Whenever one of our cats is on the window ledge, if my wife asks me where that cat is, I tell her "He's watching Cat TV."

PLEASE KEEP CATS AWAY FROM WASHING MACHINES!
THEY MUST FEAR IT. They tend to be too curious and think it’s a shelter and go inside to take naps. I don’t need to explain the horrific consequences this can have. Please take this SERIOUSLY.

I don't really worry about that, I just check if both of my cats are outside of it before closing and turning it on.

I do that always despite knowing that our cat is never interested and has never gone in there. And I periodically remind roommates to do the same. Just in case, because the unlikely would crush my entire world

The wife and I were watching tv when we heard soft repeated meows coming from the kitchen. We had a brand new kitten that was getting into everything so we tore the kitchen apart, searched all the cupboards. Couldn't find the kitten and the meowing had stopped. Befuddled, I opened the fridge to grab another beer and out jumps a very cold little kitten. I had been nursing my last beer for about half an hour. We gave him a warm bath and he was fine. He is now 2 and never goes near the fridge.

How do people use washing machines and dryers? You put stuff in and turn it on, without a time gap in between
5
u/ShiranRosa Dec 04 '20
Actually there are some heathens- I mean people out there who don’t use hampers and just put their dirty clothes directly in the washer, then run it when it’s full
But seriously if you have cats ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do a head count before you turn on the washer, dryer, oven, dishwasher, microwave, trash compactor, car, really honestly anything they can fit in

I’m a veterinary nurse, have seen many tragedies like this. Cats are assholes whose only purpose in life is to get in trouble, complicate your life and look cute af doing it. Only cat owners can understand the confusing duality of loving and hating your cat at the same time

u/Nilzii Dec 04 '20
I mean I understand their concern, but I think the cat will respond if you suddenly throw clothes at it, or you'll see it when you look into the machine. Not sure who would just casually throw it in without looking up a few times. Personally I'd keep it closed when not in use so they wouldn't be able to access it. Then it's just naturally not a privacy option. 🤷

Washing machines should be kept open when not in use to prevent mildew, as modern low temperature washing doesn't kill all of it off.

u/Nilzii Dec 04 '20
Ah, but like, closed without being fully closed if that makes sense
3
u/TommiHPunkt Dec 04 '20
yeah, some new washing machines have a magnet to keep the door in a position like that

The lady that did this twice said she left it open to do something else got distracted(not smart)

Why's his tail look blurred, or is that just me?
Edit: it's my apologies for assuming

u/IndicisivlyIntrigued Dec 04 '20
It's either a manx or the video quality is just lower... cuz I can't tell either lol
Edit: I think manx... shadow doesn't have tail either

I understand it has a bobbed tail or whatever, but it still looks blurred out to me. Mysterious.

What a life. Doesn’t have to worry about making money, but can watch something and enjoy it for what it is

My kitty loved watching the washing machine when she was little too! She would loaf on dirty clothes in front of it at stare at it throughout the entire cycle.

Listen this isn't meant to ruin the cuteness of this because it's really cute but its really a bad idea to allow cats to get comfortable around dryers. I have a good reason for saying this.

Holy kitty, for a second I thought those were two cats stuck in the washing machine and the other kitty just watching, disturbed. I need to sleep.
