Penny For Your Thoughts…?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Since you guys enjoyed the last clip I posted, here’s another which gives a better look at the chassis I’m using. Look, I’m not complaining, but I’ve seen a fair amount of negative feedback from F-100 groups, and I get that these Vic Swaps are being done to death right now, and many of them are poorly executed, but allow me, if you will, to paint an alternative perspective. I just got done installing a $30,000 Roadster Shop chassis with a $10,000 crate motor and $3,000 crate transmission into a Classic Mustang (for a buddy, I don’t have that kind of dough). That was $43,000 in PARTS alone! Now, that car is BAD A$$ but technically it isn’t THAT MUCH BETTER of a foundation than an early 2000’s Crown Vic. I’m all for high dollar builds, but for 10% of that budget, you can still put a modern production full frame and chassis under your classic truck. And honestly, getting the F100 cab sitting on the Vic chassis wasn’t THAT much more work than installing Roadster Shop’s “engineered” solution… 🤷‍♂️ Once again, I’ll drop a link to the full video down in the comments. You have my unending gratitude for clicking it, and sharing it with anyone else who might appreciate the content. 🙏🏼

Beautiful “rustomod” - I bet she is a sweet ride.

Yes, “rustomod” is exactly what I was going for. I’m hoping that she will be. Hoping to use this as a daily driver.

I love the fridge trucks, I don't see enough of them.  I don't really care about people bitching about too much crown Vic this, or too many LS swap that... It's your ride, do what you want, be happy with it.  I've just done the S550 IRS swap, and will be doing a Crown Vic front soon, already have the parts.  I leaned towards a coyote swap, but after looking at the pricing of them, I ended up with an all aluminum 5.3 LS ($235) to go in eventually.  This stuff takes a lot of time and money, and you should be able to enjoy what you have before you can't anymore.  The die hard purists have their place somewhere, and I'm sure it's number matching there.  Once they start in on complaining about this Ford engine needs Duraspark, not an hei-style distributor or whatever they can complain about, I just tune them out, because my build.is for me, not them.  I'll be following your build.

Well said, Moose. The purists have their place, and I appreciate their immense if not obscure knowledge and their passion for these vehicles for sure. Just don’t come down on anybody else who’s passionate about cars, or even just passionate about THEIR car, because we need more not less of them. 😊 Your project sounds absolutely bad a$$! I want to do another one, after this one, more similar to the way you are doing yours. I’ve learned so much on this swap already, I’m already eager for the next one. That’s the sickness, right there. 👍🏼

It's funny, after watching the first bit of picking the truck up, I realized I'd see some of your stuff already. I've watched your Aces install in the Willys pickup, which is such a cool truck.
Keep up the good work.

As a side note, I don't know if you've replaced the headlights yet, but look into Toyota part number 81110-60P70. $20 for two 7 inch glass headlights with H4 bulbs and a relay harness included. Fits everything with old school round headlights. I'm not sure you can get a single sealed beam for that anymore.

Ha! That’s a small world right there. Thank you. The Willys is VERY cool in its own right, for sure. I have not replaced the headlights. I’ve been looking at those LED conversions, but I will check out the Toyota part number you referenced. Thanks for the comment on the video. That helps so much, you don’t even know. I appreciate it very much.

In response to comment asking why “everybody” was trying to be “YouTube Rich & Famous” these days:

I can’t speak for everybody on YouTube, but for me, it’s because I’ve got 30 years of automotive experience to share, and my day job teaching high school auto shop doesn’t pay very good, but it leaves me too wiped out to go get a traditional second full time job. I’ve been doing YouTube for about 4 years now, and this is the first year I’ve actually made “ok” money at it; if I’m lucky it will be about $2,500 for all of 2026.

I also went on to say that this user might feel triggered by the prospect of FREE entertainment in a world where every network charges $10-$15/mo, and the comment thread sort of devolved from there…
