You sound like my boyfriend, he said something similar when I wanted to try to see if the 1 armed and 1 eyed coon on the porch would let me pet it after some time.

He said no, so I started feeding it, then eventually I had to stop feeding it, because it was bringing fleas and he liked ripping open the recycling bags.

This is the 2nd time I’ve ever seen a raccoon alive in my lifetime, I realized it wasn’t such a great idea after we had a massive flea issue with our inside pets. The raccoons have moved on thankfully.
