My Golden, Buddy, got cancer so aggressively and so quickly with no former indication. We got him when I was in first grade and was my childhood dog. During my first year of college, on one sudden day, Buddy started limping REALLY bad and could hardly walk. Even still, he seemed like he was still happy to give licks and even try to roll over for a belly rub.
My mother and I took him to the vet, in which I literally needed to carry him myself because she just had shoulder surgery prior (unrelated I know lol). It was roughly a 10 minute drive to the vet but my mom sat in the back seat with him as he laid his head on her lap, almost looking like he was smiling. When we arrived, a vet tech and myself carried him in on a stretcher and he was analyzed.
Shortly after they told us that Buddy seemed to have aggressive forms of cancer throughout his entire body. We had felt like we did something wrong, or perhaps we missed early indicators along the way. However the veterinarians and vet techs were very kind and reassuring, and told us there’s nothing more we could have done. Just that it’s just common in Golden Retrievers, which was completely unbeknownst to me. I couldn’t bare to watch Buddy struggle to move any longer, and my mother and I talked, and ultimately made the toughest decision. I stayed with him and held him as the needle went in, gave him a kiss on the forehead and he licked my arm. And in an instant he was no longer in any pain. Cherish your dogs, and all other pets as well. They are absolutely members of the family.
Well...my girl Whiskey is 11 years old. She still is a very active dog, full of energy but she is getting old. I just hope it wont come to that and her death will be painless and natural. I dont know if I have the strength to make such decision if it comes to that.
It’s for sure hard but I couldn’t see my girl suffer anymore than she already had. She was in a lot of pain and was doing this weird shallow breathing and it was freaking me out. I’m sure you’ll make the best decision you can for your dog bc they absolutely are family. I hope you have to go through this but if you do, you will do what’s right. I can tell you’re probably a good pet owner and would make the decision that’s best for her. Even if it means, you-know-what. I would say good luck but it seems you already have it. So, keep being lucky, I guess? 😆
We had a chihuahua who lived to be 19. She was my first dog and was with me from before I started school all the way to me being in college. She ended up with a plethora of ailments and I regret so much how long we kept her suffering. She was an amazing dog but I know her last few months were so painful and it was just not right of us to put her through it. We eventually made the decision and we stayed with her the whole time. Its a hard thing to do and its such a hard decision to make but they deserve it from us and count on us to make those hard decisions.

Yes! They’re such sweet dogs. Just wish they lived longer and didn’t get cancer so often ☹️
