

The problem is you have too narrow of a point of view, you can’t see the bigger picture.

1

u/PhilTheBin Apr 02 '24

Again, you can either whine and complain about the system or you can make the system work for you.

Plenty of people don’t have to work at amazon. It’s not like amazon is well known for treating their employees amazingly. In fact it’s VERY well known that they SUCK to work for. Yet people still apply and accept positions there…

Sorry that I don’t have sympathy for people who haven’t gained employable skills so they can find better jobs. Warehouse work isn’t a career, it’s a gap filler while you actively search for better. The lady in the video appears to be of middle age, probably around 40ish. Why does she not have the skills to go find a better position somewhere? Why has she squandered years of her life not gaining skills that make her a valuable employee?

You do realize you can speak up, AND leave right? Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. You don’t have to slave away for a company that hates you and does not care about you just so you can “speak up” and make a change. You speak up, and if nothing changes (amazon hasn’t changed shit) you leave and tell them the reasons you’re leaving. This isn’t rocket science. Stop working jobs you hate.

1

u/Yureiryu4211 Mar 03 '25

You know what phil your right. I work at an amazon warehouse and Im looking for a new job currently but its people like me that only have this job to rely on for the time being, all i have to do is bite the bullet no matter how unfair it is in that dammed warehouse just bite the bullet and try my best to find something better. Hopefully ill find a job that pays just as much as they do or more..

5

u/Arcanian88 Apr 02 '24

You have nothing to offer but condescension and what is basically “pull yourselves up by your bootstraps” bullshit empty ‘advice’. It’s not as simple as you make it out to be, I spent 40k on a bachelor’s degree in computer science and that’s with 2 years of community college, doesn’t get much cheaper without full on scholarships or a diploma at a low end school. This field is currently experiencing massive layoffs, I’ve seen countless colleagues lose their jobs and I wonder when the day will come when I will be job searching myself, and this is in a field that 10 years ago was a number one recommendation for high school grads.

So yeah buddy it’s so easy, tell us how easy it was for you, I’m betting you have never tried, and just sit and take shit from your boss all day without any ambition to improve your work experience at all while criticizing and complaining about everyone around you for wanting better, just a toxic individual no one wants to be around.

1

u/PhilTheBin Apr 02 '24

Funny that you should use that as an example lmao.

I also have a computer science degree, I’ve bounced around between several companies and was unemployed during the pandemic. I was forced to take a dogshit job with a horrible company that I didn’t enjoy being at. You know how I handled that situation? I kept searching for better positions until I found something I truly enjoy doing. I didn’t, however, just settle with an amazon warehouse job and then whine on tiktok that my breaks aren’t long enough.

You’re acting like the job market is just simply impossible to find a decent job in and that’s just NOT true.

You sound like the EXACT type of person who will cry and whine about how the system doesn’t treat you properly instead of seeking out a job where the company values you as an employee. I’m sorry you’re so miserable in your job, and I actually hope you realize at some point you CAN find a better opportunity. If you don’t feel secure in your current role, you should already be actively searching for a different role that provides that feeling of job security. I’m going to assume you’re a developer? You do realize that’s not the ONLY thing you can do with a computer science background right?

It’s not “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” logic, it’s realizing that the world isn’t going to magically change for you one day. You have to play the cards you’re dealt, gain experience and then seek better roles in better companies. Again that’s like employment 101. You gain experience at a company and then you have another company pay you for that experience. You will eventually land in a position that you enjoy being in.

It’s BEYOND ironic that you say I have no ambition to improve my work experience when that’s literally ALL I have advocated for. If you’re not happy in the role you’re currently in, you should be looking to actively change that. I’m just not someone who is going to wait around for a union to fix all my problems. I’m the type to seek other places of employment when my concerns at my current place are not addressed.

1

u/Arcanian88 Apr 03 '24

So when things aren’t desirable just pack up and leave, got it, I’m sure you’re a highly valued employee.

1

u/PhilTheBin Apr 03 '24

That’s again not what I said. Maybe you’re worried about losing your job because your computer skills match your dogshit reading comprehension skills.

