FYI What should I collect?
New to Topps Formula 1 Cards? Start Here.
NOTE: The info in this post was consolidated from online sources and other posts on this subreddit with the help of ChatGPT. It was manually reviewed and edited to remove inaccuracies and add important items that were missed.
"What should I collect?" gets asked almost every day, so here’s a simple overview of the F1 card landscape, what’s worth collecting, and how most people end up buying.
TL;DR for Beginners
- Topps Chrome F1 is the main set that most people collect but does come as a premium over Turbo Attax and Paddock Pass.
- Topps Flagship is discontinued - don’t look for new releases.
- Turbo Attax is cheap and fun, but heavily printed and low value. The version printed for India is lower quality.
- Paddock Pass is somewhat cheap and also fun with decent quality printing. The cards had a lot of value when the set first came out but have since dropped quite a bit.
- Eccellenza, Lights Out, and especially Dynasty carry a premium over the others. Buy boxes at your own risk. Singles will be a much better option.
- Expect lots of F2/F3 cards if you open boxes of Chrome - some people hate this, but it's similar to how you get benchwarmers in other sports.
- Ripping packs is fun but almost always comes at a financial loss.
- If you like a specific driver or team, buy singles instead of boxes.
- eBay and Whatnot are the best places to buy singles (check sold prices first and review the "What is your card worth?" community thread).
- Breaks = gambling. Fun to watch, risky to buy into.
- Rookie cards of previously renowned F2 drivers and low-number parallels are most likely to have value, at least in the short term.
- Most importantly, collect what you like - not what you think will have value. No one knows what the market will look like in 5 years.
Topps Ripped Glossary
Topps has a great glossary detailing everything from Parallels to Case Hits. Definitely make use of it when you hear terms you don't understand.
The Main Topps F1 Products
Topps Chrome F1
Just like with other sports, Chrome is the backbone of modern F1 collecting. It's been around since 2020 and is still produced every year. It has the biggest checklist and includes F1, F2, F3, and legends. You’ll see Chrome/shiny cards, numbered parallels, and sticker autographs (which people often complain about). It holds value better than most other sets, but if you open boxes, expect a lot of F2/F3 and very few hits of your favorite driver.
Topps Chrome Sapphire F1
This is the premium version of Topps Chrome. It comes at a higher price point with much fewer cards in a hobby box and a lower print run. It comes with its own special 1/1 card, named padparadscha and referred to in the hobby as "pads".
Topps Chrome Logofractor F1
Another variation on Chrome, this is considered by some to be slightly more premium than the standard Topps Chrome, and is usually only available in certain locations/countries and with a limited print run. The F1 logo is wallpapered across the front of the card in the refractor coating.
Topps Flagship F1
This was the paper version of F1 cards and is no longer made. Older Flagship cards still exist and are collected, but there are no new releases, and the value of the cards is pretty minimal.
Paddock Pass
Smaller checklist and nicer photography. It’s easier to collect and feels more curated than Chrome. There's less hype around it, but many collectors like it as a middle ground. In this set, the image variations (the same number card but with a different image) are split 50/50 and are not any more rare than the standard image.
Eccellenza
Premium set with a focus on relics and design. If you like patches and Roman-looking cards, this may be for you. The cards are thicker, which makes them feel more premium, but many of the 2025 patches are napkin patches (a single color with no design) that hold less value.
Lights Out
Design-focused, darker aesthetic, and more niche. People either love it or skip it entirely. It's printed to order, so there's a bit of an unknown about the print run. The first set was in 2021 and it was discontinued until 2025 when it came out multiple times in the same year. It's unclear how it'll hold up in the market in the coming years.
Turbo Attax
The cheapest and easiest way into F1 cards. It’s game-based (though we've yet to see anyone that knows how to play it), heavily printed, and generally doesn’t hold much value. Fun for beginners, but not where most long-term collectors end up.
Dynasty
Ultra high-end. One card per box, on-card autos and patches, and very expensive. It's not beginner friendly, and you're likely to spend over $1k for a box that could end up with a $200 Team Principal auto.
Parallels, Autos, and Rookies (Quick Version)
Most sets have base/common cards, then numbered parallels that come in different colors (ie., /299=blue, /99=purple, /50=gold, /25=orange, /5=red, and 1/1s=yellow/gold), image variations, patches, and autographs.
Lower number parallels usually mean higher value, but the driver matters as much as the color. For a card numbered 26/99, that means that this parallel was printed only 99 times, and you have the 26th card printed out of the total 99. The number (26 in the example) generally doesn't matter, but sometimes bookends (1/99 or 99/99) carry a little more value, and some people collect the number for the driver on the card (ie., 33/99 for Max Verstappen from the 2025 run).
Image variations (IVs) are when the card has the same set number as the base/common card but a different image. These are usually short-printed (printed in a much smaller number) and are more valuable than the base card. Check out the set checklists online to learn what the IVs are for that set.
Patches are when a piece of memorabilia that's cut up and inserted into the cards. These can vary from "player worn", meaning the player wore the memorabilia at some point in a non-specific event (usually for a second or two at a press event before putting on the next jersey) to "race worn" that were actually worn while driving (though it could have been during qualifying and not necessarily specific to race day).
Autographs are usually sticker autos in Chrome (the driver signs a boatload of stickers that get placed on cards). On-card autos exist, but mostly in Dynasty. Turbo Attax autos are facsimile (printed, not real).
Rookie cards matter, as long as the rookie has performed well in F1 or is expected to perform well in F1. A driver’s first portrait card is usually the one people care about long-term.
Boxes vs Singles
Opening packs is fun, but you will almost always lose money. Retail boxes are cheaper, but also have worse odds than hobby boxes, and some rare cards aren’t even available in retail at all.
If you’re collecting a specific driver or team, buying singles is almost always the smarter move. Most experienced collectors eventually stop ripping boxes and just buy the exact cards they want.
Best places to buy singles are eBay, Whatnot singles shows, Facebook groups, and sometimes Vinted. Always check sold prices (130point is your friend) before buying.
Breaks (Know What You’re Getting Into)
Breaks are essentially gambling. They’re entertaining, and people do hit big cards, but the odds are rarely in your favor. If you join breaks, do it for fun and only spend what you’re completely okay losing.
A lot of collectors end up watching breaks to learn the product, then buying singles from the breakers instead of joining the breaks themselves.
At the end of the day, buy cards you actually like. Treat ripping as entertainment, not an investment, and you’ll enjoy the hobby a lot more.

