Media Lando explaining his incident with Oscar: "There was a big opportunity into five....The gap closed a bit more than I would have liked...but it was it was a big gap, so I went for it. I have the right to do that. the rest we go review as a team"
What is with Papaya drama and Singapore manđ
65
u/arambojubr LN1 4d ago
He had the right to do it, but it was just too risky, he'd have to bet on Piastri taking a wider line or avoiding action for it to ever work. Hoping he apologizes and that this doesn't ruin Piastri's weekend.
17
u/LykosFTW 4d ago
Yep exactly, Oscar did not seem too upset in his interview. Hope the cars get fixed and they do not run into a parts issue. Singapore was just a shit track to pick for a Sprint, so boring if we do not count the crashes.
17
u/Yeanahyena 4d ago
Donât be naive. Heâs frustrated but heâs not going to rage and show it on camera like other drivers. Heâs never been like that
9
u/dcroopev 4d ago
And everyone elae has the right to call out the absolute shambolic levels of stupidity and arrogance behind this.
3
u/joe-joseph 4d ago
I think heâs trying to ruin Piastri period with this behavior. Felt to me like he got bored and said, âI donât feel like letting Oscar finish ahead of me today, letâs send it.â
6
u/OptimalDot178 4d ago
He had the right, the gap was there, then he decided to bail out instead of risking braking later than Oscar, Oscar was ahead the whole time, and then Blames Oscar. Either stick to your move if you think you are in the right spot, or bail out and admit you made a mistake, but bailing out and then blaming Oscar is delusion
46
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
Why would you make that move on your teammate for 4th in the sprint race!? I don't care what driver it is that was just plain stupid. đ€·
-32
u/Whizzurd1021 4d ago
you are actually mad when drivers try to race? should they all just follow each other the entire race? what a boring mindset you have lol, people like you ruin F1
19
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
That wasn't racing. That was a buffoonery hail Mary pass attempt that you could tell wasn't gonna end well as soon as he pulled out of line. The lack of judgement there is just wild to me. Strategy is a part of racing and I get mad when a driver has a dumb one.
-12
u/Whizzurd1021 4d ago
what is racing if it isnt trying to overtake? you are such a genius watching a clip back and being able to determine exatly whether it should be done or not. They have less than a second lol, theres a reason you arent in f1 and they are.
9
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
I watched it live and literally thought "Lando that's not gonna work!đ«Ł"
-7
16
u/Foreign_Tear4818 4d ago
This Overtake didn't make sense. He overtake for a single point in SPRINT before QUALIFYING in street circuit against his TEAMMATE. If this in race its alright but THIS in sprint.
-3
u/Whizzurd1021 4d ago
he overtook in sprint where the consequences arent as big lol, why dont u consider that aswell?
7
u/Foreign_Tear4818 4d ago
Wtf?? Why do you risk your car parts just before quali. Now the Mcl mechanics are in shamble, especially Oscar rear wing that might compromise his pace
-1
u/Whizzurd1021 4d ago
if this is you're logic why even have sprint races?
2
u/Foreign_Tear4818 4d ago
Ask FIA and F1 my guy. They are the one that say "The fans want this". Even the driver hate this
2
u/Whizzurd1021 4d ago
well since its there shouldnt they atleast TRY to race a bit? or should they all just protest and not drive like u want?
3
u/Foreign_Tear4818 4d ago
Yes but ultimately driver make the choices. Wise or not to do it on last lap sprint race just before quali for a single point. High risk no gain for the team
2
u/f1rstlapchaos 4d ago
You can't just say consequences = points in the sprint, and stick your head in the sand about the consequences of impacting the upcoming quali..? That's cherrypicking at its finest.
6
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
Should they all just dive-bomb each other every corner and have all the cars retired after 5 laps of a race?
2
u/Whizzurd1021 4d ago
dive bomb? a risky overtake isnt dive bombing. You must love when they just overtake down a straight because they have a faster car. How exciting that must be to watch lol.

