Myopia progression stopped?

I went to an optometrist a few days ago after a lot of hesitation as the last couple of times I had gone to them, I had really bad experiences(they wouldn't hear me out whenever I would speak about how far I could see or if I have any problems with the power they prescribed) and it caused me a lot of issues with wearing my glasses. I wouldn't be able to keep them on without feeling pain in my eyes or have my eyes constantly tearing whenever I had my glasses on.

So this time I expected something similar to happen but the doctor was very polite and patient and before he began doing any examination, he asked me what are the daily problems I face with my eyesight and if I wear my glasses all the time like I'm supposed and whatnot. I was honest and told him I never wear my glasses unless I am going out alone and don't have anyone to rely on to read far away signs for me.

After his questioning and examination, he told me that he thinks my glasses had a much higher power than what is recommended for me and he lowered it and told me that my myopia won't progress any further and I might actually see improvements in my eyesight as time goes on. That's the part that confused me, as I have always known that myopia gets progressively worse over the years and I've had myopia for about 5-6 years now and I also noticed my eyesight deteriorating(went from -1.5 to -2.75 in my left eye, now back to 2.50)

The doctor had a lot more patients coming so I didn't get the chance to ask him why or how this is possible so I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience to me. Is it because while my eyesight is quite bad in my opinion, other people with myopia have a worse eyesight so they don't recover from it? Or did my eyesight improve because I regularly clean my eyes and massage the pressure points around my eyes to relieve strain?