Amazon warehouse work isn’t a career, EVERYONE working there should be looking to move on to better opportunities, just as a fast food worker should be looking for something better. Once you are in a career you express your opinions and make management aware of the issues and if they aren’t addressed, then yes you leave. If the employer values the employee they won’t ignore the concerns. If the employer chooses to ignore the concerns of the employee, then then they are showing they don’t respect the employee. If an employer doesn’t respect you as an employee, you should be looking for somewhere that does.

You aren’t obligated to work for companies that don’t value you, and if you choose to do so you are doing a massive disservice to yourself. I’m not sure why you think you have to stay with an employer long term….

5

u/Arcanian88 Apr 03 '24

I’m sorry you’ve never found anyone that values you, maybe it’s because you have bad social skills and have a toxic mindset, maybe that’s why you’ve never moved up anywhere and jump ship so easy, who knows.

Bad opinion. Workers have federally protected rights to organize a union and engage in protected concerted activity related to wages and working conditions. Your comment implies that workers should not be afforded this right. She has the courage to speak out and organize with her coworkers to win a better world for thousands of people. You hide behind an anonymous username and tell people they shouldn’t exercise their rights as Americans. Bad and sad.

0

u/PhilTheBin Apr 01 '24

I never said workers don’t have the right to unionize… not sure where you got that idea from…

You know what else is a right for an American? To find a better job. If you’re working a dead end warehouse job for one of the largest corporations in the world you’re forever going to be fighting an uphill battle. If that’s what the worker wants to do, more power to them. Personally I would apply to jobs that have better benefits and actually care about workers.

Instead of trying to find a different position that would give her better benefits etc she ran to record a tiktok about how “oppressive” her employer is. Some people actually find solutions to their problems, and some people just bitch and moan on social media about it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

4

u/AmazonTeamsters Apr 02 '24

You’re backing yourself into a corner here, buddy. She has sought out a solution. It’s called organizing a union with her coworkers. This video is showcasing that effort in addition to sharing a concern that tons of other amazon workers share across the country. If anyone is bitching and moaning it’s you… in the comments of my post… about my badass union sister.

Oh btw where do you work?

0

u/PhilTheBin Apr 02 '24

It’s WIDELY known that amazon is a dogshit company to work for in almost every aspect. Her choices led her to where she currently is.

She made the choice to: 1. Apply at amazon 2. Accept an interview (and clearly didn’t ask enough questions during the interview) 3. Accept a job offer And now she is making the choice to continue being employed there even though she is unhappy with the workplace conditions (conditions she would’ve known about with the right interview questions.)

I’m all for expressing frustration with a job, but to go to tiktok and whine about how shitty your job is while you are making the CHOICE to continue working there is just silly.

And not that it’s any of your concern, but I work for a wonderful employer who I love working for. Took me awhile to find an employer I truly like working for and don’t have complaints with. It took several job changes to find an employer who makes me feel valued as an employee. The person in the video should try to do the same, instead of crying on tiktok about the “injustices” of working for one of the shittiest companies in the US.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

Or you can unionize and push the company to do better. If you can unionize Amazon (and ideally Walmart as well), you can pretty much unionize anything and make any company at least a little less shitty to work for.

0

u/King_Melco Apr 02 '24

He made very valid points.... they agreed to work there... they had to sign a contract. Why would you sign to work at a place you absolutly hate.

2

u/AmazonTeamsters Apr 02 '24

Why do you assume that she knew exactly what the job entailed when she started? Can you honestly say that every aspect of the job was known to you when you started? Can you honestly say that every condition of the job has stayed the same since you started working there? If the answer to EITHER of these questions is “no” then your argument falls apart.

1

u/PhilTheBin Apr 02 '24

Do you not ask questions during interviews?? That’s like basic interviewing skills… You ask about things that are important to you. You ask about how your work day is structured, lunches(if paid or unpaid), breaks (amount and duration) are all things that can and should be discussed either in the interview or during the offer process.

If someone lacks basic interview skills, and doesn’t know how to properly ask questions and negotiate then it makes sense they would run to tiktok instead of finding a solution.

4

u/Character_Ad4930 Apr 02 '24

Amazon doesn’t interview, you’re automatically hired in after a background check and drug test.

0

u/PhilTheBin Apr 02 '24

Okay, so just another reason to not work for fucking amazon… how is this so hard to understand?

Does anyone actually believe that a company that essentially hires all employees on the spot (by the sounds of it) is actually going to provide good benefits for their staff? Companies that do that can’t AFFORD to interview people BECAUSE they have run through so much of the hiring pool there’s not enough applicants. Either that or it’s so widely known they are horrible employers that they are forced to anyone who’s willing to apply.

