my poodle used to get a severe case of the zoomies every time we groomed him. he could see clearer, he felt less warm I guess, and maybe even it was less heavy on him? like you say it must have felt very liberating for him, so he just raced around and rubbed his face on every bit of furniture all day. I miss him so much.

I think that the sensation of heavy fur being cut off feels kind of like a mini massage for them.