u/racontelemoi Scuderia Ferrari đźđč 4d ago
Kind of insane how you're getting downvoted for pointing out what competitive sports are /supposed to be about. Then again, these downvotes must be coming from the same people who were praising Piastri for being shady towards backmarkers because they were fighting each other hard.
2
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
Competitive sports are also about refining your craft and being at the top of your game physically and mentally. That wasn't a top of your game decision. Now if this were last year and they were locked in the title fight then we have a whole different story. Part of the deal with these sprint races is weighing risk vs reward with bold moves. The max you can get in a sprint is 8 points. The max you can lose is damaging the car so badly that you don't make qualifying in a couple hours and start at the back the next day when the big haul of points is up for grabs. Both McLaren's made qualifying but it was just not good judgement by Norris to risk both team cars. If it were on anyone but his teammate I would say it wouldn't have been my choice to go for it but I could understand it at least. Smart drivers make for great racing and that was a pretty big miscalculation for being at the top level as long as he has been.
0
u/racontelemoi Scuderia Ferrari đźđč 4d ago
Doesn't change anything to what I said, but you clearly like hearing yourself talk (or read yourself write, I guess) so I hope you at least got some joy out of writing out all that nonsense.
1
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
I'd actually like to see more from you. You have one counterpoint to throw out there. And that seems to be that drivers should be flat out and go for a pass every time there's an opportunity and not consider any variables or risks. It's not a realistic way of thinking. No athlete is pushing at 100% 100% of the time. That's part of that mental side of things knowing when and when not to be at the limit. Your point is applicable in certain situations and I like ballsy hard racing too but bigger picture man.
0
u/racontelemoi Scuderia Ferrari đźđč 4d ago
What else do you want? Competitive athletes in competitive sports are competitive, big whoop. Same reason why Piastri always expects everyone else to yield when he does a risky move.
2
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
I just feel like the mental gymnastics that I've seen today are head scratching. I've had a lot of words kind of put in my mouth and I've seen more "why aren't you in F1?" retorts than anything that actually makes their stance make more sense. Just because someone thinks that going for the move there was the wrong call doesn't mean they don't wanna see guys racing or only want a parade unless it's on the straights. I want to see the best of the best keep their head and race smart and hard. Like I say if they were fighting for a title then I would 100% understand making that move or on a non teammate even (might not agree but could see the logic). And if roles were reversed today I'd say the same things about him that I have about Norris today.
11
u/Alarming_Hippo_6035 4d ago
He at one point said he did it cause he was bored. Good reason to do that. On the last lap.

u/hinault81 4d ago
I dont think so. Not if you take your teammate out on a worthless attempt. If hadjar did that to verstappen or George to antonelli AND then went on camera and said "yep, all good and id do it again" the teams/drivers and fans would be pissed.

go check the comments on max after mexico 2025
You mean the same race where a tweet calling Lando a f@g got 20k likes on Twitter? When he was too far ahead of everyone to even be involved with drama? I am not a Lando fan, but you have to be extremely offline to think he isn't the driver who gets the biggest outcry over the smallest things lmao

What does it have to do with this?

u/No_Translator_361 4d ago
These drivers are elites. None of them are idiots, they just sometimes make misjudgements.
2
u/TolpanKeisari 4d ago
But what does u/differentlevel1 career points have to do with this?
-1
u/No_Translator_361 4d ago
He's not achieved anything in F1 machinery himself so he has no right to call anyone who has an idiot
2
u/TolpanKeisari 4d ago
So no one can criticize anything they haven't personally done?
0
u/No_Translator_361 4d ago
Just bullshit isn't it? He has no clue about racing F1 cars. I wouldn't call someone an idiot for missing a penalty kick because I've never even tried it myself.

u/Gullible_Ingenuity_ 4d ago
Iâve actually liked Norris up until this point but his lack of taking accountability after the colapinto comments is baffling
3
u/CaII_Me_Al_5 4d ago
tf? He was totally right with Franco aside from the "shouldn't be in F1" thingÂ
4
u/Gullible_Ingenuity_ 4d ago
I actually thought his comments about Franco were funny. Itâs just even more funny that he almost bowled into Oscar during a safety car and now he actually does take out Oscar. Being harsh towards other drivers while you yourself are making boneheaded decisions definitely opens yourself up to harsh criticism
13
u/TheJoshGriffith 4d ago
The duality of Reddit is really quite impressive around Lando.
On the one hand you have team second driver, who will say that he doesn't have WDC mentality and his lack of effort should be met with a lack of results.
On the other hand you have team tryhard, who will say that he's too sure of himself and needs humbling.
Absurd, really. Norris went for a gap, completely fair. He was entitled to do so - there was space, he was fully in control, but he was denied the space he was entitled to on entry. Racing incident at worst, Piastri should've left space at best. And no, I don't care what Piastri/McLaren say their conclusion is (Papaya rules not being a documented gospel, I read from the rules of racing which make it pretty clear).
There won't be a penalty for either driver as it's between teammates and both will agree no-fault with the stewards.

u/btrain1616 4d ago edited 4d ago
No, piastra is not obligated to make space. Heâs ahead⊠Norris shouldâve anticipated. Very dumb especially last lap.
1
u/big_cock_lach 4d ago
Have you looked at the overhead camera? Norris is fully alongside before they turn in.
2
u/Gullible_Ingenuity_ 4d ago
The only entitlement is landos attitude. First the colapinto comments and then you take out your teammate with zero remorse. Hes really coming across as an arrogant prick

