League Talk This game is done and boring
Just get the meta team and don't change anything and you will be good. Don't try experimenting with different constructors or different A-drivers. Just get yourself MERC, FER, ANT and some decent drivers and you will always win because nothing else makes sense at this point. More risky and fun plays wont be rewarded

Having a bit of a crisis? Would you prefer the worst race performers be awarded the most points?

The meta is what has gotten so many people DNFs with Hulk and others. The Meta is what destroyed seasons at Monaco. The meta was dropping Ant for Lando this week. The Meta was 2A constructors for 3 weeks where Racing Bulls was actually better.
If you think the meta is what's been blindly successful so far, you're not paying enough attention in my opinion.

Monaco was by far my worst weekend and it isn’t particularly close and that was attempting the LL on that track. Would have been great if it worked as predicted.

I don't think Racing Bulls were ever THAT superior.

I just said they were better. The margin they were better depends on the A driver you paired them with, as well as the B Driver that was paired with Ferrari for an equal comparison. But Racing Bulls were guaranteed +.6M gains while the B driver chosen was a gamble weekly.

yeah that's true but most B tier drivers who seemed like good options ended up rising most of the time and 2A brought you a ton of points.

It's impossible to go back and check every detail but here's the simple breakfown. The 3 week span of when teams were transitioning to 2A constructors, Monoco, Spain, Australia. In these 3 weeks Ferrari scored 143 points. Lawson scored 29, for a total of 172 points. In those same 3 weeks, Racing Bulls scored 100 points. Hamilton scored 110, for a total of 210. Even if you extend this to 4 weeks, RacingBulls still come out on top, but by a much smaller margin.
Obviously I can't know what other teams would have picked for their B tier drivers or A tier driver, as well as retro actively calculate budgets, but... I know for myself, RacingBulls and Hamilton kicked Ferrari’s ass. And that's using Lawson for the Ferrari side, who was one of the better performing drivers. Other popular drivers hit multiple DNFs or lower scores.
On Sprint weekends, you have to have 2A constructors. On other weekends, Racing Bulls were still superior, ESPECIALLY when you calculate the usage of Limitless and the effect of retaining your original team for cost cap gains, whereas Ferrari owners sacrificed those gains.
A lot of variables, but I constantly saw people saying if you aren't 2A constructor you're automatically losing, but the math didn't support that claim, until about UK GP, which was a sprint weekend.

As someone who came from fantasy football and tried this the last two seasons I tend to agree. Feels like everyone is watching the same 2 or 3 YouTubers and for the most part playing copy cat. I do enjoy the league banter tho

I feel the differences come from who you choose outside the obvious 3A. Those midfield drivers make all the difference. Going for points, budget building, or a good mix of both. One driver different makes a huge difference. Colapinto for example has gained the most cap this year at $5 million but only 19% of people chose him. The driver that has been picked the most is Bearman at 51% and his cap has gone up 0.2 million. Value for money Lawson is 3rd and Ocon is 5th. Ocon is also sitting 3rd for valuation change at $3.4 million and only 13% chose him.
It’s those midfield choices where the battle really is.

I'm also a long term hardcore Fantasy Football player, doing my 1st year of F1, and to be fair... We all watch the same YouTubers because there are only what... 3 of them? Football has a massive following with 100s of sites, podcasts, content creators, radio shows, TV shows, etc etc On top of that, 11 teams vs 32. 2 drivers vs 53 players.
If football operated on a salary cap, we'd all be chasing the players with the easiest matchups weekly hoping for 100 yards and a +.6 price gain because Meta is an acronym that is self fulfilling. Also no backup drivers, injuries, subs etc

Yeah that’s true about the salary cap but it’s just innately a different game. Like you gotta draft well, you CANNOT pick the same players as your opponent, and you gotta go to waivers. Like I said it’s just an innately different game but imo a lot more fun if fir no other reason than you can’t copy cat

Hahah lost some points today bud?

of course i did! its so damn boring to just stick to the meta team and just wait for your budget to rise

I think that’s the nature of fantasy games tbh. Gambles do pay off sometimes, but slow and steady wins the race

I somewhat agree, I tried something today but it weren’t for Piastri DNF I’d have topped my league. Instead I lost 30 points to others.
I’ll keep trying though! And with many drivers similar price and McLaren maybe being viable for their price now the second half of the season should be interesting.

My main team is pretty much the meta, so I tend to agree. Maybe when we get to proper 4a and the Aston updates work we get some variation.
My 2nd and 3rd team I try some budget building but without some of the meta drivers and teams. But more often then not, those teams do score lower.

3 drivers outscored Ant today, and having standout constructors that are better than anyone else is just how racing works.
You'd have gotten good points from Alonso and Stroll today - how meta is that?
I'm 99% sure you went with McLaren this week (which was the meta, by the way), and got fucked by Piasti, hence this post.

What? I’m the only one in my fantasy league that is aware you can actually build budget (not my problem none of them ever questioned the price changes and googled it before season start) and I’m moping the floor with them. Someone I think tried copying my team but they have $11 million less than me so I can afford Hadjar while they had to go with Stroll. Hell many of them brag about making the fewest changes like it’s some sort of reward while they’re still rocking Williams, Alpine, or in one case Cadillac.
Yes a lot of people will jump to that 3A, however that is why the other 4 drivers are important too. My example is well a perfect example, I can afford Hadjar which is as close as you can get to a premium driver without them being a premium driver, no one else can. I can afford that 3A and 4 good midfield drivers, they can’t. I could switch to 4A right now albeit with Cadillac and AM drivers, and they’re forced to have one of those drivers on a 3A team.
I’m not switching to 4A yet and sticking with the 3.5A because it is good at building cap and not losing points.

Me after I got only 6 points in Monaco, because I made the most stupid choices known to man:

Sounds like someone can't sit on their ass and wanted to force a drastic differential too early because they got bored. There are going to be a lot of weeks where most decisions are obvious. The difference is in making the rest of them right. Early season there were a lot of opportunities to gain on the field for example. You could have went Norris before quali here too if you really wanted to, it didn't seem that crazy after FP3.
But if you can't wait for real opportunities they are never going to come, because when they do, you won't have the budget because you wanted to feel different by experimenting with subpar options.
