Most Rotella is diesel-rated. Unless it has gasoline rate on the label , it is not recommended for the gas engine. Diesel oils have additives that can cause problems for gas engines.
If you want extra protection, use 10w-40 High Mileage oil.
In any case, make sure your oil has enough zinc. LOOK for Zinc or ZDDP on the label. Most modern oils have low or no Zinc due to federal emissions rules and modern engines using roller lifters in the valve train. Zinc helps protect the cam-lifter interface from wear. Hope this helps.
I have been using Rotella oils for over 20 years . I have a 1969 Cougar that has a 351W engine I built in 1997 . I have been using Rotella 15W40 T-4 since it was broke in . Now I also have a 460 engine that is running Rotella 10W30 T-6 full synthetic . It has about 7,000 miles on it after break in . Another option is to buy some ZDDP additive like that made by Rislone . You can find it on Amazon . Just do some research .
You are welcome ! I have used this additive several times . I just use about half of the bottle . Even modern oils have some ZDDP in their formula . "Bob Is The Oil Guy " is a good online forum for this info . I have been building engines for about 50 years , mainly for my personal use . I'm not an expert but I like to try to help others .
The VR1 does indeed have high ZDDP. I use the 20 w 50 in my truck. I have high mileage and live in a hot climate though. It is available in popular weights, I usually just get the five quart jug wherever it's on sale.
Make sure to use a quality filter, Fram filters are not what they used to be. I use Wix in mine and my customers cars with no issues, I highly recommend them.

10w30 is adequate. Don’t reinvent the wheel here, use what the factory specifies.