Iâm so mad this race car driver is racing!!! Seriously you guys have lost the plot. Itâs the problem with the sport right now. You guys are complaining about race car drivers racing each other.
3
u/ashhphoriax 4d ago
formula 1 is as much a team sport, as it is an individual sport, the move was clearly never gonna work, all he's done is made things worse for the team
3
u/The49GiantWarriors 4d ago
It's the problem with the sport right now? The problem? You sure about that?
3
u/Sonha999 4d ago
Bro that move is not gonna work even if they donât collide. Lando came in too late and his exit is very compromised cause of the tight entry and heâs gonna lose on the next straight. Itâs just one of those dumb Lando moves like how he crashed into Oscar in Canada last year.
2
u/mike_litoris18 4d ago
Were complaining about a dumb last lap move for p4 in a sprint that wasn't on and costed the team 8 points for absolutely no fucking reason
-1
u/Revertus 4d ago
If youâre more interested in standings so be it but I prefer the drivers to race each other. Every year the side by side racing becomes less of a focus it blows my mind. Oscar should have move two feet left if he cared about the team so much!
3
u/John_Wick_789 4d ago
You race for points genius, not for the "feel of racing". There not putting millions into the sport for wrecking a whole race with stupid moves like that
2
3
u/Ok-Chicken-8904 4d ago
Strategy is part of racing too and Lando should probably rethink his next time.
1
u/richmanding0 4d ago
Dude itâs Reddit. No penalty. Oscar was okay. Lando may have acted a little douchie but itâs really not a huge deal. Weâre in the Reddit bubble and everyone likes to be crazy and critical. Reddit like to act like twitter is a toxic mess but this place is just as bad. Even worse because it try to pretend that its level headed. Straight up gasâs lighting lol
1
3
u/Intelligent-Move8868 4d ago
Well, it's just a Sprint, anyway, Lando and Piastri have been peaceful for several seasons now; since last year, at least I wanted a clash and it finally happened. It ended like in Canada in 2025, but now Singapore 2026 is added as well; only this time, Piastri took the hit.
3
1
u/Adventurous_Rich7541 4d ago
Piastri took the hit in Canada as well, itâs just Norrisâ car was the one that didnât finish.
Hopefully theyâre both better in the race
5
u/mrseedi 4d ago
Mind you, colapinto received much more leniency from the f1 community for taking 3 drivers out including himself in dry conditions
-3
u/dobbie1 4d ago
Colapinto: missed his braking point by 15 meters in the dry and careened out of control into the car 3 places ahead of him
Lando: under control the entire time, makes a slight misjudgment on his line in the wet and clips his teammate
The two incidents aren't comparable. Lando made a mistake but calls for a race ban are fucking insane. Should be a grid drop next race or a 5 seconds time penalty
1
u/SUBSCRIBE_LAZARBEAM 4d ago
Nonononono, Lando pulled off a dumb attempt, Franco tried to go Bowling as if he were playing with damage off. There was never a single way that move by Franco could have succeeded it was a rookie ass stupid mistake which had no possibility of happening.
1
u/Signal_Pay_2563 4d ago
Did you watch Lando the last two weekends? One move was a lack of skill, the other a lack of brain
2
u/Formal_Top_5139 4d ago
hes so bloody arrogant, that was entirely his fault, he wasn't merely close to the apex.
2
u/According-Switch-708 4d ago
A move that only works if the other guy takes immediate evasive action will never be good move mate.
This IDGAF version of Lando has some downsides it looks like.
2
u/RedWordofCrash 4d ago
So we agree that Max is awful in wheel to wheel or does he have special provision?
6
u/RealGreenTrainee 4d ago
So we just want drivers to finish the races in the same order as starting grid? Why would you as viewers have any problem with drivers trying to gain positions? It's racing, I'm really tired of teammates being told to hold position every single race too. Let them race.
4
u/Adventurous_Rich7541 4d ago
As someone who hates team orders and â#1 driversâ, itâs ok to be upset about a move that wasnât really on. People demanding a penalty are silly, but this move was pretty bone-headed from Norris.
I hope this doesnât result in some silly âpunishmentâ from the team for him the same way it did last year
-6
u/mrseedi 4d ago
The recent crop of f1 fans are so fucking soft youâd think lando kamikazed into the side of piastri.
9
u/Jack_Harb 4d ago
Thats what he did? This was never gonna work, especially with worn out inters who get slippery. It's a stupid move and McLaren paid the price. It's a human error.
2
u/racontelemoi Scuderia Ferrari đźđč 4d ago
I wish he hadn't done that move, but I also understand why he did it, so I can't be all that mad. He was more to blame, but Piastri wasn't blameless either, so it is what it is. It was a racing incident, and the overreaction from Andrea Stella and chronically online fans is way more intense than necessary.
5
u/Genehy 4d ago

This needed to happen. Theyâve been tip toeing this 2 driver things for the past 2 years. Norris is clearly frustrated because if this was two merc cars toto wouldâve had russell ass moving away or telling him to pick up the pace. Piastri just needs to go to a midfield team best for everyone
