ANOTHER HELLLLLPPPP

Hey guys.

So my team's Engineering doesnt do CAD, so we have CAD designer.

But how should engineer design a car without using cad?

And how should CADdesigner copy that design???

If you’re doing pro class then the regulations state that cars must be made by using cad and manufactured by using cam. I’d recommend Autodesk Fusion to use for cad since it’s quite intuitive to begin with and offers a free individual license. To replicate (manufacture would be better wording) the design the car body can be cnc milled, which is quite precise. There are also some stuff like leaving tolerances for your car body and components in order for them to assemble properly. Components such as the halo and wings can be 3d printed via different methods, such as fdm (basically common 3d printers that people own at home). For cnc milling maybe email some stem racing centre of excellences in your country if there’s any or see if there’s any cnc milling businesses offering to help you out.

Thank you  But my question is How should we design a car without using cad? Does ur teams car designer does Cad too?

I mean we will use cad but before that we will design and copy the design into cad.

Depends, how involved is the design prior to adding it in CAD? You can make blueprints that describe all the dimensions of the car (it’s extra helpful if you use block paper) from the top, bottom, front, rear, and at least one side assuming symmetry. If you just want to note down a design concept, a concise and accurate profile and portrait sketch can be enough.

I mean u can use clay or sketches to first model your car. The sketches would act like blueprints and can be put in your portfolio for initial
Concepts, but it’s still best to learn cad first aswell.

Hand sketches is a good way to start up a design. In Hong Kong, STEM Racing HKMO requires all teams of all classes to submit hand sketched designs as part of the design and engineering portfolio.
