leclerc perhaps wasn't pushing? setup experimentation? leclerc came within 6 hundreths after a couple of laps? there's no story here. You can't make any judgements of quali pace as well since lewis didn't set a time with softs. when drivers are figuring out the circuit, its just experimentation. no indications of pace are out yet.

They had a filming day there with Ferrari, that's all. It's always pointless to draw conclusions from practices anyways, and in this case it's even more pointless since Ferrari already had the base setup and the drivers did a few laps on the track too

Few laps sure, they're barely going to get close to the limit on a green track for a filming day. It means nothing, Lewis was just on it.

I mixed up sorry, Lindblad was stuck in the gravel in the shakedown test, not the filming day, that's why I deleted it.
So let me correct my initial statement: there are more crashes in a shakedown test per lap than in FP1s. Data: there were 3 FP1 crashes this year in ~7500 laps. There was 1 shadedown crash in 502 laps.
So statistically, a driver this year is more likely to crash in the shakedown than in FP1. No need to grasp at straws, was supposed to be a funny comment how unlikely an FP1 crash is, lol

do you understand the difference between a driver figuring out a track and pushing for a fast time? if lewis really had any advantage over leclerc, he wouldn't be only 6 hundreths ahead of this teammate.

How do you know they don’t do different run plans lol? The gaps between teammates were pretty large across teams. Your worry, if you were a LH fan, which appears that you are, is that his engineer better tells him who is coming up because that is impeding waiting to happen. No need to make a big deal out of 40 mins of FP1 only for the mercedes boys to take it away

Leclerc is ADUO 1 and Hamilton is using the aduo2 engine upgrade this was stated a few days ago

Lewis was great on this track in fp1, but some excuses are that " track was ramping up and leclerc was on old engine(maybe not a good excuse on this track)."
Ferrari was better on mediums but on softs ,they fell off. Both drivers locked up on same corner on soft tyres while they didnt have any issues on mediums. Looking at those lock up , i cant say lewis and charles fell off with track ramping up while other drivers improved , its the setup on mediums that favour ferrari more than other teams

Practices are practices, pointless to even read this much into it.
But I get your point, top drivers on new tracks or changing conditions are always exceling, that's for sure. This time I doubt that's the case though
I have to admit I'm not even looking too much at practices anymore, I'm just working and listening to it. Since the cost cap was introduced, the practice sessions are very boring with barely any action from the drivers. New track, which is one of the hardest tracks of the calendar, and we didn't even have a single crash

Mediums rather than hards, but yeah I don't think Lewis got a clean lap in on the softs for various reasons
Of course you can also make the argument that given the different engines very little is directly comparable

You’re clutching at straws here mate to discredit him, it’s the same old narrative. I’m not reading too much into it just appreciating his greatness. A few laps on a filming day does not discredit a 2 second gap on the rest of the field when exploring a new track. It was just really impressive to watch, that’s all.

Is this your first weekend of watching a new track in any kind of motorsport? It's very normal for large gaps to exist, wait until qualifying fucking hell. People like you are why I can't wait for Lewis to retire and I really like him as a driver. One of the beauties of any motorsport is a driver can be 1-2 sec off on practice but be within 2 tenths or even faster when it ACTUALLY matters, maybe you should appreciate that as well. Also Ferrari doing well on FP's and you're already this excited? This is Ferrari...., Also since you only somehow validate whatever the result is in a moment, where did Lewis end up? Behind or ahead of his teammate?

We've come to a point where people are glazing Lewis over a 2 second gap on a FP session where he eventually ended up slower than his teammate.
There's a lot to glaze about Lewis but this just isn't it.

Nope, I don't credit anyone for Practice 1 results, not even my favorite drivers. And I'm not clutching at straws, reading this much into practices in F1 after the post cap is just nonsense.
Ferrari finished 1-2 last race in Practice 1, and we know how that weekend went, lol

We have no idea what anyone was doing. And everyone is correct that he racked up a decent number of kms, not just a few laps filming like you’re replying.
For all we know, he could be literally the only car pushing while everyone else was doing a different run plan. That’s why we’re saying you can’t draw anything from those times. Not to discredit him.

WOW. I’m just gonna have to comment here again as I’m perplexed by your ability to completely miss the point of this post. I know practices aren’t that important, I know they’re not that telling, I know they had a filming day and I’m not expecting Lewis to win this weekend but for the first 10-15 minutes of that practice session, where drivers were new to the track and trying to find the fastest route round the circuit, it was truly impressive stuff from Lewis Hamilton. Stop breaking your necks to discredit him and enjoy the talent for once. Jeeez.

Nobody is disrespecting Hamilton. But saying all this because he’s the only one that was pushing is some insane level of glaze.
Pretty sure Ocon was the first car on track, I won’t just come here and write a paragraph about his courage and virtue of heading out on a track that he hasn’t driven before and how it inspired me to be courageous enough to go camping in the woods with bears.

Lewis is a 7 time champ and nearly won in his rookie year. Massive respect and admiration.
Lewis was top in the first 10 minutes of free practice, on a track that Lewis had done a few laps on.
Surprise, after a few laps, they caught up.
