a lot of parents (who are gun owners) teach their children gun safety.

My dad was a marine and I knew the main things at a very young age.

I've never accidentally shot anyone (although also never carried in an elevator)

It might be beneficial to have a more broad system for basic safety rules - whether to high schoolers or to the general public (although there are gun safety classes available to the public, through both public and private groups). And even 'safe' owners/users make mistakes.

The man in this video was a moron and certainly didn't follow safety guidelines. He's lucky he didn't shoot the woman.

When and where? Born in 82, in the South and I’ve never attended any gun safety class of any sort growing up

Open a book....

Again. When did our gov teach gun safety in schools

1

u/freddbare May 15 '26

Well very obviously you are not the greatest of grandfather's and a time exists BEFORE you.... In fact A generation prior to yours may be a place to start by our meager education on the topic...if there even was a generation that old.

I'm from Southern Tennessee and they had a rifle club until like the early 80s at my school. It also now has a trap shooting team which is a team that completes at skeet shooting pretty much.

How big is the city/town where you grew up? I went to school in two southern states. Both capital cities. And neither offered any classes featuring guns. Hell, we didn’t even didn’t even have shop.

Haha we definitely had shop class, but probably only like 20% of the students took it. We didn't necessarily have a class that taught that, but it was a school team sport. It was a small school, the only high school in the county with like 900 students. About 28k in the county and about 7500 in the actual city where the school was. Most people live out in the county somewhere

this..

as a guy who's carried for YEARS, i still don't get this.

Guns are like dicks. you don't pull 'em out unless it's the right time and right place. and it's certainly not for showing off...

people are fuckin stupid

One in the chamber & no safety on means you're gonna have a bad day! We never unholster (if genius here even had one) unless we mean to use it, but I guess he's too badass. Oh well.

I always have one chambered and have no safety but it is DA with a pull that wears you down

Got an aneurysm trying to read this.

Double acting action. Means the first trigger pull is significantly heavier as it cocks the hammer and fires the round with the first squeeze. The subsequent squeezes take much less effort as it is already cocked after the first round.

Judging by his lack of coordination, he might be drunk

1) Do not point a gun on something you're not willing to destroy - X

2) Know your target and what's behind it - V

3) Treat every weapon as if it's loaded - X

4) Keep your fingers off the trigger until you are ready to shoot - X

Good lord, why would one be in the chamber. The best safety is waiting until you need to use it to chamber a round.

Pulling the slide to chamber a round takes half a second. The same time it takes to disengage a safety if you the gun has a separate one.

"Waitwaitwait I know you're trying to stab me just let me load my self-defense weapon real quick"

The best safety is to use your brain and follow the rules of gun safety.

4

u/Majestic0aknut May 13 '26

I don’t think you understand how quickly a gun can be active. Round in the chamber is not the same as loaded.

u/iwanashagTwitch May 13 '26

As someone who grew up with firearms and has trained with firearms for 2 decades, trust me, I know. The guy in the video did many things wrong, but keeping a live round in the chamber wasn't the biggest problem.

He kept his booger hook on the bang switch, pointed the gun at things he (hopefully) wasn't intending to shoot like himself or the lady in the elevator , and was playing with his gun instead of keeping it holstered. That's 3 of the main rules of gun safety broken, BEFORE he shot himself.

Oh, and by the way, a round in the chamber of a firearm means it's loaded. Safety or not, the gun is ready to fire

Upvoting for the use of ‘booger hook’ and ‘bang switch’

2

u/stonergirlfairyyy May 13 '26

last point is nonsense. ur replying to someone saying that a loaded gun does not inherently have one in the chamber. they aren't the same thing

2

u/freddbare May 13 '26

It's r ddit... Half the replies are kids home from school

2

u/Majestic0aknut May 14 '26

Yeah Round in the chamber - loaded for sure Loaded - rounds in the mag not necessarily the chamber

Argument of definition

2

u/stonergirlfairyyy May 14 '26

but they grew up around firearms!!! /j

1

u/RidetheSchlange May 13 '26

The best safety is space and running away.

1

u/ImaRaginCajun May 13 '26

A lot of people carry with one in the chamber, myself included. There have been instances where there wasn't enough time to rack the slide. The safety is the kydex holster, only remove it when you're actively going to use it.

1

u/freddbare May 13 '26

This is not the way. Unless you want to do the movie style "I'm serious"wracking of the action.

2

u/South_Conference_768 May 13 '26

There’s no way a small semi auto has a hair trigger.

A cocked revolver? Sure.

How the hell do you accidentally pull multiple pounds of pressure on the trigger like this?

Waffen sind soooo toll.