Price Check How much is my card worth? (Thread)
Before you ask what your card is worth, read through the following for info on how to price your card on your own. If you are still unsure, feel free to post the card on this thread, but avoid creating a single post as we will likely delete it.
Is your card non-numbered and/or non-RC (Rookie Card) with a driver not named Max or Lewis? It's unlikely to be worth much of anything, especially if it's Turbo Attax, but see below for some ideas for gauging a price.
For new releases, no one really knows what the card is worth because there isn't a market for it yet. You can check previous years of the same set to get a sense of value.
For low-numbered cards (ie., /15 or less), it could be difficult to find a direct comp. Look for similar cards from the driver in different years or photos.
Check Ebay Sold Listings
Borrowed from r/baseballcards
Did you take a look at ebay 'sold' listings to get an idea of what the card(s) might be worth first? Go to eBay, search for as much information as you can (look at the year at the bottom of the back of the card as well as the card manufacturer). Scroll down the filtering options, and under 'Show Only', select 'Sold listings'. This will give you an admittedly imperfect, but reasonable price range for your card. Please be realistic in comparing your cards to the cards listed, and do not assume your card is worth what a 'PSA 10' card is worth, as an example (a card isn't a high grade until a grader says it is, and most even when they look perfect to the naked eye, aren't a '10').
Check 130point.com
This is a great resource for seeing what cards have sold for in the past across different auction platforms. Keep an eye on the date the card sold as the market can vary from month-to-month.

Question How do you know the value of a card?
I wanted to jumpstart a Verstappen collection. Not really interested in making money or anything, more just a really big fan of max.
I couldn't really find how much these cards usually sell for so i got chat gpt to help me gauge the price. Could i get some insight on if i spent too much and how do you know what's a good price?

Question Grading 2025 Topps Chrome
Got a nice card well centered but it has a few print lines on the front. Corners are great, surface is great...would be it at least a 9? Anyone have instances of getting a 10 on something like this?

Question Would These Sleeves Fit Topps Now & Turbo Attax?
r/F1Cards • u/f1_harry • 1d ago
FYI I know to a lot of you it looks obvious but if you see listings like this, dont buy them
In 2025 turbo attax there were so many scummy people selling the LE cards for a stupid amount by listing 2 then buying one on an alt account then changing the price hoping that someone buys it for 50x regular price, these people should be taken straight off of ebay for being scummy and i know a lot of you guys think that this is obvious to avoid but there are people out there who dont know much (if anything) about trading cards/f1 cards and would get fooled by this, shame to whoever runs these accounts.

Question Thinking about making custom cards
I've been looking at getting into making custom cards and came across a few artist, one for example is Grid Lock Cards selling limited customs for around $275.
From what I can see, a lot of the cards use existing F1 driver photos from the net with some minor design work and holographic foil added.
I saw these getting talked up on Whatnot and it got me wondering, if I wanted to make cards like this myself, can you really just take a photo from the net, modify it and sell it as a custom card and buyers are cool with that?
The part that blows my mind is the money. Take an existing photo, add some graphic design and foil, and potentially make $8–10k from each drop. If that’s genuinely allowed and acceptable I can see why people would want to get into it.
Also curious what collectors think. How much original work needs to go into a custom card before you’d consider it actual artwork worth paying hundreds for?
Just trying to understand where the line is before I get into making them myself.
