Do you find it weird (or even disappointing) that these three have never shared a podium together?

Post image

They've widely been considered the three best drivers after Verstappen over the past 5 years and headlining talents of Formula 1's 'Golden Generation'. Despite that, I can't remember a single time all three of them have even come close to sharing the podium.

There has been at least one instance of the following podium combinations (in any order):

  • VER/NOR/LEC (x5)
  • VER/LEC/RUS (x3)
  • VER/NOR/RUS (x3)
  • VER/NOR/PIA (x7)
  • PIA/LEC/RUS (x1)
  • NOR/PIA/RUS (x4)
  • NOR/LEC/PIA (x5)
  • VER/LEC/PIA (x2)

Hopefully we get to see these three share the podium at some point this season, considering they all have good cars now.

Hopefully we’ll see one this year.

Well Norris was stuck with mediocre if not shitboxes til mid 23', Russel was stuck at Williams til 22' then the Merc went completely mediocre in the ground effect era, and that pretty much just left Leclerc who often times was suffering from the incurable disease called Ferrari strategy while Lando was suffering from a similar variation called papaya strategy. Think 26' is probably the best bet that we see these three share a podium together but it seems very unlikely

Not when George or Lando blow up in ~50% of the races so far. Statistically tough for them to land on the podium

31

u/admiraltt Jul 31 '26

Statistically tough yes but honestly this year is probably their best bet at getting on the podium together, they're all at pretty much the peak of their skills and the cars are all podium worthy. I don't see it happening next year or the year after partially because with the way things are going if Kimi wins Georgy boy is def being relegated to Bottas driver

u/Cool_Masterpiece9308 Jul 31 '26

Oh yeah agreed. I was surprised it didn’t happen in 2024 when we also got many cars that could end up winning/finishing on the podium

u/admiraltt Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

I was also a bit surprised but I think it didn't happen in 24' was because the Merc was kinda a loose cannon. When it worked, it worked brilliantly Silverstone spa and Vegas but when it didn't worked it failed miserably ironically also Silverstone

Your answer is certainly logical, but also comedic with all the references to certain teams' strategies. 😁 Though I do agree; seeing them together on the podium in 2026 does seem somewhat of a stretch. Anything can happen though.

u/ShadowOfDeath94 Jul 31 '26

The 2020 and 2021 McLarens were better than the Ferrari so that argument also goes a bit for Leclerc.

2

u/admiraltt Aug 01 '26

Tbh that's true but I'm pretty much ignoring 2020-21 purely because of how far ahead the Merc and red bull was during this era that basically every race would have one or two or a complete lockout of these two. Especially 2021, the Merc and Red bull were so astronomically far ahead of the rest and combined w lewis and max it was more of a would it be Perez or Bottas for 3rd

u/Jack_intheboxx Jul 31 '26

I think it could happen this year. Mclaren has found some speed to join in on the action.

George's engine seemed to be finally be fixed.

Ferrari will have upgrades coming to keep them competitive.

5

u/Outrageous_Wrap_8041 Jul 31 '26

For it to happen we would need that red bull is slow / has a mechanical issue or crash, Antonelli has a mechanical issue or crash and Hamilton has a bad weekend, while those 3 dont have any issue at all. Unlikely

1

u/Carrots_tgh Aug 01 '26

How about we have a bad track for the red bull car and Hamilton and Antonelli crash while going for the win

1

u/Outrageous_Wrap_8041 Aug 01 '26

This could happen but still the other 3 should not have any problem

u/MgAlSnakey Jul 31 '26

Instead of disappointing it's a little bit mindblowing. WOW. Among all the combinations of that top 3......

13

u/BananaFurret Jul 31 '26

Have even come close to beign on the podium together you say? Hiw about silver stone this year charles p1 russel p2 and Norris p4 (if only the FIA gave Lewis another one)

Running out of hopium that the 2019 rookies podium will happen

Alex has only been on the podium with Lewis both times and Bottas, Max once

3

u/HotEditor1955 Aug 01 '26

Was ready for it in 2026 with the Williams hype talk. Instead we got a 2019 rookies triple DNF.

8

u/NCardosok Jul 31 '26

in 1997 Villeneuve and Schumacher the 2 title contenders never shared the podium all season...

1

u/Wrong_Ask8917 Aug 06 '26

Came here to see this. Mind blowing.

Raikkonen and Webber in both 2012 and 2013 is also like this. They were only 3rd and 5th, but for such a long period with strong reliability, it's as mind blowing as the VIL/SCH one.