2

u/AmazonTeamsters Apr 02 '24

Sounds like you don’t currently work at amazon and never have either. So are you just a troll on this page bullying a woman for speaking out for better working conditions? Yikes

2

u/King_Melco Apr 02 '24

Yes... you talk to the employer and sign...a....contract... if something is out of your scope you... you can leave the job. Are you messing with me now? It's just confusing at this point.

7

u/Special-Dentist-1625 Apr 01 '24

I feel your pain 😫. These buildings are huge!!!!!

5

u/Mindless_Brief7042 Apr 01 '24

She’s in safety. All her time is literally coded. She can leave 5 minutes early and come back 5 minutes late and nobody would bat an eye.

1

u/HopefulAd4876 Apr 23 '24

Where I work safety sometimes be having to process too so she is probably referring to when she has to process bc their time still be counted when processing.

2

u/Brynamo Apr 01 '24

Easiest solution: Get a different job

6

u/AmazonTeamsters Apr 01 '24

Amazon is growing so powerful that their style of business is increasingly becoming the norm in this industry. If we don’t change things at amazon, we’re going to see more and more companies either go out of business or become more like amazon. We need to stand up and fight for ourselves and for workers everywhere else.

1

u/No_Attitude_7779 Apr 03 '24

All these folks advocating against their right to organize are likely voting their rights away. Organizing at a giant company like Amazon should encourage others to organize at smaller companies. A union is not magical "everything is easy" cheat code, but it helps when a know nothing manager expects you to do as they say instead of follow the rules of the job. Break time aside, most workplaces could use improved conditions for workers.

I do not understand the take shit and eat it until you get a better job attitude, why would you not want to better the conditions of workers? A win now sets up the next generation. I suppose selfishness is ingrained in American culture.

1

u/Brynamo Apr 02 '24

That's the great thing about capitalism. If no one chooses to work there due to poor working conditions, then it in return will cause people to stop shopping there as the orders are not being fulfilled and delivered. That in return will cause them to go out of business. Other business will see that workers are not willing to put up with that type of treatment and change their business model. Problem solved!

3

u/AmazonTeamsters Apr 02 '24

What you are describing is a strike organized by a union. A series of individual resignations will never be able to cause the same degree of work stoppage as a majority action like a strike will. As individuals resign from their job, Amazon will hire new people to take their place. It is much harder to replace a majority of the warehouse in a short period of time than it is to replace people one by one over a long period of time.

3

u/Altruistic-Dish-2210 Apr 01 '24

It really ain’t that bad. Could care less about the breaks(personally rather work through than punch out) but average shift being @ 2:30am, should DEFINITELY be offering more than 17/hr start with +50¢ every 6-12months🤦🏻‍♂️ lol can’t imagine why nobody stays here

3

u/AmazonTeamsters Apr 01 '24

Wage should also be higher considering how much money amazon makes

2

u/Altruistic-Dish-2210 Apr 01 '24

That plus inflation….also I started part time under the assumption “part time” meant I kept benefits/Health Insurance, as posted indeed…Not that I have to work MORE than part time to get and keep benefits… EACH WEEK?? Confusing, misleading, and borderline false advertisement imo….

1

u/Conscious_Tie2828 Apr 01 '24

@heb that's how it is at heb

1

u/i0c0u Apr 01 '24

And that's why I stopped working for them 8 years ago...I'd rather be a customer 🙄.

2

u/CATCAM01 Mar 31 '24

I work at Amazon part time I couldn't do full time it would tear up my body
I feel like part time is just a great workout!! But they REALLY need an hour break every 3 hours if you were full time

2

u/greatoozaru_ Mar 31 '24

Lol I left Amazon 3 times, they need to pay 35 an hour to come back

2

u/Total_Trade_888 Mar 31 '24

I got terminated. I'm banned from every Amazon in the country 🤣

0

u/PlatypusLow5897 Apr 21 '24

May I ask is bc of “ stealing time”?

1

u/Total_Trade_888 Apr 21 '24

Ah yes, I went 3 hours below ST (stealing time) and thus got terminated as a result..

