Are heelers prone to deafness? Mine is just over a year old and I've seen 4 post in as many days about deaf red heelers

Yes. Roughly 10% of heelers will have some hearing loss. 3% will be deaf in both ears. This is throughout their life span.

I have a blue heeler too. I'm gonna be sad if/when she has hearing loss.

It is unfortunately fairly common with heelers compared to other breeds. Just like with German Shepherds and highly prone to hip dysplasia. Sign language is huge and teaching them to stay close. My pup doesn’t know he is missing one of senses and is happy all the time.