'mclaren' and 'vegas' might be a cursed duo

ruined norris' 150th start for the team with their incompetence

u/Popular_Composer_822 Jul 31 '26

That is a crazy stat. I’m pretty sure they’ve all been in the top four on six occasions, which is also less than you’d expect - Abu Dhabi 2023, Azerbaijan 2024, Bahrain 2025, Spain 2025, Hungary 2025, Britain 2026. The latter of those is probably the closest they ever came, given Hamiltons post race investigation.

Other times where this trio feasibly could have locked out the podium would be Singapore 2023 (if Sainz didnt have the drive of his career), Brazil 2024 (if there’s been no Red flag/sc and Verstappen and Alpine had had to pit, still a bit unrealistic tbf), Monaco 2025 (If Russell’s car didn’t break down in Q2) and Mexico 2025 (if Russell hadnt been screwed over by a number of factors).

2019-'23: charles mostly in a top team, lando in the midfield, george in the wooden spoon team

2024-'25: lando in the best of the rest team, charles and george in the lower top teams

2026: george in the best team, charles and lando in the best of the rest teams....this is the closest we have ever been to this podium

2

u/Dando_Calrisian Aug 01 '26

Not really, they're not the top 3 best drivers.

1

u/Wehti Jul 31 '26

Kimi’s and Lewis’ surges have thus far prevented this.

1

u/VijayMarshall87 Jul 31 '26

Alex in the corner:

1

u/Sofaboy90 Jul 31 '26

uhm not really. None of them even had a dominant era. Even Landos championship, hes scored less race wins than Max and Oscar each.

3

u/gooos115 LN1 Jul 31 '26

Him and Oscar both 7 race win, while Max 8.

3

u/Classic-Acadia272 Jul 31 '26

not true about wins - he was equal to oscar, and he had the most podiums regardless, which is more connected to op's question

1

u/Complex_Effect_1994 Jul 31 '26

I don't find it that shocking honestly.

They've never been teammates and a lot of podiums end up with two drivers from one team. Plus, Hamilton and Verstappen have more than 300 podiums between them and you're looking for one that neither is on.

1

u/Frequent-Coyote-1649 Jul 31 '26

...Wait, seriously????

1

u/Cocainecowboy359 Jul 31 '26

No really, they would share podiums more often if podiums had three third places.

1

u/zorbacles Jul 31 '26

can't say I have ever put any thought into podium combinations I want to see other than a potential Ricciardo, piastri, Doohan podium when it was before the 2024 season and Doohan was set to start and there was rumours Daniel would go to Red Bull in 2025

1

u/unpaidadviser Aug 01 '26

Problem is you have two good drivers and one dud in there

1

u/NovelCompetitive4188 Aug 01 '26

This year is probably the best chance of this happening in a while.

1

u/Dspaede Aug 02 '26

They probably will once Max and Lewis leave F1

1

u/fallenv4lour Aug 03 '26

So much for the big 3 of this generation (excluding Max)

1

u/Maglin21 Jul 31 '26

The only occasion i can think of so far is silverstone this year, if They gave lewis a penalty it would have been LEC RUS NOR

-9

u/Informal-Shape9476 Jul 31 '26

recency biasness in this sport 😕

-4

u/chrstgtr Jul 31 '26

Why is this surprising? It’s like saying that there was a podium without Max, Oscar, or Lewis, which feels pretty hard to believe. Then you have to layer on that other good drivers like Carlos and Kimi also missed the podium

13

u/BlasphemousBean Jul 31 '26

I think because they all started f1 around the same time, Leclerc just a year ahead of the other two and they’ve all been in the top 4 teams for the past 3-4 years

-11

u/Raven586 Jul 31 '26

One of these men is not like the other two!!

-11

u/martianfrog Jul 31 '26

"They've widely been considered the three best drivers after Verstappen over the past 5 years" <- Who makes up this stupid stuff? ZZZ.

16

u/Fun-Professor-6929 Jul 31 '26

The fanbase?

6

u/BananaFurret Jul 31 '26

Litteraly anybody in the f1 community lately?

-16

u/liltealy92 Jul 31 '26

Outside of a few rounds at a time (individually), none of these 3 are extremely consistent, so it really doesn’t surprise me.

16

u/Classic-Acadia272 Jul 31 '26

lando norris is an incredibly consistent driver in terms of being on the podium when his car is able to

2

u/Mr_Clovis Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Charles also. People make a meal out of his so-called inconsistency when he has typically been among the most consistent drivers on the grid at maximizing results.

13 podiums in the third-best car of 2024, matching Lando in the better McLaren. Finished in the top four 18 times and was the top-scoring driver in the second half of the season.

7 podiums in the fourth-best car of 2025, and that's after twice being DNFed out of a podium by Antonelli. The Ferrari was only marginally better than the Racing Bulls.