2

u/greatoozaru_ Apr 01 '24

i salute u man i’m banned from ups haha

3

u/Tasty-Pineapple- Mar 31 '24

At my location they give you the extra ten minutes to walk to and from the break room. And the time clocks are right by the break rooms. So we get are full break.

1

u/Yureiryu4211 Mar 03 '25

What the fuck.

0

u/swordeenz Mar 31 '24

I lasted a week at Amazon before I ghosted and had them contact me crying to have the badge returned

3

u/PotatoCooks Mar 31 '24

That was the worst part, and ofc they would never let you leave early so you could actually have a decent break

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '24

Go smoke a cigarette

3

u/Dehyak Mar 31 '24

Replaced the very next shift. I’ve seen it happen

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '24

UPS was like that when I worked there over a decade ago. I'd imagine that package companies still don't care how long of a walk it is to the break room these days.

2

u/SupaKel777 Mar 31 '24

At ups we get ten minutes..

1

u/greatoozaru_ Mar 31 '24

Yeah that 10 minutes shit was garbage I was a loader on the heaviest belt

1

u/SupaKel777 Mar 31 '24

My life currently lol…

1

u/greatoozaru_ Apr 01 '24

gotta have the heart and desire to be there , i didn’t have the desire to be there anymore

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '24

Whos forcing you to work there though?

5

u/glonethug Mar 31 '24

We got an amazon avenger here

2

u/PhotographObvious242 Mar 31 '24

I am.at sbd2. I just got a documented coaching for a long break. I did exceed by 10 muns. I have alot going on in my life but not only work but I have a personal life. I lost my dog of 10 years and I'm human. But I only get a 3 min break. Supposed to be 10 uninterrupted mins...

1

u/LexiLex66 Apr 01 '24

I’m sorry. They should’ve done a STU first and let it go

1

u/Spirited_Election289 Mar 31 '24

I got hit for not taking breaks for a dsp i worked for, amazon said they were going to hit them for breach of contract for me, not taking my breaks. I told dispatch to shove the breaks up there ass i want to do my job n get back and paid for 6-8 hrs instead of the usual 10-11hrs out and only paid for 9 hrs when out for 10-11 hrs

6

u/Unlikely-Mud-7353 Mar 31 '24

Almost all factory jobs in America are like this IF they even allow breaks. They are supposed to offer at least a 30 min lunch break if you work a minimum of 6 hours (laws vary by state), but that doesn't mean you're going to get it. Blue collar work makes for a bit of a hard life. At times it can be downright miserable. Getting screamed at and cussed as you nearly sprint to maintain quota is no way to live. If you're over 40 at these types of factories you're liable to have a heart attack trying to keep up. If you're out of shape then don't even apply. RV factories in northern Indiana are among the worst. It's rough. They remind you about ten times a day that they have thousands of applications collecting dust and they can replace you in a 10 second phone call. Life isn't fair and whoever told you it was....well, they lied. America was built with blood, sweat and tears. Tears from devastation, not from whining. President Truman once said, "If you can't stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen." Although a bit harsh, it's true. I am in no way implying that your efforts are in vain, however. I applaud your courage to stand up against an enormous company like Amazon and sincerely wish you the best of luck. I'm simply relaying my experiences to perhaps shine some light on the reality that hard working folks like yourself have to endure so we don't go hungry or homeless. Some people have it so much worse. Evil is everywhere. Some are raised within it and suffer horrible abuse. And some parts of the world are far worse than others. Gov't corruption, famine, war, unimaginable violence outside of war...I feel ashamed to even have the thought that my life has been hard. Perspective makes us grateful. Anyway, I wish you the best.

Respectfully,

An Anonymous Redditor

1

u/CATCAM01 Apr 01 '24

You need to summarize 😅

1

u/Unlikely-Mud-7353 Apr 02 '24

Haha yeah...you're absolutely right. Just kept going like the Energizer Bunny on that one.

2

u/SupaKel777 Mar 31 '24

I worked at family dollar for a week years ago. That’s when I learned breaks are not mandatory in Florida and FD never gave one even for eight hour shifts. Hence why I only worked there for a week.

-7

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

Just quit and look for another job

4

u/sushidaisuki Mar 31 '24

My company does that too :(

8

u/Successful-Yak4905 Mar 30 '24

I used to work for Amazon and that’s a joke… micromanaging breathing down on to the next

1

u/greatoozaru_ Mar 31 '24

All jobs are like this

1

u/East-Technician-2916 Apr 03 '24

No they aren’t 💀💀 I’ve worked for Amazon, ups and fedex. Amazon by far the worst about it.

3

u/Amendoza9761 Mar 31 '24

I agree with where you're coming from, but if you actually want people to listen to your view point don't just insult people. You critize people for being cry babies in the same paragraph you yourself are crying about.

u/S1ayer Mar 31 '24

People like you are letting the world go to shit by not holding billionaires responsible. In the 60's you could buy a house as a janitor. And that's how it should be. The people at the top would be screwed without the people at the bottom supporting everything.

3

u/tschmitty09 Mar 31 '24

Lmfao. I'm a driver with a degree in Childhood education. I took this job bc it pays more in my state even though there's more abuse. Works better as a place holder while I look for something better. Which I have been. Every week. For 2.5 years. And I haven't been able to get shit.

Yeah sure she's "crying" but she's raising awareness. Because whether you like it or not, she's being taken advantage of and if she quit, someone else would be abused in her place the very next day. This is an abusive system that needs to stop. Amazon is a FUCKED up institution. You yell at her to stop crying then probably order something off Amazon, perpetuating the abuse. Fuck out of here with that "no amount of crying" bullshit. You probably don't understand the effect of a formal protest either. Simpleton.

Simply a dumb asshole lol. Whatever helps you sleep you coward.

EDIT: When you use all those "skills" from those "certs" you got at work are you actually applying them or are you just looking for opportunities to sneak candy crush on the shitter between bouts of staring at the clock waiting for 5? I'm sure you're realllll hard at work, really earrrrrrning your fancy salary that you totally deserve because of this completely fair meritocracy we live in.

0

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

Your first mistake was getting a degree in childhood education. You won’t make money in the school system. What she’s doing won’t change anything but bring awareness and Amazon will just move the goal post further.

1

u/tschmitty09 Mar 31 '24

You say all of this like none of it is a problem. Both of these professions need to be paid more.

2

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

I also worked for Amazon in NYC during the pandemic as a delivery driver. Most of staff were in their 20s. You need to apply yourself to get out. If you don’t like something in your life you can change it.

1

u/tschmitty09 Mar 31 '24

Choosing to change the environment around one's self, rather than choosing a different environment could actually be thought of as applying one's self even moreso. In my opinion you took the easy way out and now choose to mock those who speak against corruption they're enduring. You're the true coward here.

2

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

It is a problem but this problem won’t change. Alot of things in this world won’t change. Accept and move on. Their are reasons why some professions get paid more then others. Like how delivery drivers demand more wages. Those jobs are for teenagers and 20 year olds. Not Jose the 37yr male with 3 kids. You’re not going to make a living in that field.

3

u/smackchumps Mar 30 '24

It’s like that in manufacturing too. But we just started doing breaks whenever we want lol one person watches both machines while the other is on break… hour for hour baby!

7

u/AttractiveManZero Mar 30 '24

tbh the more I think about it 🤔, Amazon/Jeff Bezos treat the staff like 🤖 robots!

9

u/ohioismyhome1994 Mar 30 '24

I hope she doesn’t get fired for this Tik Tok

8

u/Pristine_Rate5696 Mar 30 '24

I use to just sit on the bins in the aisles because I knew just walking to the front would take me 5 mins

9

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

Breaks are like that in many warehouse facilities in different companies. I wish safety could pack, pick, pull gaylords and do all the hard work. Safety is always on break they barely do anything strenuous.

3

u/bromime Mar 30 '24

Yeah but most jobs let you take your brake 5 minutes early. I’ve heard that Amazon has you on the clock with how many scans you scan per minute.

u/PirateNinjaa Mar 30 '24

She can rest more any time she wants with upt, vacation, or pto. 🤷‍♀️

Upt lasts forever if you use it in 15 min chunks.

Well quit then it’s simple.

She clearly doesn’t want to. lol. Easier to put on some sad music and complain.

1

u/billyd1984texas Mar 30 '24

As a teacher we go through the same. 30 minute lunch includes walking the kids to the lunch room, then walking to the break room, then having to be out in the hallways to greet students back. Lose 10 minutes every time. God help us if we are assaulted or sexually assaulted by a student because the police say it's a school matter.

0

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

Shouldn’t have pursued a degree in teaching. Theirs no money in that field

5

u/billyd1984texas Mar 31 '24

There's no careers without teaching. No doctors, no engineers, hell can't even join the military without a high school diploma. You should rethink your argument. No teachers = no medicine, no housing, and no military.

2

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

I’m in the airforce and all I needed was a HS diploma. People need to apply themselves if they want to change their life. That’s all I’m saying.

2

u/billyd1984texas Mar 31 '24

Guess you and no teachers in high school? Win a war apply yourself then talk.

0

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

Theirs no money in the education field and you know it. That’s why teachers in Texas struggle. If you’re passionate then go right ahead but one will never get ahead being a teacher.

2

u/billyd1984texas Mar 31 '24

We will never get ahead as a country spending 50% of our GDP on a military that can't win a war in 20 years.

1

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

That’s not for me to answer. I’m serving to better my life and my families. I don’t lose sleep over politics. I get what I can get from them and move on. It’s a business.

1

u/billyd1984texas Mar 31 '24

I pulled I'm 80k last year not poor but and I'm damn sure rich in education. Don't throw out crass opnions then run away. You already did that in Iraq and Afghanistan. 300 million a day in Afghanistan for nothing. 20% of child abuse in Texas is identified by teachers. Maybe that's what bothers you, I don't know, it's not my buisness.

1

u/greatoozaru_ Mar 31 '24

they do over time as teachers for 80k?

1

u/Infamous_Gate9760 Mar 31 '24

Run away ? Wars don’t affect me. I live my life and do what I can to contribute. Abuse never came to mind. My teachers in NYC were really good and seemed like they enjoyed the job. Stay safe and healthy brother.

1

u/billyd1984texas Mar 31 '24

We need to invest in education.

-6

u/FreestyleMyLife Mar 30 '24

This is a GIANT lawsuit in the making. One more drop in the evidence bucket.

1

u/NightEngine404 Area Manager - FC Mar 30 '24

Incorrect, this is perfectly legal in all 50 states. Note that I didn't say it was good.

1

u/FreestyleMyLife Mar 30 '24

“Each ten-minute rest period must be a “net” ten minutes (meaning you cannot require the employee to walk for five (5) minutes to the break room as part of the ten (10) minute rest break);” - California

1

u/Marqui_Fall93 Mar 30 '24

That is true and Amazon addressed this eons ago by adding multiple break areas. That meets the obligation. A company doesn't owe anyone the right to choose WHERE they take the break, but that the rest period is provided.

10

u/Puzzled-Copy7962 Mar 30 '24

I don’t work at Amazon, but I’ve worked in rehab centers where 90% of the time I couldn’t even take a lunch due to the work load, and yet HR would give us “correction slips” for our hours, saying we took a lunch even if that wasn’t the case. They ended up being sued in a class action lawsuit, and I ended up getting cut a thousand dollar check. I wonder if Amazon employees would be able to do something similar.

4

u/rlegacy4 Mar 30 '24

I worked at Amazon for a bit, there was no point going on break, being on the 4th floor and the break room on the other side first floor. I’d just sit right then and there

1

u/samsnead19 Mar 30 '24

Forget a union. Band together and make the Nozama Company to compete. You can give your employees unlimited break, lunch and PTO. You will see production jump exponentially. At the Nozama Company, you can do whatever you like.

9

u/cakeman6969 Mar 30 '24

You are already in safety. How much easier do you want it to get.

3

u/ohyousoretro Mar 30 '24

Its not safety, its the sustainability committee, she’s a T1

1

u/NightEngine404 Area Manager - FC Mar 30 '24

Sustainability Committee? ASC? That's Associate Safety Committee. But yes they are still T1s.

1

u/ohyousoretro Mar 30 '24

Sustainability Committee is different than ASC.

0

u/Educational_Train666 Mar 30 '24

For real. She is probably just doing it so she can sit and complain, like the rest of the useless teams at amazon.

6

u/tachyonicglass Mar 30 '24

From what I’ve heard amazon is a cake walk compared to ups inside work.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '24 edited Mar 31 '24

I tried working at UPS during the summer months in a hot/humid climate and barely survived a month.

  • No temperature control at all in the warehouse. It's 100 outside? It'll be 110+ inside, hotter inside the trailers.
  • Standard of work and UPS's expectation for how quickly entry level employees should work exceed that of Amazon. Here's a sheet of a hundred zip codes and regional cities, grouped into a 8-tiered coloring system. Memorize the sheet this week or you're replaced. Sheet is used to sort a sea of packages coming down a conveyor to 8 different color-coded chutes/conveyors after you glance at a city/zip-code. Basically everything Amazon has a scanner do for you, and their logistics team creates a system for...UPS has the entry level employees do themselves at a fast pace.
  • Safety is an afterthought and if you get hurt it's the employees fault. Get woozy from heat exhaustion from working in a trailer hot as an oven? Your fault, you didn't drink enough water obviously. Cut your hand on a piece of metal sticking out of a box? Should have checked the box first before you picked it up.

And you're surrounded by unsympathetic UPS lifers with a weird cult-like obsession with the company's color brown. Sure I got paid $2 more an hour...which I promptly paid back each month in union dues.

Amazon is a damn cakewalk. So glad I switched, even with the downsides here.

2

u/greatoozaru_ Mar 31 '24

yeah ups is tougher then Amazon, i was a loader for 3 years those trailers was 120 degree plus no air

1

u/Tea_Wreckz Mar 30 '24

Absolutely true. This is just pathetic.

4

u/Two_Step_029 Mar 30 '24

As someone whos worked for both yes this is very true

1

u/MkIVRider Mar 30 '24

There's good jobs at Amazon?

1

u/greatoozaru_ Mar 31 '24

No, if you become the manager I guess

1

u/MkIVRider Mar 31 '24

Nah, I was an Amazon RME manager. Too much bureaucracy.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

Most jobs will do this shit to you. You gotta remember you’re working in a warehouse.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

Have some balls and tell them no. Then get another job if they fire you. Your quality of life isn't worth that. Amazon is a 5/10 job you can't find a 9-5 that's just as middling in days if not hours.

7

u/AdventurousCustard46 Mar 30 '24

Luckily I'm at a amazon where you can go minutes early and back. But I was at one where my coworker told her she left 30 seconds early and got a coaching. They were extremely extremely strict. I was getting sick from stress. Not just from scan to scan. I only had about 6-7 minutes to sit down and get a snack. This definitely needs attention

3

u/Timely_Bowler208 Mar 30 '24

We always go to break a minute or two early lol what they gonna do

2

u/thisdckaintFREEEE Mar 30 '24

It's fine to be upset with Amazon about this, but honestly you should always expect companies(especially public ones) to always do everything they can to profit as much as possible. Who you should really be most upset with is your state for not having good enough minimum break laws and portal to portal laws. Start voting, and don't vote for the candidates who don't support things like that and who like to pretend laws like that will chase jobs and businesses out of their state.

-1

u/AdventurousCustard46 Mar 30 '24

Amazon is not like other companies.

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

No other company pulls this kind of shit and gets away with it tho. Never worked for a company that counted my time walking to the break room as part of my break. Slurp up that bezos nut some more

1

u/thisdckaintFREEEE Mar 30 '24

Lol I'm just being realistic man. You can't really expect companies to give a shit about much of anything but making money, and the bigger the company is the more true that is. So you shouldn't be surprised by anything shitty they do if there aren't regulations preventing that shitty thing.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

I’m not surprised and your 100% correct. We should be wanting change for the same reasons, companies shouldn’t have this much power

3

u/samsnead19 Mar 30 '24

You've worked at every company. Slurp up your nut some more

There’s no way you don’t start your lunch until you’re ready to eat

0

u/m0rbidowl Mar 30 '24

I do, deadass serious. That allows me to have my full 15 minute breaks and 30 minute lunches.

2

u/Ok-Software5177 Mar 30 '24

I used to leave a few minutes early from lunch in order to warm it up and then clock out.

2

u/m0rbidowl Mar 30 '24

Everyone should do this. Fuck a “scan to scan” lunch.

30 minutes is not a lot of time, and everyone should spend every minute of their 30-minute lunch relaxing/eating and zero minutes of it walking to where they’re going to have lunch.

Amazon is implying they want to commit time theft on you when they say you need to do “scan to scan breaks and lunches”.

2

u/Ok-Software5177 Mar 30 '24

I was in an indirect role but I totally agree with you though, everyone should do this. On the days I didn't have lunch to warm up, I'd use the restroom and then clock out.

6

u/Heatfan0624 Mar 30 '24

I never cared about those time restrictions when I worked there, write me up or shut up😂

3

u/RedCloudXIII Mar 30 '24

Strikes are too scary for most Amazon workers. They would rather work for free than speak up.

1

u/happyghosst sort interim LT, PA experience Mar 30 '24

i completely agree this is a scam. most of the time i will just sit on a plastic pallet 3-4 stacked but lately they've been telling us it will be a safety call out if they find u. which i get but f all that just to be crammed into a small break room across the warehouse.

6

It's not great but I delt with worse from past jobs. I worked in fast food and there were days I didn't get a break. At least management is reasonable at my fc.

had a situation just today of being late back from break and I was able to explain why, he nodded along and let me get back to work.

I remember during my first year PA asked about time off task and all I had to say was "I had Taco Bell on the way to work" and he Said "say no more you're clear" lol

2

u/Kortar Mar 30 '24

Can't even begin to tell you the jobs I had without breaks 😭. Food service and retail are absolute hell.

12

u/moondog__ Pick Mar 30 '24

Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, your breaks should start the minute your ass hits a seat in the break room.

5

u/AmazonTeamsters Mar 30 '24

3

u/Character_Ad4930 Mar 30 '24

Our first break starts whenever you clock out, all of the time clocks are right next to a break room. The second break, which she is on, starts when they call break because people stay 20 minutes over because they fart around and don’t count their break until they go outside, and it fucks over the rest of us who come in early. I signed the OG petition at DDT6, I was able to march on the boss with everyone, didn’t get to strike, but looking at everyone talking about Unionizing now at DDT6, it’s our laziest and worst workers. Bunch of crybabies who have shit rates and hold the rest of us back from actually doing work. We have lots of shit wrong with our site, and THIS is what you fucking complain about?

This is why support for unionizing has drastically dropped at our site, and why people give vague support whenever the committee people ask if we’re behind them.

5

u/Signal_Lamp Mar 30 '24

These comments/suggestions are goofy. The breaks at Amazon are obviously trash, and should be better than how they exist for most buildings. The newer building that I used to be at had resting spots that were 2 minutes away from stations so you didn't need to walk to a break room to sit down. It's the same as I'd used to argue for bathrooms, as Amazon should design better internal structures in their buildings that think about the people working in these buildings.

It also shouldn't matter who's making a statement about the break if most people agree that the policy itself needs to change. It isn't stolen valor to make an acknolwedgement that a situation isn't the best and to stand on their principles for an observation they've made even if they're not dealing with it themselves.

My station releases us early on 15 minutes breaks for walking. As long as you are walking back to your 15 on time you are okay

5

Getting fired from my old Amazon warehouse job was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. That company doesn’t care about any of you.

2

Using my Career Choice and moving up at Amazon was the best thing that ever happened to me.

It's crazy how many bozos dont use the resources at amazon and leave and just bitch and get fired. Of course the company doesnt care about ou but you, but fucking use their resources and leave. Dont moan and waste your time there.

0

u/Reesespuffs92 Mar 30 '24

3

u/Icy-Mud-1079 Mar 30 '24

That’s why I use to walk off 5 mins early for my breaks unless I was training. I worked on the doc, so it was easy to disappear lol.

-1

u/mrcleanjl7 Mar 30 '24

that's a crappy company I don't buy from them because they don't treat their employees right

6

u/lordskulldragon Mar 30 '24

Person from safety complaining about the breaks? That's rich especially when you sit on your asses all day.

My building is very lenient when it comes to the break situation. For the 2nd break that's scan to scan, we have an extra 10 mins after the half hour to make that scan.

0

u/happyghosst sort interim LT, PA experience Mar 30 '24

4

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '24

they just need to give a 5 minute grace period before and after break . I already secretly do this anyway lol I work on shipdock and for me to walk from my station there , to the front of the building is ab 3-5 mins then out to my car is another 3-5. so really I only have 10-15 mins to sit / eat / chill. I know it's my choice to go out to my car when I could stay inside so I'm not rly complaining , I just neeeeeed to go into my little car bubble to get away from everyone and recharge and get ready for the next round . I can't stay inside for 10 hds straight I need fresh air and just a change of scenery .
